  • This is clearly NOT Geddy Lee. listen to the original rush - witchhunt

  • @nayjayjee and don't forget this track is ripped from the Rock Band game. Maybe it causes it.

  • @nayjayjee I don't think the pickupd can "record" other instruments like that. Many isolated tracks sound like that. Usually instruments are recorded alone, via overdubbing, maybe you hear a backing track Geddy were playing while recording?

  • I dunno, it kinda sounds like the Rick when he hits the higher notes near the end. Jazz basses usually aren't that "loud" on the higher notes.

  • This really shows how talented Geddy is.. just think, when preforming this song live, hes playing this bass as well as singing and obviously playing the keyboard with his feet! FUCK

  • Yea see a bass cant be complicated cause its the foundation of a song, thats the guitars job, only can be comlicated when isolated purposely in a track

  • Beautiful...

  • I can see why he picked the Fender Jazz for this song. It has a duller (not in a bad way) and more ominous tone. Geddy is the master of bass tone.

  • @Fenderjazz1987 He uses the rickenbacker on this song.

  • Agreed on the Jazz votes....

Fantastic playing and track, but the Fender just doesn't quite have the slap-in-the-face stinging personality that the Rick does, nor was it mixed here to sound Rick-ish.

The Jazz certainly does the job quite well on this song, though! There's enough background noise and sonic saturation with the keyboards, reverbs, and punchy drums to cover for the Jazz's duller (but boomier) tone.

  • This is the jazz bass, and from the sound it sounds like the Neck Pickup is dominant because it has a very P bass like tone.

  • A-W-E---S-O-M-E....

  • A little too bassy

  • @GUARDIANtrooper You mean too muddy?

  • You should listen to the song on the album and compare to this. The notes and counts are different!

  • It sounds out of time because you can hear the reverb of the other tracks which is delayed compared to the dry sound of the bass.

  • I'm intimately familliar with this recording and YOU are wrong. The illusion of being out of time is because you're hearing the reverb from other instruments which naturally trails behind the source. Also remember that this was recorded by a real musician on 2" tape. Geddy didn't have an engineer chop and nudge every note into time for him on a computer like new bands do.

  • i kno he uses the rick on red barchetta

  • The question isn't whether it's Geddy or not, it clearly is. The question is is the the Ric or the Fender?

  • its the fender dude this was on moving pictures that album was recorded 100% jazz bass.

  • Yes this track uses the jazz bass, but he used the Rick on every track but this and Tom Sawyer. Do your research, he says so in interviews.

  • umm no dude sorry im 99.9 percent sure he uses the jazz bass on every track of moving pictures. he says so in interviews

  • @MattBodossian

    no he doesnt xP

  • Uhmm yes he does ill prove it to you.

  • the rick is used on Red Barchetta, Camera Eye, and, so he says, limelight but limelight definately has the vibe of the Jazz. Maybe he is going senile and doesnt remember. nevertheless, this Tom Sawyer, Vital Signs, and YYZ (possibly Limelight) are all the jazz. If you cant tell you obviously dont own or have ever played either of these instruments

  • @burningxdimx

    sounds like the fender xP

  • Oh well if Rockband says it is, it must be!

  • This is 100% Geddy playing bass from the original recording...

Also, as a mixing engineer...you have to really turn up the distortion on bass to get it to cut through the mix...it always sounds weird isolated but sits in the mix perfectly this way (for Geddy's tone)

  • HOW IS PALYING THESE BASS TRACK THINGS????

because sometimes i think that its not him

  • Ive listened to This album and this song more than any normal person could bear. This is in fact Geddy Lee playing this song as well as all the other tracks shown on Youtube. In my opinion, everyone here doesnt think it's Geddy because it's too basic of a line and has a more rounded, distorted sound to it compared to the other tracks. I think we all just expect more from him and If you read his interviews you will note that he writes these parts in a specific way for a reason.

  • @Crockettsonny84 i guess its to make the task of singing playing bass and synthesizer a bit easier? and simplicity is key i suppose.

  • @Crockettsonny84 yeah, cause he has to sing over it....

  • @moses132049 You must not own the Rockband game downloads...all of the moving pictures tracks are on it broken down like this.

  • im getting pissed how everything thinks it is or isnt geddy lee on these bass tracks...who gives a shit the toneis pretty damn close....

  • Sounds strange without the drums, guitar and synthisizers :-)

  • @SRTST51 Yes it is. It's from Rockband's isolation tracks.

  • The notes he plays on the E string don't seem to sustain as well as the notes he plays on the A and D strings

  • @burningxdimx anyone who owns a Fender bass, especially a vintage one, will tell you the A and D seem to project better than the E, that's been my experience, 1978 Fender P.

  • @radcam69

that's true for almost any bass.
