Is it worth getting into this? I've been looking for a mmo that isn't easy mode for quite some time, and from what I've heard Vanguard can deliver. However, I'm also being told that the low population makes this game very hard to get into, is this true?
Well many are now flocking back to Vanguard and is, in my view going to steadily increase overtime. However if you were to find yourself in a situation where it's a lonely road, then join large guilds such as Radient Heroes which have a limit of 200 members but kick members who havent been online in the past 30 days starting from the lowest levels. The game is suberb, many blame the bad start and think it will stay that way, well not if you and I kick some Hobgoblin ass :P
@shithappensguy no i don't think any games are worth getting into to be quite frank, when better games like mabinogi heroes are coming out just around the corner.
i think once nexon makes the jump to blockparty they'll be releasing dragon nest and mabinogi heroes to the US.
those two games alone are way more interesting to actually play, then the point and click boredom of all mmorpgs these days.
yeah, played it for 2 months, it was a great game with interesting new features, too bad SOE released it too early and didn't advertise.....now they are just letting it die :(
and age of conan has mostly humans in the game, drunken pirates, city guards, picts (like those african tribes), few crocodiles, panthers, tigers. in vanguard near a swamp I saw some strange amphibian on every corner and an even more weirder swamp monster. age of conan looks nicer.

just tried it, poor gameplay, its not simple, your character keeps changing clothes. I was looking for quests, then some npc gave me some strange mission about diplomacy and I didnt have some cards. to get these cards, you need money but I had no money. I searched the whole village for some kind of quest or anything and there was nothing.
age of conan is very simple and new subscribers get a free mammoth to ride. woohoo, cant wait! although vanguard has very very nice graphics.
there's a 14 day free trial I am doing to test it out and its DEAD. I can't compare it to warhammer because I wouldn't know but my friend and I see 1-2 people every 15 mins.
The player base is a little low but most of the players are taking upon themselves to help recruit people as Vanguard gets a bad rap when it shouldn't...
It's simply the best MMO out to date and it will take some serious competition to knock it down a peg or two.
Try it and im sure you will love it as much as we do :)

Vanguard: Saga of Heroes is awesome! Best MMO I have ever played, I've been playing since beta and am still playing.
It's a bit tough on your computer to run depending how good your computer is and ofcourse as like any MMO is has a few bugs but the Devs work really hard to fix things and most of all they listen to the players.
I can't give any other MMO as many points as I would give Vanguard...

This game is amazing! One of the best MMORPG's I have played. It is a shame it was released too early. I didn't play it at launch but I played it fairly recently and I loooved it.

O I forgot to mentioned that I liked was Diplomacy and gear for your proffesions not just axes and whatnot fullsets. The trees fell when you chopped them lol . I really wanted this game to be good:(
I played this a while back it still has some of the best still graphics i've ever seen I played it around the time it came out for about a month there was this Elven tree city that blew me away and the water effect is amazing also the world is huge( I actually liked that hated the psuedo teleporters!) but you needed a really beast computer to play it and Death Penalty(and Corpse Runs) + No ability to solo quests + a low Pop = Bad they had amazing ideas tho it was too far ahead of it's time
I play WoW, and I'm currently DLing Vanguard. I've seen my friend play this game, and he agrees that 99% of the huge bugs are gone. I still plan on playing WoW, it's a good MMO, but I want to try somkething different. They are both totally different games. Neither is better than the other. It comes down to preference. Arguing about which one is better on a youtube comment solves nothing, and isn't going to convince people to play your MMO of choice. Why post a comment when you could be playing?
Wow is easy mode now and Vanguard is a pretty shit game with lots of bugs. I wish i was playing warhammer at the moment but im not playing any mmos till about september. Also Star wars old republic game coming out seems pretty awsome. Maybe cause im just a big kotor fan.
Played all the free MMOs and they are all mediocre at best and the Asian ones like perfect world are just boring as hell to me. Best free MMO i have played so far is Runes Of Magic but its still below the level of pay to play games.
well Runes of Magic doesn't have much classes to play on, they don't have much in it at all its all easy basic, its like wow and Guild wars combine but only fewer classes I played it and its not that entertaining at all
Hi, I just got this game recently and I'm trying to pick a class. I love tanking and I'm trying to decide between a warrior and a paladin. I like RPing as a Paladin but I want to know wether the warrior is a better tank than a paladin. If anyone could tell me I'd appreciate it!
hope this helps. A warrior is going to be better for Raid tanking by far and has some better group buffs going on. However a paladin can keep themselves alive, hold some serious aggro, and are very good tanks. IIRC A warrior will be much better for AE/AOE aggro than a Paladin will be; and a DK will be better than both.

Yes you should. I started EQ1 right before Velious, and IMO: this is what EQ2 was trying to be, and what EQ2 should have been. Not all the instanced bullshit like EQ2 turned out to be.
The classes are extremely balanced, each is VERY unique and fun to play, and holy god.... the cotent is so in-depth. You could literally spend hours in a dungeon just trying to discover the layout, check out the detail, find a good run.
It got released way too early, and that's all. It's a great game.

This game has come along way. New player models and Isle of Dawn (trial island) will be out soon. Only MMO out that you cant powerlevel to max level in a week or so.

Every review I've seen for Vanguard talks about the launch fiasco and doesn't focus on gameplay. This review was very helpful. Host is rather funny, despite having a face for radio :) j/k
Meh, it's not a bad game, but out of the MMOs I've played so far it's the most boring one.
The main problem with Vanguard is that it is not original, which you begin to notice rather quickly. It seems that it can't choose whether it wants to be WoW or Everquest or Dark Age of Camelot.
Overall, a medicore MMORPG. It could have been an amazing game, if it was released somewhere in 2006, but now with AoC out and WAR at the doorstep, it remains as tragic reminder of what bad management can do.
I played this game in beta and i tell you i was never more pleased with a game at the time(bout 3 weeks til launch is when i hit the pleasure zone). Thne they started fiddling. Leveling became faster. . .which isn't *bad* per se but it made it actually more boring.
When you can stand in front of a "dungeon" and kill the respawns to gain levels faster than killing what is inside it, that is bad.
In beta you had a healer class that could outdps any dps class and still heal on even ground with the other healers. . .at the same time.
You had 3 tank classes that only one of them was necessary (SK was the most broken class next to monks). Rangers were pretty pimp dps. . .until they hit level ten and got so gear dependent you had to waste ten times the money of anyone else
I used to play this game, think it was about a year ago. There were alot of problems with this game. The lag was incredible. Its a shame cuz i kinda liked the game. If this game has gotten better from the last time ive played then i wouldnt mind dling it again.
It has gotten so much better since launch. Its AMAZING. You know that MMO You've wanted to always play yet it hasn't ever been released? Consider it released. There are some bugs that need to be fixed, but they are updating character models and a free trial in the summer. Definitely worth it.
They have fixed a lot of issues. I still get lag issues in main crafting towns where theres a lot of people so theres a lot of drawing to be done but usually I turn my toon about 4 times in a circle and /flushall and that seems to fix it. My husbands computer is way better than mine and he doesn't get that hitching/lag anymore. U don't get booted off game every 20 minutes anymore lol it's a great game :) way better than WoW..BUT u do need a better graphics card for VG than u do for WoW
i totally agree..VG is sooo diffrent then when it first launched...they fixed alot of the main bugs..its still got some work that needs to be done..but its pretty solid.

Im lvl 70, im full vengeful,and I can tell ya that it is hard to get that, its not like you can say its easy, Well, PVP is hard, a lot harder than PVE, pve is just for people that have no life, and a lot of time, but thats common knowledge.

ive played eq2.. 2moons... LOTRO.. and tons more and nothing amounts to the fun on eqoa.. just the unique set up you have and the endless world. I enjoy that every person is completely unique.
if i remember correctly the only reason people didn't switch to vanguard is cause the graphics requirements was too high for them... WoW cartoon like appearance make the game flow easly... now if they really did delete all the glitches and you finally updated your graphics card and ram.. simply looking at the games sky would make you drool... actual clouds that look better than the ones we get in real life.(darn polution) many seem to compare Wow with vanguard but with better graphics.. up to u
Unfortunately, the game is almost completely centered around group combat/questing. Which coming from a history of playing EQ and EQ2 does not bother me except that the servers are so barren you cant get a group. I hope that this game can recover from its crappy start and live up to its potential.
I think that the only way V:SOH will be able to recover from its poor launch is if S.O.E starts spamming all major game sites with free trials like CCP did with EVE.
I'm downloading Vanguard in this moment and i can say that only wandering ten minutes through the official forums you can taste a smarter community, compared to the WoW retarded community as you can see in the posts below also.

Thats a lie. It sucked on and off till about May then got awesome. ATM I only have a level 46 DK but it's ten times better than wow. Except for the asses that don't know how to play. Alot of people can't understand how agro works. It's finally gotten to where you can solo descently. It can be tough with certain classes, but the entire game takes using your brain quiet abit and comming up with new strategies.
i played vanguard from beta 5 to about 2 months after release. i leveled up a 50 warrior, somehow. there was a total lack of content past level 30 at launch, and when i hit 40 i had to wait at least a week before anything worth killing was around. the game ran at around 10 fps on a good day, badly coded npcs, invisible things, falling through world, wrongly marked npcs, long lags when crossing server boundaries. necros were better than everybody. it was a paid beta, so i quit.
Actually it is NOT yet dead...it is quite alive and gaining speed. I suggest before trowing the game away, we wait a bit more. Everquest 2 was labeled dead and currently servers are running full load (WoW style so to say). Not saying much, but game is 100 times better then at launch. I still can't believe how better it is...
He's not lying, as of the patch on March 12th 2008 the game has finally reached what I would consider a polished release level.
Bash SOE all you want, but in this case they have saved what could have been another wasted effort. Sigil was BROKE, they HAD to release. My wish now is for player base to CONTINUE to grow so more devs are allocated for new content, which they are continually rolling out. More world raids and entire raid areas added... APW anyone?
Speaking of which, I probably should have sold my account while it was still early release. Could have made some good money considering I had a souped up lvl 39 rogue through monopolizing the auction system.
Vanguard fucking sucks. I quit it because of all the major bugs it had. They probably still haven't fixed them. I was planning on playing Vanguard again after they fixed the bugs, but come to find out Sony hijacked the game from Brad. Brad is the guy that came up with the idea of Vanguard, which he is also the original person who came up with the original EverQuest.
Fuck Sony. Every single game idea they hijack, they end up shafting the individual that came up with the idea and ruin the game.
You know, the developers stated that it'd be another six months before everything was properly worked out. I'd gone through most of the beta testing for it and really, in comparison to WoW and guild wars, it was amazing.... pity it's almost dead these days, such great potential buggered due to release dates. I don't think that sony has learned it's lesson, when the developers say SIX MORE MONTHS they mean it.
all the fanboy stuff aside, SOE did give me a free month of EQ2 due to the amount of bugs in this game. I got a little card in the mail that said something like "...do to user feedback for Vanguard.. Please enjoy a free month so we can respond to requests" I do play EQ and EQ2 so I picked this up. Due to all the bugs and issues I did not make it through the first month.
Not having the chance to test the game (trial) is a really big minus at least for me....i wouldn't start a game (buying game +game card costs so much)without being sure that i like it.
This game has ironed out 99% of the bugs and is great! A lot of people left because of that, but Sony is reactivating all accounts from the past from the 18th to the 3rd of January for people to test it out again since there has been so much improvement.
i like furries (YES I AM SORRY!!!) but this guy is absolutely right...no real animal anatomy....just a sad person in a custom...NO ONE LIKES THAT! but Vanguard still is doing great with the extra polishing over the last few months.
Sorry to say but WoW came out after everquest. Seeing how the main person that designed Vanguard was the leader designed of everquest so yes he is going to bring in a common UI. Also before Wow was even out a lot of people were designing there own UIs. What it comes down to is what UI most people formilar with or people liked over the years of MMOs. Even when WoW came out I still stayed played everquest I for about 2 years and then switch over to Lineage 2.
Vanguard is a mess of a game, the graphics are messy, the world is static, the gameplay is simply not fun, the quests are tedious and the grind is worse then wow could ever be.
Whats funny is most people tryed vanguard - and most hated it.
Age of conan and Warhammer online will be the contenders - only of which Age of conan will do anything new.
lol.... if you're dissing wow look at the interface of this game, its interface/health bars/casting bars are an exact copy of wow plus this game skips, and the animations aren't nearly as good as in WoW at least they tested their animations, oh and by my watch, people are still playing WoW

it's mostly the little kids who can't afford the $15/mo that say WoW sucks. The day will come when WoW is no longer king of the hill, but that day has not come yet... the vast number of WoW subscribers is proof of that. WoW's future success depends on Blizzard putting out good expansions. If they can do that, WoW's got a couple more years on top still.

Yes I still play and i know the Guild Pain very well, I actually had a Bear Shaman in pain for a short time but my main was in Damage.
Im in a casual guild now and having a ton of fun, im on the Xeth server if you end up comming back let me know ;)
The level cap has been raised to lvl 55 and a few more dungeons have been released including PotA (Pantheon pt 1)

O I forgot to mentioned that I liked was Diplomacy and gear for your proffesions not just axes and whatnot fullsets. The trees fell when you chopped them lol . I really wanted this game to be good:(

I played this a while back it still has some of the best still graphics i've ever seen I played it around the time it came out for about a month there was this Elven tree city that blew me away and the water effect is amazing also the world is huge( I actually liked that hated the psuedo teleporters!) but you needed a really beast computer to play it and Death Penalty(and Corpse Runs) + No ability to solo quests + a low Pop = Bad they had amazing ideas tho it was too far ahead of it's time

I play WoW, and I'm currently DLing Vanguard. I've seen my friend play this game, and he agrees that 99% of the huge bugs are gone. I still plan on playing WoW, it's a good MMO, but I want to try somkething different. They are both totally different games. Neither is better than the other. It comes down to preference. Arguing about which one is better on a youtube comment solves nothing, and isn't going to convince people to play your MMO of choice. Why post a comment when you could be playing?

Hi, I just got this game recently and I'm trying to pick a class. I love tanking and I'm trying to decide between a warrior and a paladin. I like RPing as a Paladin but I want to know wether the warrior is a better tank than a paladin. If anyone could tell me I'd appreciate it!

hope this helps. A warrior is going to be better for Raid tanking by far and has some better group buffs going on. However a paladin can keep themselves alive, hold some serious aggro, and are very good tanks. IIRC A warrior will be much better for AE/AOE aggro than a Paladin will be; and a DK will be better than both.

Yes you should. I started EQ1 right before Velious, and IMO: this is what EQ2 was trying to be, and what EQ2 should have been. Not all the instanced bullshit like EQ2 turned out to be.
The classes are extremely balanced, each is VERY unique and fun to play, and holy god.... the cotent is so in-depth. You could literally spend hours in a dungeon just trying to discover the layout, check out the detail, find a good run.
It got released way too early, and that's all. It's a great game.

From what I heard, Vanguard only has 40,000 or less subscribers. That's extremely low for any MMO.

The trial is actually out now and downloadable, even though there's no actual info about it on any of their homepages (Sony, Sigil etc), strangely I had to find out by reading about it in a forum.
Anyhow, all you have to do is create a free station account or log in with an old/existing one and you can download and play the 14-day free trial of Vanguard now!
I just did and was blown away, saw an NPC cut down a tree, now that's an interactive world, cool!

I really liked this when I played it, It was really magical. but like all mmorpgs you have to play for like 10 hours to levelup, so I quit.

Meh, it's not a bad game, but out of the MMOs I've played so far it's the most boring one.
The main problem with Vanguard is that it is not original, which you begin to notice rather quickly. It seems that it can't choose whether it wants to be WoW or Everquest or Dark Age of Camelot.
Overall, a medicore MMORPG. It could have been an amazing game, if it was released somewhere in 2006, but now with AoC out and WAR at the doorstep, it remains as tragic reminder of what bad management can do.

I played this game in beta and i tell you i was never more pleased with a game at the time(bout 3 weeks til launch is when i hit the pleasure zone). Thne they started fiddling. Leveling became faster. . .which isn't *bad* per se but it made it actually more boring.
When you can stand in front of a "dungeon" and kill the respawns to gain levels faster than killing what is inside it, that is bad.
Then they started changing classes.

In beta you had a healer class that could outdps any dps class and still heal on even ground with the other healers. . .at the same time.
You had 3 tank classes that only one of them was necessary (SK was the most broken class next to monks). Rangers were pretty pimp dps. . .until they hit level ten and got so gear dependent you had to waste ten times the money of anyone else

It has gotten so much better since launch. Its AMAZING. You know that MMO You've wanted to always play yet it hasn't ever been released? Consider it released. There are some bugs that need to be fixed, but they are updating character models and a free trial in the summer. Definitely worth it.

They have fixed a lot of issues. I still get lag issues in main crafting towns where theres a lot of people so theres a lot of drawing to be done but usually I turn my toon about 4 times in a circle and /flushall and that seems to fix it. My husbands computer is way better than mine and he doesn't get that hitching/lag anymore. U don't get booted off game every 20 minutes anymore lol it's a great game :) way better than WoW..BUT u do need a better graphics card for VG than u do for WoW

Im lvl 70, im full vengeful,and I can tell ya that it is hard to get that, its not like you can say its easy, Well, PVP is hard, a lot harder than PVE, pve is just for people that have no life, and a lot of time, but thats common knowledge.

if i remember correctly the only reason people didn't switch to vanguard is cause the graphics requirements was too high for them... WoW cartoon like appearance make the game flow easly... now if they really did delete all the glitches and you finally updated your graphics card and ram.. simply looking at the games sky would make you drool... actual clouds that look better than the ones we get in real life.(darn polution) many seem to compare Wow with vanguard but with better graphics.. up to u

Unfortunately, the game is almost completely centered around group combat/questing. Which coming from a history of playing EQ and EQ2 does not bother me except that the servers are so barren you cant get a group. I hope that this game can recover from its crappy start and live up to its potential.

Thats a lie. It sucked on and off till about May then got awesome. ATM I only have a level 46 DK but it's ten times better than wow. Except for the asses that don't know how to play. Alot of people can't understand how agro works. It's finally gotten to where you can solo descently. It can be tough with certain classes, but the entire game takes using your brain quiet abit and comming up with new strategies.

i played vanguard from beta 5 to about 2 months after release. i leveled up a 50 warrior, somehow. there was a total lack of content past level 30 at launch, and when i hit 40 i had to wait at least a week before anything worth killing was around. the game ran at around 10 fps on a good day, badly coded npcs, invisible things, falling through world, wrongly marked npcs, long lags when crossing server boundaries. necros were better than everybody. it was a paid beta, so i quit.

Actually it is NOT yet dead...it is quite alive and gaining speed. I suggest before trowing the game away, we wait a bit more. Everquest 2 was labeled dead and currently servers are running full load (WoW style so to say). Not saying much, but game is 100 times better then at launch. I still can't believe how better it is...

He's not lying, as of the patch on March 12th 2008 the game has finally reached what I would consider a polished release level.
Bash SOE all you want, but in this case they have saved what could have been another wasted effort. Sigil was BROKE, they HAD to release. My wish now is for player base to CONTINUE to grow so more devs are allocated for new content, which they are continually rolling out. More world raids and entire raid areas added... APW anyone?

Vanguard fucking sucks. I quit it because of all the major bugs it had. They probably still haven't fixed them. I was planning on playing Vanguard again after they fixed the bugs, but come to find out Sony hijacked the game from Brad. Brad is the guy that came up with the idea of Vanguard, which he is also the original person who came up with the original EverQuest.
Fuck Sony. Every single game idea they hijack, they end up shafting the individual that came up with the idea and ruin the game.

You know, the developers stated that it'd be another six months before everything was properly worked out. I'd gone through most of the beta testing for it and really, in comparison to WoW and guild wars, it was amazing.... pity it's almost dead these days, such great potential buggered due to release dates. I don't think that sony has learned it's lesson, when the developers say SIX MORE MONTHS they mean it.

Please enjoy a free month so we can respond to requests" I do play EQ and EQ2 so I picked this up. Due to all the bugs and issues I did not make it through the first month.

Sorry to say but WoW came out after everquest. Seeing how the main person that designed Vanguard was the leader designed of everquest so yes he is going to bring in a common UI. Also before Wow was even out a lot of people were designing there own UIs. What it comes down to is what UI most people formilar with or people liked over the years of MMOs. Even when WoW came out I still stayed played everquest I for about 2 years and then switch over to Lineage 2.

Whats funny is most people tryed vanguard - and most hated it.

i say give it time. If people can enjoy something like runescape they can certainly enjoy this.Besides WoW's not exactly bug-free.

why are there still so man who try to deny that WoW is the best MMO out there? i played WoW for a while, i dont rly enjoy it simply becuase its not my kind of game but i would still call it a good game, and untill age of conan comes out, the best mmo that exists

it's mostly the little kids who can't afford the $15/mo that say WoW sucks. The day will come when WoW is no longer king of the hill, but that day has not come yet... the vast number of WoW subscribers is proof of that. WoW's future success depends on Blizzard putting out good expansions. If they can do that, WoW's got a couple more years on top still.
