@blacksoilder10 yea, something crazy..that would be the perfect mix of them too.. yohan with the best start..tyson with a fast top end speed..usain with best curve and fastest slow part and asafa on straight to accell to finish
I understand that Bolt has the fastest curve on the team but why does that justify him running the third leg b/c he also has the fastest straight and doesn't he run the straight faster than the curve? Maybe they don't want him to run last b/c they know he'll start celebrating b4 the race is over which could jeopardize the record.
@vhickerson Mainly because of the fact that he's a great curver runner and Powell doesn't run curves normally. So it makes more sense to keep Bolt on the curver and Powell on anchor, tho I've seen Bolt run anchor legs like he did at the Penn Relays last year. If anything, they could put Bolt on the 2nd leg which is the longest leg. They could shave a few ticks off. I'm thinkin the perfect Jamaican team would be Mullings-Blake-Bolt-Powell. That team woudl break the WR.
@vhickerson ..no, my friend. It's called teamwork. Yes, Bolt is the fastest on the team, but he's also the best curve runner. It's all about dominating each leg of the race. Plus he's not that much faster than Asafa anyway so the team gains more with him on the curve than it would with him on the anchor.
I always thought Don Quarrie was the best 4X100 3 legger Jamaica ever had, now it's Bolt. Asafa Powell will probably be one of the best anchor runners the men 4X100 will see for a while.
Funny thing I noticed watching it again, Frater is really the one who won the race for JAM. Mullings got out well, but Frater really extended it. Bolt's leg was actually quite average for his standards. Of course by the time Powell got it and he's 2 lengths up, no way Richard Thompson is catching him.
Powell won this for jamaica, sure Bolt Fraser and Mullings did well.. but powell at the end was unbelievable. trinidad were close until he got the baton
@Courseey10 not really since Bolt still had a lead on Trinidad's third runner despite being on the outside lane. but u are right powell had one hell of a leg
@Courseey10 The race was pretty much over by the time Powell got it. He is a great anchor runner tho. I still remember the 2007 worlds when he brought Jamaica from 5th to 2nd on his leg alone.

Yeah.. Jamaica had terrible hand-offs.. just like in Beijing. imagine if they actually spread the exchanges out and hit the sticks the way they have the potential to.. it would be sub-37 for sure.. might even be this year
I'm gonna tell you something about Powell. If he is in front in a relay.......ain't nobody gonna pass him. Y do u think he always anchors? Not only is he fast but he's comfortable there. I have a feeling he might even chase down somebody if it ever comes to it. He may sometimes falter in the flat 100 but in the relay he's becoming an unstoppable force.
bolt usually gets a lead(or a little against top 5 runners) and then powell's start is the best ever +he's the third fastest in the world so its usually jamacia.
I'm gonna tell you something about Powell. If he is in front in a relay.......ain't nobody gonna pass him. Y do u think he always anchors? Not only is he fast but he's comfortable there. wow GBR was first and Trinidad and Tobago were second into the 2nd change. Bolt was behind right up until the end of his leg. Bolt and Powell's change killed them..
@BRUNO2089 agree but would have powell, carter, blake, bolt as the order. IMO bolt on the bend is a waste of top speed..i know hes a good bend runner, but alot has got to do with what lane they have. that lineup should smash 37 seconds.
@15Jimmyboy The 400m WR is 43.18 by Michael Johnson, Bolt's 400m PB is 45.28 so explain how the hell Bolt would possibly run a faster time if he ran it himself. Stupid comment..
@Tunknatar Bolt ran on 3rd because he's the fastest curve runner in history. No one can run a curve like Bolt, if he anchored the time wouldn't have been as fast.
@phastman1994 totally disagree with you. There is no event that enables anyone to judge who runs the fastest curve as no one goes flat out around the bend. that still doesnt matter anyway as the curve should be run by an athlete that has the least amount of time reduced due to running the bend, versus their straight 100m. Additionally the 2nd change is usually one of the shorter runs..the back and front straights being the longest. But we always disagree so i expect youll disagree with me again
@rcaddict72 what do you mean? The 200m enables us to judge who runs the fastest curve going by their splits, Bolt's the only man to have gone sub 10 around the bend in 200m which he did in his 19.30 (9.98) and 19.19 (9.92) and that's why he ran on 3rd, no one else can run a bend like Bolt. Ur right about 2nd and anchor being the longest legs but Bolt's curve is so much faster than everyone else's on team Jamaica that they'd lose time if anyone else ran on 3rd.
@phastman1994 how are the 2nd and 4th legs the longest?.. aren't the acceleration zones are marked from 90 to 110, 190 to 210 and 290 to 310?.. so for the 2nd and 4th legs to be the longest, the coaches and athlete have to set their marks in a way to deliberately ensure those legs are longest.. but nothing about the track makes those legs the longest
@csportmaria I honestly don't know why the 2nd and anchor are suppose to be the longest legs but thats what I've always heard, either way it could change depending on where in the exchange zone u recieve the baton. My main point was Bolt on 3rd was the right choice in Beijing and Berlin but now with Yohan who's a decent curve runner Bolt was able to run anchor in Daegu
@Bajinjo think about Nesta Carter PB 9,86 ; Yohan Blake PB 9,89 ; Usain Bolt PB 9,58 ; Asafa Powell PB 9,72 and backup men Michael Frater PB 9,97 or Dexter Lee PB 10,16 or Steve Mullings PB 10,01
@ImperialBlueFire beacause bolt is the best at running the bend. And Asaapowell is the greatest anchor in the world. Look up Osaka 2007 Powell got Jamaica from 5th to silver.
i hope this year the 4x1 with the usa n it will b better i heard a rumor that justin gatlin is tryin to come back this year and if he does yeah i think the usa will lower the record in the 4x1
