  • People watching this should look up, "guthrie govan fretless guitar" I think that shows, guitarists can do stuff without frets too, if we really wanted too.

  • I think the guitar can go a lot further than the violin. I think it's easier to play the guitar at first, because you start off learning simple chords working on rythem and easier stuff, while with violin, your just starting to learn about music, and they have you learning how to read music and trying to find the right pitch without frets or anything. That's a tough start for violin. But with guitar, you start off easy, but to become a true master of the guitar is a different story.

  • Predivno!!

  • It's exactly the same, what's the point. Always great to hear Becker play though.

  • One stayed in his room and practiced for hours because he wanted to, the other did it because she was locked in there by over bearing parents.

  • Pfft even i can play that piece on the guitar with my teeth, just took an arrow to my knee

  • becker wins by fatalitiy besides it must be easier to play this on violin because on a guitar you have to stretch further along the fingerboard and you have to pick each string and those chinese are getting worse forcing a little kid to play classical music damm commies

  • The violinist had the biggest advantage of all, being ASIAN and Becker destroyed her

  • jason becker

  • Jason Becker wins! Flawless Victory

  • I think to find the measure of such a caprice, you'd need Ruggiero Ricci or Scholmo Mintz's recordings, for one thing, and for another, it's certainly harder for a violinist.

  • VIOLIN, Obviously

  • jason becker´s video is acelered? or is my imagination

  • @gRocker91 yup it is. =)

  • Violin is harder because it requires absolute accuracy and skill to handle the bow. But since the electric guitar is more accessible and is more awesome, I prefer to play the guitar over the violin.

  • I believe the violin is harder. I play both guitar and violin, both of which need time to get good, but violin has to get intonation right. It doesn't have buttons, or in this case frets to play the right note for you. So you can place your finger a little more sloppy on guitar.

  • The girl at the end is like "ok, time to sleep.." lol

  • Jason Becker plays kinda sloppily: Rock legend

Little girl plays it perfectly on violin: Little girl

Gosh the standards for rock and classical music are so different...

  • playing it to fast ruins it

  • @Rtaff96 uh it was written to be played fast, man... but this mix of the two is crap since they weren't actually working together on it...

  • @Rtaff96 watch?v=HLgBejh5TLA watch that and tell me it's slow....

  • @since1876 I know how the original sounds and, its fast as hell. and yes the two arent working together, but if you play it too fast like here, it will lose it's power

  • I can play this using my ball hair

  • Is it me or does that little girl rock it, or what?

  • definitely harder on the violitar

  • HARDCORE ASIAN GIRL FOR THE WIN!

  • O-O'' there both great

  • "OH YES! I CAN PLAY THAT YES SURE SURE SURE BLABLABLABLBA" HAHA WHO CARES? HAHAHAHAHA

  • Hahahahah who reads all of this retards comments? HAHAHA

  • All these arguments, and I bet none of you can play those pieces on the triangle...

  • @somedoodudontno i play em on the cowbell

  • Jason Becker is God!!

  • Jason Becker did an incredible job transcribing this piece on to guitar. I can play a short piece of it, but quickly become unstuck. How he managed to do that is beyond me.

  • actually, violin is the hardest instrument in the world. bt i didnt mean that guitar is bad or not good.. i play violin guitar and piano too i enjoy playing violin , i knw how hard is to play a violin. Violin is considered as the King Of Instrument.... so dont compare instrument with another just enjoy them...

  • @Nibu111

I heard the piano is considered the King of Instruments, it was stated by many composers.

I don't think the violin is the hardest instrument either. It's probably the hardest one to get a clean sound from. But you don't have to deal with counterpoint and harmony half as you do on the piano. The piano takes a comprehension of the whole, which is why most Maestros are originally pianists.

Every instrument has it's particular and unique dificulties, there are no harder ones than others

  • I've played the electric guitar, the classical, and my main instrument is the piano. I don't mean just fooling around, I've studied them seriously.

I find that the guitar is an easier instrument, not because of the technique, but because of the repertoire ( in a general way ).

Classical music is just way harder than rock/metal, there's so much more to think about when it comes to interpretation, nuance and emotion...

  • @TheGentledawn Frankly, I wouldn't say all classical music is way harder than rock/metal. Some classical music are harder to play than metal and vice versa. Take Chris Impellitteri's 17th century chicken picking for an example it's so technical and harder to play than several Classical pieces I know.

  • @TheSyuFan

Ah, I know what you mean, sure there are very easy classical pieces too.

What I meant was, to be an accomplished classical musician takes more study than to be an accomplished rock musician, simply because it's not demanded of them as it is in the classical music, which has very high standards

  • @TheGentledawn Guitar is harder to play than piano.

  • @RangRing68

It's a matter of opinion really

  • @RangRing68 yeah right...try to play 2 different melodies, differents timing, rythm and so on...tht you can only do in a piano and is the hardest thing to do...

  • @sshakkara yeah right....try being able to play both classical piano and guitar successfully for over 30 yrs like i have and tell me which is harder to play. Try playing Chopin's Valse Op. 64, No.2 on piano for example and then on nylon strings. Its quite a bit more challenging on the guitar kiddo. Believe me. Can you play both instruments equally well? I doubt it. Walk, dont talk.

  • @RangRing68 I love when people have no idea of the others past or achivements, but just "doubt" things an go on with his arrogance and prejudice...if u are not liyin and u do have more than 30 years and still talk like this, i dont care if u are mozart himself, you just cant hold no truth ^^

    bye now!

  • @sshakkara Can you just answer the question please, without the blah blah blah? Can u play both instruments well enough to tell which is the hardest to play? Thanks.

  • @RangRing68 I do, and its piano, your argument about "Try playing Chopin's Valse Op. 64, No.2 on piano for example and then on nylon strings. Its quite a bit more challenging" well then try to play it in the flute! its impossible! so flute is the hardest instrument ever...I may not have 30 years experience, but piano its way harder, way complex and provides with the freedom that comes with complexity that no other instrument can match...

  • @sshakkara If you dont play the guitar, then how do you know if the piano is more complex than the guitar? Again, i play both and a stringed instrument requires quite a bit more work (bending, hammer ons, pull offs, vibrato, harmonics, plucking with Snap On Nails, curling your fingers into knots to achieve a chord on the fretboard, etc) that you cant do on the piano. Just because you use 10 fingers on the piano vs. 9 on the guitar, does not make the piano more complex.

  • @RangRing68 when i said "I do" i meant I can play both....and with piano you can do things you cant on a guitar...for example playin 10 different sounds at once, in guitar youre limited to 5, and if you try to do two different melodies at once you are limited to one hand, and only 5 strings...piano is the king of instrument for the freedom he gives...and if we talk about electric keyboards the possibilities are inifinte...

  • @sshakkara you dont play the guitar....i can just tell.

  • @RangRing68 oh sorry, i didnt knew you have psiquic powers..ok X man, I gave you my opinion , you dont like it? i dont care...but I have spoke no lie..so deal with it ^^

  • @sshakkara Yep..... you're a lie.

  • @RangRing68 so are you...you said you have more than 30 years, still you talk like a 14 year old boy...

  • @sshakkara tu eres una muchacha mentirosa.

  • @RangRing68 soy un hombre.....

  • @sshakkara dont think so....you're a broad.

  • VVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVViola

  • well you could start the comparison by saying the fingerings are totally different - and that violins are tuned in fifths and then that guitars are tuned in fourths..this is an incredible video - really shows that jason was a top notch guitarist comparable to virtuosos.... I dont think the video is to slam or compare instruments in favor of one or another- just to show that this kid could rip with world class.

  • are we serious comparing which instrument is better than the other here? this isn't about love for music anymore, this is comparing things because you're insecure about your manhood, come one people..

  • go jason go!!!!!!

  • I WILL RECK ON THEM . WITH MY TRIANGLE FROM HELL

  • I play both violin and classical guitar. So did Paganini. They're both excellent instruments. I'm a classical guitar major, so obviously I enjoy guitar more, but i enjoy the violin as well and play in my university's orchestra. They can both be incredibly expressive. One of the questions I hate most is, "Which instrument is harder and/or better?" It's incredibly difficult to compare such different instruments and playing techniques.

  • @XcRunner1031 Well said. I used to play violin and I now play guitar. To me learning the basics of guitar is easier than learning the basics of violin, but that doesn't make violin more difficult than the guitar. Anyway it's pointless to compare which instrument is more difficult to play.

  • In the end, all the instruments are hard! Who ever can play any of them has a lot of talent!

  • This is an impossible comparison. Without bringing age into this, both instruments can be extremely difficult to play at this level. A violin is fretless, and for me, being a guitar player, is a big speed bump for me, as there is absolutely no variance in finger position, and there is no marking to you where the note is. On the other hand, playing multple notes quickly and evenly requires a comparitively simple right hand technique, whereas a guitarist must (for the most part), attack each note.

  • I played violin and cello for a few years in my youth and found them both much easier to play than guitar, and also a lot less fun.

  • Comment removed

  • @cjribera Umm, I said I think it is easier. I don't play violin or cello anymore. What does your comment have to do with what I said? In m opinion, learning guitar was more difficult than violin/cello... In my case that was true. I found there were many more techniques to master, chording, etc. that were more difficult. Also, I found it way more fulfilling and fun. It's just an opinion. You can relax. You have no excuse.

  • @kingv911 If it was so easy for you, you could show on youtube how far you went.

If you went only into tiwnkle, would it be fair to compare such early stage with guitar advanced techniques?

Did you master up-bow staccato, double stop harmonics or left hand pizzicato on violin? ? did you find that easy?

  • @cjribera You seem to be a highly strung and defensive individual. Perhaps, as others have pointed out, the argument is pointless. Obviously, had I played violin/cello longer I would've learned more advanced techniques and become more aware of what the instrument could do. That being said, I found them less interesting than guitar which is why I switched, and initially I found guitar more difficult than I found violin and cello to be when I started on them. I personally found them less fun.

  • @cjribera Also, to answer your question. No I cannot show you on Youtube. Firstly, because I do not own either of those instruments and haven't played them in over ten years. Secondly, satisfying your unending quest to silence anyone who dares to question the superiority of anything but the violin does not interest me.

  • this is the proof of japanese are aliens xD

  • Fucking saxaphone, bitches

  • Sounds like angry bees on the prowl

  • @BaryMary you can't say just because of that they are equally complex...You can go to extremes to confirm it. Compare the French horn and the Tambourine...would you say they're equally difficult?

Guitar has it's issues, but getting a very simple sound on a violin is very hard, not close as hard on guitar. And violin never stop getting more complex at higher levels.

BTW, how fair is comparing a small child violinist to one of the best guitarist of all time?

  • Sorry but the little girl kicked his ass!

  • is mr, jason becker , the best guitar player , like paganini in the violin , the 2 musician are my favourites , ey people , search for , JASON BECKER - ( THE MOVIE ) AND THE JASON BIO ,is a sad history , sorry for the bad english

  • Ok................

  • Ohhhhhhh!

  • damn..so fucking fast..yet accurate..

  • for me its a tie

  • im a guitar player... and for me violin is the most expressive and difficult instrument ever... period!

  • @navaret86 Nah, every instrument has it's own difficulties, the fact you can´t play it doesn´t mean it's the most difficult...

  • to those guitarists saying guitar is harder to play than a violin, why don't you try playing a fret less guitar and close you eyes while playing. then tell us which is harder to play, the fret less or the fretted guitar? you'll get what we mean. hahaha

  • @jeffkid9999 hmm i know what you mean but its still different i play both and my friend has a fret less bass and its nothing like a violin just because its fretless its harder to find the notes on a 1 meter long neck rather than on a small violin neck because on the violin neck theres only a few positions. on the other hand try playing cello with eyes closed.

  • Comment removed

  • @LedKenji666 only few positions? no, guitars and violins defer when it comes to sizes. but the their strings has the same proportions. try to pluck an open string on a guitar. then try to stop the same guitar string at the middle or halfway between the nut and the bridge(12th fret), there you'll find the octave note for the open string. then do the same thing on the violin, you'll see. the octave note for the open string is also located halfway between the nut and the bridge.

  • @jeffkid9999 What i meant is that in a few hand positions you have acess to every notes on the violin neck. i get your thing about octaves if you take a look the size of frets is also an exponential function and for me who have a 24 fret guitar i have 2 octaves per string with the 24th fret being exactly in the middle of the 12th and the bridge but anyway. all to say. a fretless guitar would be harder to find the notes than a violin wich you have acess to all the notes in a few hands position

  • @jeffkid9999 in the sense that i just told you. but yea of course violin is harder to take in hand and start playing than guitar. but the thing is when you start to be good on a violin those things are not realy an obstacle anymore. to me there is no superior instrument but easier instruments to play like guitar is easier than violin only require their owner to have more skills to be called a virtuoso. people saying violin is the best instrument or shit like that for scientific reasons are dumb

  • @LedKenji666 so you mean by few positions is few number of notes played at the same time? on the guitar you play maximum of 6 notes at the same time, but on the violin, you could only play maximum on 2 notes at the same time. so a fret less guitar is harder to play than a violin, is that what you mean say? you got a point but i guess a fret less guitar is not intended in playing 6 noted chords. that could be the reason why there are only few guitarist who want to use a fret less guitar.

  • @jeffkid9999 na that not what i meant but true it would be a good point. its true that people dont realy use fretless guitars to do chords except if they have an open chord tuning and use a slide but w/e what i mean is that the lenght of the neck maxes it that you have alot of ARM positions so you have to remember stuff up the neck and down the neck. with the violin you have like a 3 hands long neck so everything is at finger reach most of the time.so in the end i would say that cello is hardest

  • @LedKenji666 okay, you got a point. actually, I am also a guitarist like you. I've been playing guitars for almost 6 six already. I started playing violins 2 years ago. By the time I started playing the violin, I found out that guitars and violins has similar concepts, but due to the fret less nature of the violin, I found it much harder to play than a guitar. After all I could say that violin is harder to play than a fretted guitar.

  • @LedKenji666 about the longer and the shorter neck argument, the instrument which has a shorter neck has also its disadvantage, especially in playing extremely high notes. on the violin, when you stopped the string and your finger accidentally slipped 3 millimeters away from the exact location of the note, the note you played may not be acceptable anymore(sharp or flat). but on a cello or on a fret less guitar, it may still be acceptable. I hope you got my point.

  • @jeffkid9999 yea thats a point too but i still think that Cello would be Harder than violin in the long run to do such things as an arrangement of this song up here.

  • @LedKenji666 can i add you as a friend on facebook? lol.

  • @LedKenji666 one of the first things you learn learning cello, is that its easier to play beginner pieces(at least coming from guitar owing to the similar scale length I guess), but beyond that It's an immensely difficult instrument. moving up to moderate cello pieces is like going from The Ramones to this on guitar. I abandoned cello and switched to violin; there's a much more even scale of difficulty. It has nothing to do with the instrument I think, but rather Its treatment by composers. =)

  • The violin should have a whammy bar, then it would be metal. lol

  • @4JayeP you don't need a whammy bar for a violin, the finger board is fret less, you could just slide your fingers towards and away from the bridge smoothly creating micro-tonal note shifting.

  • dammit!...whoever did the mixing is so cool....

  • I wonder how hard that girls parents had to hit her before she could learn that piece.

  • Clearly Jason Becker wins....

  • vid jason fake, he dont play it faster , look the original

  • 1:14 to 1:40 becker won

  • i think there are more moves on the guitar

  • @monkeysawu true but the same goes for the female violinist in this video I consider her a prodigy

  • guitar and violin are both fine, and sure maybe science can support the claim that violin is the very complex-- and i centuries of music provide enough evidence of it being the "king of instruments in classical music" (if u want to phrase it that way :P)...my only problem with this video is the comparison to Jason becker, hes like the god figure for guitarist and has risen to the point that no one should compare or criticize him. seems ridiculous but after what he has been through i say he wins

  • I play both violin and guitar and can play this song on both and I have to say that it sounds better and is much more difficult on the violin mostly because Paganini composed it for the solo violin not the guitar

  • if paganini had known electric guitar, he would prefer it than violin

  • Comment removed

  • Please, the violin is so versatile that it could be used in fast firecrackers like

    v=xXi5D366n7o or v=LJeCZQSpXvM

But the most important, you can make the violin sing...check VOCALISE

    or check these others....

  • CHARLIE DANIELS!!!!!!!!!

No, great job to the mistress who done this version.

    LONG LIVE JASON!!!!!!!!!!

  • I very much doubt that Jason would support the idea that one instrument like guitar or violin is inherently better or more complicated or more evolved than the other, seroiusly put some thought into it and study both instruments for a good long time..

  • She is asian, asian play the instruments like a robots. has not -.-

  • jason is better

  • Violin is hrder than guitar, i am guitarrist but...

  • becker wins, more notes more range with tremelo etc like the ending that was cut ;-) but bravo to the girl, truly outstanding

  • this lady is a machine..O_O

...and I personally think that would be better for jason to play without the distortion...

  • this was acutually pretty cool, someone should try covering this guitar and violin but them playing at same time together ha

  • @crazyboyxx xD love the analogy!

  • is the same girl jajajaja

  • @burrutan99 fuck you!!

  • @burrutan99 jajajaj NO, FUCK YOU ! !! JAJAJAJA

  • @burrutan99 LAME.

  • jajaja una niña toca mejor que ese we disque virtuoso. jason = fake video alterad

  • Comment removed

  • as for the debate of which is harder instrument , I think each is unique with its own pros and cons.

  • That is fun! I bow to that lady!

    Jason Becker

  • @Beckerooski

Wow the real Jason commented on this, Everyone thumb him up, his comment deserves to be seen! (Yes, it is actually him check b4 you start bitching).

    proof: htt(p) : // jasonbeckerguitar (com) / board /read. php?22,2764

@ Jason: I love you and your music, Can't wait till we can cure you!!

  • @TensaZangetsu814 I want to believe, but is this really a "proof"?

  • @AceVenturaQ911

If the link didn't work look up Jason's forums and ask him yourself. He isn't dead...

  • @Beckerooski Well it is MUCH more enjoyable watching you play this for sure! Amazing. :)

  • @Beckerooski i have realized that nobody has tried your version of paganini so about a week ago i started a project to perfect it.....it might take 6 months.....but recently you have become a big influence of mine in guitar...so when/if i finally get it....i will post a video and hopefully you will see it....i wish you the best!.

    Charles Myers

  • The only one who can say if the guitar is harder than the violin or viceversa is Chris Broderick xD

  • i think the guitar is the most easy and hard instrument....

  • Violin was keeping up for sure right up until the crazy sweeps at the end.

  • Thank you...

  • you understand NOTHING . CHEK THIS!

    youtube.com/watch?v=amfCqFUMBkY

  • @aaron1tatamovich this link isn't working for me!

  • 28 people died

  • violin is way harder, it takes like 5 years before you can even make it sound good and dont say im bias cuz im a guitar player

  • Well, many people think that the violin is the harder instrument, and many think the guitar is. We could argue all day and get nowhere. The truth is both take a great deal of practice, and hard work.; neither is easy. Perhaps it's not the instrument, but the musician that determines how difficult an instrument is.

How far are you willing to take it?

  • I'd say it's the most difficult on a Piano - with the pitch bends and all...

That's what they should invent now - a (non-electronic) keyboard instrument with pitch bending on every key.

  • @metallicka777 Do you play either instrument? I play violin and a little guitar on the side. The guitar is much easier. If you don't play one, you're opinion isn't valid.

  • @Henry92RLC @scottydscottd it was a joke but since you asked nicely ill go kill myself playing the better Instrument "guitar"

  • most epic battle ever

  • Ours is logical that the violin is more difficult.

  • id have to say guitar is harder because the notes are further away to play this piece and plus the fucking violin is so small and only has 4 strings and is played with a fucking stick lol

  • @MetalLicka777 kill yourself

  • this girl rock no guitar player on this plant can play this piece at this speed on the guitar!!!!!!! the part u see jason playing the video is speed up i saw his video already is not this fast!!!

  • playing that on the violin is harder . even not comparable with the guitar

  • fast as hell...

  • Hell yeah its damn harder to play this on guitar, so i dont really think the girl is the star in this video, shes good at what she does, and so is jason

  • Little girl - 1, jason Becker - 0

  • @alexk307

Lol dude it is waaaaaaaaaaaaay harder to play this on guitar

  • LOL.Canon?

    WTF?

A freakin' japanese kid, with years of playing the same crap, sitting in his small and sad room for days?

All hail Jason Becker. He has sclerosis, only can move the eyes, and he is still composing!LOL!Canon?OMG!

  • wow, this is pretty cool, hearing both at once

  • Heavens that girl is fast.

I personally like the violin more, funny combo like this though XD

  • Que coño le dan comer a estos chinos?

  • @XMORTIUM mierda, pura mierda, pero mierda de la buena, coño!!!

  • omg leave guitar songs to guitars and violin songs to violins , come on

  • @areposo uuuuhhhh....Paganini was the original inspiration for guitar shredding. You'll find that almost every top guitar shredder started out using Paganini's violin works to build the skills they needed to make their own signature styles.

  • @areposo Canon would like a word with you.

  • @gaiance canon?

  • @areposo watch?v=stCKjZniMsQ

    Link to Canon original ^

    watch?v=QjA5faZF1A8

Link to Canon Rock on guitar ^

  • @gaiance thanks but what does it have to do with violin

  • Jason becker played things much harder than that, just do a search on youtube

  • @sluxguitar You've probably never been able to play Paganini or know what his music is. And caprice No.5 is one of the easiest of all the caprices.
