It is amazing how easy it is to get scammed nowadays. I think the best thing is always take a second to think about what you are clicking and if you are not sure drop them a message back like I did with you. =) And with reguard to companies promising things you just kind of have to trust them and as long as they are secure I don't mind too much where it is. In an ideal world you would back up to cloud, a harddrive and a copy on your PC. But...thats a lot of work. The castle is lovely by the way!
as far as I'm aware some companies (dailybooth. tumblr etc) run their site off amazon web service (a pay as you go hosting/server provider) run by Amazon.
Whilst they serve companies around the world, their datacenter I think is based in america
