  • I love How They Are All Swaying Up And Down(:

  • Is it only oboe and bassoon, or is there a English horn?

  • Why are they moving?

  • with all of the people playing it kind of sounds like a trumpet

  • I play oboe :D its great im I n the honour band for cd fulkes middle school

  • Haha!!! Love it! :D

  • I am a trumpet player. And to add to that I am in the high school band. So I don't really know much about oboe or bassoon mostly because we don;t have a bassoon player and only 2 oboes from both high school and middle school. But it all sounds really pretty :)

  • Sounds great, wish the sound quality was better :-(

  • Nunca vi tanta oboísta gostosa juntas!

  • LOL. Not funky at all. That's very old school jazzy. I guess I'm splitting hairs considering how well you guys played. Beautiful.

  • the last minute is the best :D

  • Can i have the parts? i pay for this! And there are 2 taille or are 2 straight english horn?

    Thank you

  • omg soo coool YOU HAVE A BASSOON TOO!!

    Double reeds kick brass!!

  • Calling it an oboe band might annoy English "horn-ists" and bassoonists...

  • PINK DRESSED BASSOONIST: Someone didn't get the text message...

  • I didn't know oboes could be made with that shade of wood...

  • @UltimateVideoRater wooden instruments are only black because they are stained that way.

  • @UltimateVideoRater That's because these are period instruments, in the 17th/18th centuries (apart from other differences) instruments were made from softer tonewoods like boxwood - which has this lighter colour. Modern oboes are typically made from grenadilla which is much darker.

  • I miss part 6 and 7

  • you know what i hate? people ask me, "what do you play?" and I say, "Oboe" then they say, "isnt that the really big one??" i angrily continue, "NO THE OBOE IS SMALLER THAN THE FRICKEN CLARINET!!!" and then they awkwardly walk away

  • @LilMissNoName100 happens to me too XD but they think oboe is a bassoon... idiots O_o

  • cor i would stick those oboes right up there shit factories

  • n nn

  • Can i have the score of this piece????? write to luigipl@tiscali.it

  • I heart all oboes! At my band we hav one oboe (cough cough:)) and 3bassoons.go oboe

  • @Immabecrazy101 Lucky... I only have 1 oboe and no bassoons! And the oboe is me!!!

  • Tht sounded great I just started playing the oboe I'm one of 2 oboes and 2 bassoon

  • HOW DARE YOU CALL THE BASSOON AN OBOE! IM AN OBOEIST AND I DEEPLY HATE THE BASSOON. PLEASE CHANGE THE NAME TO OBOE AND BASSOON BAND. thnx!! <3

  • @lonelyorangejuice

Well there isnt just oboe's there, there is also the Cor Anglais, so really it should be a Double Reed Quartet as its in 4 parts

  • Baroque oboes. Nice.

  • All oboe players dance when they play. It's a fact.

  • @Purpleninjaspwn I wonder why O_O

  • why are all of the oboes and bassoon light brown?

  • @grannystudio baroque oboes. that's why.

  • are those light brown wooden oboes????

  • BRILLIANT! I've always thought about getting an early music group together that would play some pieces, normally, and then either "jazz" up one of those Baroque pieces or better yet play a "big band" piece using the old instruments.

You did great and do some more! THANKS!

  • what kind of oboes are those? i like them. they look different and they obviously play nicely.

  • two oboes two d'amores two hecklephones and a bassoon!!! SWEET!!!

  • are those pure wood oboes? they look so different lol

  • bassoon chick is automatically a beast by playing standing up

  • @lafay6 i know I have alot of trouble doing that!

  • So. Much. Win.

  • This is like, my dream to play in an oboe band. That and to play the English horn.

  • go oboes! we rock

  • @244Crazygirl

OH YEAH! Oboes, UNITE! Lol, oboes are the best xD

  • i think the suprise is that or funky part is the jazz sounding part..... just putting it out there

  • theres a bassoon in there too

  • suprisingly good

  • I want to marry that bassoonist lol

  • I love baroque music. It takes me to a different world.

  • weird looking oboes

  • Loveee thisss :) I play oboeee... Lol, I think everyone who comments on videos like this one does.

  • cool i play an oboe.

  • i play the oboe... not that good yet.... ha ha! well.... maybe. who knows?

  • Wow, that's lovely =) Which are the name of the pieces? Thank you...bye!!! =)

  • Double reed heaven. Love it.

  • what int he are the playing on?

  • funky? it sounds like some renaissance music O.o

  • Keep listening, a little after 2 minutes in they turn it on its head and even throw in a little 2 measure bassoon solo towards the end.

  • @mikeyrose94

    listen at arond 2:12

  • i think their talking abour the dancing lol

  • @mikeyrose94 Maybe it was funky during the Reanissance? :)

  • WOW! I wonder how expensive all of those were to make?!

  • woah.... what type of oboe is that? It looked wooden. Mines not white... it's black

  • It's a baroque oboe. So it's the oboe that was used a long time ago.

  • I was about to ask that XD

  • teach me your ways

  • XD The bassoonist sticks out so much with her pink dress. I likez it!

A good video, but it didn't bedazzle me.

  • I meant I prefer the Oboe

  • I use to play the Oboe but now i play the Bassoon. I prefer the Bassoon.

  • Omg, I love it(: It sounds like something me and my friends would do!

  • those all look like rosewood oboes... are they?

  • i think they are baroque oboes so yes, either rosewood or pear wood.

  • well, it could be box wood.

  • @bananatree94 More likely boxwood or some fruit wood other than pear if they're authentic... most players I know use plumwood or boxwood.

  • mmmmh i think theire crazy!!!

  • Interresting consept, nicely played =)

  • awesome!

  • you need to play in tunee!! but not bad idea..

  • are you crazy?

  • excellenteeeeeeee

  • Double reed band goes funky, thank-you-very-much.

  • and the bassoon gets no credit

  • buy a new reed. lol

  • lovely, I play flute and piccolo, and just got an oboe its very challenging.

  • I like how the bassoon player decided to wear something that makes her stand out. Everyone else is wearing black lol.

  • And her flip-flops are ugly... yuck :(

  • These are baroque oboes, they are made of wood and have a slightly softer tone to them. I honestly would love to have a baroque oboe instead of a classical one :D

  • My oboe's red with gold keys cus I love the aspect of the the baroque oboe, LOL!

  • Oh cool, but don't Baroque Oboes have no buttons? I thought they just had finger holes like recorders...

  • Baroque instruments do have a few keys, but not as many as the modern instruments.

  • Ohh okay.

  • i play the oboe. i feel so special

    4 years last fall

  • If you wan't to play any type of Sax with the Oboe, both myself and my teacher recommends Tenor Sax. Aparantly that's easier to play with if your main instrument is an Oboe out of those 2.

  • loveitall14..i did the same thing!!! and im really happy i switched.

  • its sorta hard tho cuz u kno the countin and stuff

u just dont kno the fingerin

  • i switched from the sax to the oboe

    its rele alot alike

except it takes alot more air

  • Yeah. I play alto sax, flute, and oboe and i must say that the oboe takes the most air.

  • Really? Wow! That's surprising to me, consisdering everyone of my friends who switched to oboe from a totally different instrument from the oboe said that instrument had about 10X's more air resistance than their original instrument,

Well I guess everybody is different, so that might very well be it.

    Hope oboe goes well!

  • I switched from Clari.

  • I switched form Flute and Piccolo to Oboe.

Worst mistake ever, but the experience with keep a constant support really helped out with oboe, and constant ear training, and the air focusing too.

So what prompted you from switchiong from Clarinet to Oboe?

  • I wanted to play an instrument where i'd get more chance of a good living. The fact of the oboe being a soloist instrument has always appealed to me. I would have kept the clari at the same time as the oboe but was there's different breathing patterns, it made it very hard.

  • I have the same problem being as though I'm only an eight month experienced Oboist. I can't get my crystal clear tone on flute after playing oboe for 3 hours straight! It's hard, but it must be harder on clarinet beause of the big difference in embouchure

  • Yeah. My Oboe teacher who also plays flute, although she plays flute well, as she's mainly an Oboist she can't get a very good tone on flute either. :P

  • really?Wow! Well I think my tone is getting better because i'm using my jaw and lips more, but I just can't get my crystal clear tone anymore...

Well it's not the end of the world. So, I guess I'll ad you as a friend!

  • I've played flute for about 1 year and I know what ur talking about. Im starting bassoon and after I play on the flute or bassoon,I get a better tone on both of them. I know the oboe has a tighter embochure than the bassoon. Trumpet(well rather Treble Cleff brass players)transfer best to oboe. Flute transfer best to bassoon so if you like oboe sound and don't already have your own, I would recomend the bassoon because it's got similar yet darker sound and they're playing range is really good to.

  • Yeah I know. I play bassoon and english horn too. know what your talking about with the tansfering with instruments too. Flute and oboe, not so good, although they air support is the best thing that comes out of it, and the focusing of the air stream and knowledge of intonation too!!

I also found out that Flute-Bassoon, is a good transfer, as well as Trumpet-Oboe, but also Oboe-Piccolo, and Alto Flute-Bassoon is too!

I enjoyed that bit of knowledge though. Thnx for that tip!

  • The funky part is so cute! Where is this group from?

  • female oboes!!!

  • yeah..i'm thinkink why..boys don't play oboe?

  • I am a boy and I play Oboe!

  • he only oboe in my band is a guy

  • i've played for two years there's only 2 oboes in my grade 2 diff bands each... wish i could play better

  • I love my oboe so much, i'm th eonly one in my band that plays it!

  • thats not an oboe its an english horn

  • an english horn is part of the oboe family (ignorant)

  • Yep. It's a lot like a big oboe, but it has a bocal (spelling?) and a bulbous bell.

  • I was the first oboe player in middle school and I loved it. Once I got to high school it seemed everyone wanted to play oboe. Lots of flute players switched. I miss playing the oboe. I dont have the instrument or time to play now that I am in college :(

  • dont give up!

  • i play the oboe:DD it is great i have been playing it for two years. Music Teachers are always so happy to see someone who plays the oboe. Ye I am the first oboe player at my school too, and for some reason my teacher won't let anyone else play it, but i get solos which it good. Oboes rock, I want to play the bassoon, it looks and sounds so amazing :D

  • bad luck for you. My teacher may be forgetfull, but atleast im not u

  • Argh! I play oboe but I have a terrible one that I had to buy myself. It's plastic and has a huge crack to the in it at the top that leaks air. Also, whenever I take oboe lessons the something happens to the teachers. One got pregnant another moved the third retired. I mean cursed in all oboe related situations!

  • that's awesome! i want to be in an oboe band =] i've been playing the oboe for almost 5 years now :) it's a great instrument.

  • Yea I've been playing for almost 5 years. I'm the only oboe in my band level....an only oboe band would be so cool!!

  • i play oboe and bassoon, just shouting it out here

  • That's cool, I also play the bassoon and the oboe. I love the bigger instruments, like the english horn and the contrabassoon.

  • Yeah, that is cool I've been playing the oboe about two years but I really want to play the sarrusophone... wikipedia it if you don't know what it is.

  • I doubt your the first Oboist ever. Your school, like my old highschool (Loy Norrix in Kalamazoo, MI), probably had a great music program a long time ago. The director who was responsible for the program probably retired or died and no one good enough to continue the program ever took up his or her job. So you may be the first in a long time. I am sure your director is very excited for you! Oboe is a hard instrument!

  • i'm starting oboe lessons soon and i'm really excited but i think my band director is even more excited than i am because I'm the first oboe player my school has EVER had.

  • This sounds like a pleasant sax band! It's awesome!

I wish I had a baroque oboe, great sound. Breath control and embouchure must also be easier on them due to the wider reeds. If not I'll have to consider JS Bach the most sadistic person in music history, oboists know what I'm talking about.

  • Great funkiest, archiephaenomenalical, and awesome!

  • WOW! They are so good!

I have been playing for nearly a year and am doing grade 3 in Feb. I really want to do things like this!

  • did you just start?

cause if you did then its NOT EASY bt if you've been playing for like 5 6 years like me for clarinet, then obviously its easy for you..

  • ma che te devo dì,aò so bravine....

  • DUUDEE!!

    wooden oboes!!!

    BEAST!!

  • IM JEALOUS they have wooden ones

  • i hope she gets smacked in the head with a basson

  • theres like a bassoon too and an english horn

    is that a clarinet....?

  • 0 on the funk-o-meter :(

  • Oboe is hard for me I can never hit a note higher that a high Bb it's hard dude takes ALOT of practice.... im in 8th grade and i hate the thing.... but if you want to go on ahead... :)

  • ha ha. yes. it is a bit hard. i managed to get it after playing it for bout a month or so. then again, music isn't usually ever a problem for me. i would say to keep on going. i've only had a semester's worth of time playing it. my sophomore year(this last school year). keep working on it. i'm learning bassoon this year though.

  • OMG! You are an inspiration to me! lol I've wanted to play the oboe since 7th grade, and this year for concert band, I'm tracking down an oboe to play. I'm a freshman and there is no one in the band that plays the oboe! Its an outrage. XD I'm so excited, but I'm kinda nervous at how long it might take me to learn it and if I can learn it well enough in time for concert band... Thanks^^

  • Really? Well, that's a nice thing to know. :) I say good luck on that, & have lots of fun!

  • lol im the third oboeist in 32 YEARS at my college. im so alone! =/

  • hello iam goign 2 learn how to play the oboee cna i just say how big are them i am 12 adn small so

  • their small enough

  • heyyy i have been playing the oboe for 3 years and i am very small too i say go for it! :)

  • haha i know what you mean.. i go to western and im in the don wright faculty of music and even here there are only 3 first years and 2 upper years!! so sad... :'(

  • LOL gwen that is so fucking true man... im an oboe and there is only 2 out of my WHOLE school :(

  • i only have one

    one out of 3000

  • fantastic!

  • that waS cool but i cant choose if i want to stay with oboe or go to bassoon?

  • stay oboe, oboes rock but bassoons are cool too but they are even more exspensive than an oboe

  • Love the bassoon girl - that was awesome. I was like... wait a minute... lol

  • Bravo!!!

    Bravo!!!

    잘 듣고 갑니다.

    저도 예전에는 oboe를 전공한 사람입니다...

  • ..why say that in korean..ㅋㅋ

  • .....yeah me too..BRAVO!!!! (^.^)~♥

  • BRAVO!!

  • Where on earth do you get a baroque oboe/cor anglais/bassoon?

  • Europe...

  • Where on earth do you get that many oboists in one room? *sigh* Only Europe.

  • Well i don't mind what read i use i just cut some off to make it sound how i want to, but i play oboe, may be different.

  • Did the bassoonist forget she was supposed to were black?

  • Oh,and any reed suggestions??

And,I've always played mediums.(of different brands that currently escape my mind.lol)

But,they always break really quickly...So,do I need to use hards or is it just the brands??

Is it really hard to make your own reeds??

    Sorry,I have like a million questions.haha

  • well, medium does break easier than hard, but its easier to make a sound on and sometimes the hards can hurt your mouth (at least on bassoon. takes a LOT of lip strength). tuning is a bit more difficult on a medium than on a hard, but i think its worth it because they break in easier have generally have a sweeter sound

  • well Scychobillyplague13, I would say rico reeds, the emerald ones arent that good but they are ok i guess, i use the normal reed the ones with the real small brand name, and try playing on a medium hard those are what i have been playing for a while. But alos remember to be careful with the reed no matter what it will brake easyily any more questions?

  • Speaking of the different kinds of wood..

I play oboe, and I use my high school's oboe, and it is a piece of crap!I'm the school's first real oboe player in years I think.

The rest were just flutes that played it for like 1 song.

I'm really committed to oboe,I'm completely self taught, and I made honor band this year.(even though I did make last chair.lol)

I just wanna know what the difference the wood makes for the sound.

And any good suggestions for brands of oboe?

I'm going to get a teacher soon

  • Oboes have a variety of woods: cocobola, grenadilla (often dyed black but naturally redish), rosewood (red), and violetwood (redish brown with a tint of purple).

I'm assuming your oboe is plastic, and it would be black.

  • yes, Englishhornyay, it does have many differemt types of woods, BUT most oboes are not plastic and even if they are/are not they can still be black

  • how come the oboes aren't black like mine?

  • those are baroque oboes. copies of originals from the 18th century. most of those are from boxwood, which is a yellowish wood. It is then either oiled or stained darker.

  • You can have an oboe band? Whoa, that's crazy! Awesome, yes, but crazy, indeed!
