  • Oh Sammi, i miss you girl!!

  • A cross-over masterpiece that magically takes one back to the glorious days of AM car radio.

  • This song came out the year I was married, but 22 yrs. later ended in divorce, but I "STILL" love the song, and Now I'm back to looking for a special someo ne to "Help---------------. claudiah60

  • She has a beautiful voice, this song has some words screwed up.

  • @franklindavid You described her in one word "Beautiful". Beautiful Song, beautiful voice.

  • This song got me through my freshman year in college... I played it until I wore out the record. Thank you Sammi (and Kris Kristoffersson).

  • Love this song...

  • One of the best versions of this song, lacks som motion, as per the video, she looks alof.

  • beautiful music video thank you..

  • Wow! Incredible.

And brings back memories and feelings from 1971 (I was in college). Then, I thought it was one of the most beautiful songs I had ever heard.

    And I still do....

(Thank you for this post and the audio quality is excellent.)

  • Would love to see and hear her now

  • tru country music

  • ONE GREAT CLASSIC ,WILL LIVE FOREVER

  • Brilliant

  • Classic bring back the good ole country music, just what she is singing about.

  • oh this song makes me cry even i dn't notice myself crying over it . sure brings back alot of memories

  • Amazing singer, effortless performance and a timeless song. One of a few artist who is/was greater at singing than most superstars. This singer had more natural talent than most I've heard. The 'record business' just never got behind her enough. If she was promoted and marketed better, she would have achieved a much higher status. Go back and listen to those other album cuts from Mega and Electra records, then you'll know.

  • @bulldog31257 Amen Brudda !

  • Meravigliosa canzone, stupenda voce!

  • 1. One of Kris Kristofferson´s best songs.

    2. Those two who disliked it can GTFO.

  • and I Have Seen Over 2 Million Youtube Views OMG I Feel special!

  • She sang the verse from the perspective of a woman as the song was written by Kris Kristofferson.

  • @studiodudeio Sweet Sammi... such a pure voice... and like a whisp of wind she was gone.... too many great talents are swept away before their time.

  • Comment removed

  • She died in Arizona on the Apache reservation.

  • Just a beautiful song!

  • My favorite female country singer. She wasn't as recognized as Loretta, Tammy, or Dolly, but to me she's just that little bit more soulful than even those three greats. Thanks for posting this terrific performance.

  • This was played at my grandmother's funeral today. I had to look it up such a good song. But very sad..

  • I like this song, but every time I hear it I have to laugh... She looks like a total slag...

  • @shmuli9 What is a slag? Is that your description of a beautifully talented woman like Sammi? If so, that's good. Sammi is one of the greatest artists ever and this song is really one of the best ever in true country music. Some of today's singers don't really fit the idea of country music. A lot of them like to get into the genre and then sing something totally opposite. Sammi's voice and style are unique and everything she sings is a winner. Thank you Allen for posting this. - Paula

  • @twinPaula12 Yes, I think she's a good singer, but this song, while good (I used to have it on a CD) just makes me smile. (There are some other songs that I like that also make me kind of laugh - like "Your Precious Love"). I'm sure Sammi sleeps a lot easier knowing that you passionately defend her (why? because I have the unmitigated gall to LIKE her?)

  • ...I remember Sammi collecting the Grammy for this...and thanking Kris...

    For writing it....!

  • i cannot believe it s been 40 yrs ago when this song came out

  • mother I miss you and I love you, No matter what life tryed to throw our way,you will always be a shinig beam of light ,beauty, and eloquence in a world full of ungrateful flakes of the music buissness.Rest in peace my love ,for all tresspasses are forgiven and tossed as dust to the wind.soon we shall meet again in our next life or the one after. If you can please say hi to all my old friends(musicians) and tell them I love them ,for I miss them dearly. Your LOVING SON ZENITH APOLLO STAR ;)

  • OMG, this song always cheers me up when i'm down :( and although i feel like crying , i can't stop enjoying this AMAZING song (L)

  • Sammi Smith worked as a "Fluffer" in the hard core porn industry for Larry Flynt for several years in the mid seventies to support her cocaine addiction.

  • me & my mom would sing this together when it was on the radio

  • Sammi - thanks for this great song and your wonderful voice - R.I.P. - miss you so !

  • Memories, takes me back to the 70's, just kiddin' i'm 18 but LOVE this song!!

  • Smokin' georgous!

  • When I learned of Sammi's death, my heart was broken. She and I were living on "Saunders Ferry Road" in Hendersonville Tn. Find that song on YouTube That said it all. Just type in "Sammi Smith', and that song will be there. I lost track of her just before her untimely death. May she rest in peace, (She deserves it)

  • sammi was my neighbor in florida until her death...sadly missed

    frankie dee

    hershey, pa.

  • @TheFrankieDee Sammi was in Oklahoma city when she passed. And Texas before that. She was a good friend and very sweet lady.

  • I knew Sammi really well here in Nashville. We were very close. I was with her when she recorded 'Help me Make it through the night. and most of her early recordings. I was with her for a time, before she got really big. She was a wonderful friend, and I will always remembr her.

I remember something someone said- "Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some move our soul to dance, They stay a while, leave memories that never die, and we wre never ever the same." This was my Sammi

  • @TheFrankieDee You were so lucky to be her neighbor...how was this legend as a neighbor?

  • is a wunderful

  • Written By Kris Kristofferson. Nobody wanted this song. (gotta love Nashville back in the day). Sammi Said She wanted to do it and forced her Record company to let her and wow

  • Just a great performance by a wonderful singer.

  • remembered this song in '71 in Prince Albert, Sk @ my rented apt waking up after a nite of drinking and partying..remembered lying down in bed with my young wife and ...the other fav is Snakes Crawl At Night by Charlie Pride..same yr..'71

  • @Medicinecloud I enjoy hearing your story from the year this song was on the airwaves....I hope you and your wife is still happily married! Sammi Smith will forever be in our hearts with this song!

  • @fagarass ...nope...divrcd...must move on..but yes wish we hadnt divrc'd..

  • Sammi Smith (Jewel Faye) was my 1st cousin! she is missed greatly. She was a wonderful person!!!!!!

  • @tammybass0521 That is great to hear Sammi Smith is your 1st cousin...How was she off stage? "Help Me Make It Through The Night" is one of my favorite songs of all times! She seemed quiet but beautiful with a great voice...I love her!

  • @fagarass

    Read my comments; jonathan96635

  • @jonathan96635 I read them and how lucky are you to know and live by a LEGEND? Tell me, how was Sammi as a neighbor? She is one of my favorite singers in country music history!

  • I've heard this Kris Kristofferson song by so many, but nobody does it like Sammi Smith. It is truly,classic...one of the greatest C&W songs ever. I guess that's why she was chosen to perform it! Could anyone disagree!

  • sammi was my neighbor in florida..i was lucky enough to get a new cd that she just recorded...she was great..sadly missed

    frankie di nunzio

    hershey, pa.

  • I love the song but she looks/acts really depressed in this...

  • wow very nice version! i love it so much!

  • I am surprised that she didn't have any other big hits...I am sorry that she died fairly young as well.

  • Oh what a wonderful song this is! Absolutely love it :-)

  • Best Kristofferson song ever. Sammis' delivery is beautiful :)

  • uniquely sung...beautiful...just beautiful

  • i've heard many singers attempt this song but none as good as this. i just wish she

could have sung a couple of extra chouruses.

  • Thanks Kris.

  • I fell in love with this voice the first time I heard this song. Nothing has changed in 20 years or so. Sammi is still the best singer of this song. It's hers.

  • super 'stworzone by kochać' szacun

  • I bet I have heard 100 different people sing this song, but this version is my favorite.

Her voice is so emotional, smooth, country at its best. Thank you for posting this!

  • The very, very, very best!

  • Thank you for sharing.

  • I love her voice-it's like velvet......

  • she owns this song

  • reminds me of bad pot

  • Gladys Knight tried to sing this song, she screwed it up big time. It might not have been her fault though cause she only had one backup PIP.

  • awesome...

    An instant Fav :)

  • Wow, you could tell she felt that one. Beautifully done! Some real singing!

  • @pwizard665 Having a SLUT for a mom shouldnt make you say ignorant things!

  • één van mn favo nummers

  • Love this!!

  • You help me make it through my nights.

    Can I return the favor?

  • I was in high school dj at an FM country station played this song seemed like every night about the same time, to me it was and still is one of the most erotic yet lonely songs sung.

  • Another song from the Vietnam time and a young Marine's memory of a girl who left a broken heart and memories of old...

  • @BushMass thanks!

  • And that sucks! Thanks for serving soldier!

  • @BushMass

Semper Fi. Welcome back to the land of the big PX. No more in country time except in your head.

  • @BushMass , Me too ,Semper Fi .

  • great song, great voice.

  • 8 track tapes..they use to take most of the front of my car...i was lucky to have a few of them to play..but they were great for there time...i suppose i can say the same thing about the Romans...they were great for there time...and lets not forget the Greeks ..there were just wonderful for their time..and lets not forget...peace..on earth...and good well to all men...as the holiday season comes into focus....God bless us all everyone...

  • When I was a kid we had a van and it had an 8 track and the only 8 track tape we had was Sammy Smith and this song was on it. :)

  • do u know who Luka Magnotta is BTW ?

  • @takemybreath57 no.....

  • SAMMI SMITH RULES

  • I first heard this song almost 30 years ago when I danced to it with an ex-boyfriend. Even after all these years, whenever I hear this song, I think of him and the dance we shared.

  • Aweome

  • This is a dignified performance...What happened that we should be having semi-naked women singing right into our faces on TV and videos? While some feminists might challenge the 'domesticity' of Sammi here, isnt this a show we could all watch with our families, young and old? I don't want to compare this performance to Gladys Knight's, but Sammi held her own ground here. This is more than a love song, it's a serenade to a lover...when you are already in love...God, they used to have real music!

  • help me meake me though my life love u so much i cant stans it to me ur my life and i love uou so much i feel like you dont love me cuz of a girl named christy im the same person and i do love you bery muce

  • Sammi rules this song forever.

  • Sammi Smith was beautiful....love this video and and love this song...she is beautiful here......

  • Is it just me......... or does she look drunk in the video?? LOL

  • Um, Lick......... if that was directed to ME, first off, look at YOUR name, you have NO right to call someone else DUMB!!! Or do you just want everyone to know your a slut? Second of all, I'm not even from America!

I like Faith Hill but she is just second best.

    Sammi nailed it.

  • Why?

  • wonder if the coons will do a rap version of this

  • One of the greatest classics of all time.

This song has been interpreted by hundreds of

artists but Sammi's version made it to # 1

in 1971. I prefer the original version, though, by Kris Kristofferson and in second

    place by Jerry Lee Lewis.

  • Me too, and I'll tell you who I love their versions in 3rd and 4th place,

    3. Willie Nelson
