what is it with modern American adults and their obsession with safety? The stairs are fine. Kids have brains too, and they might use them more if they were allowed to. great house.
He did say that, and he is utterly wrong. The UK has homes over 1000 year old that are made of cob. It is "new" here in the US & there are no problems with this type of building.
PakaNoHida, I build these type homes and others, the city and state building codes are geared to make sure that money flows into the city officials pockets and that no one can or should be sued or held liable, I have faced numerous city officials that refuse to see this as a viable replacement in city limits, until they can find a way to make money of of almost free homes they will not pass it in large cities.
You misunderstood what I typed out. I am not referring to what you typed out. I was referring to WBHkungfu's comment of "you couldn't do anything like this now that the health and regulations of City and State? "
You can depending on where you live. As Michael Reynolds says, there are "Pockets of freedom" in America still.
@haylspa I dont think they are safe for adults either without some kind of hand rail which could be added just as artfully..even so, they wont see the need for safety until someone takes a bad tumble which eventually will happen..I know, crap I just fell outside on the ground tripping over something and nearly broke my leg and messed up my knee.
looks can be deceiving and often times are, if you cant safely maneuver up stairs that are 3-4 times wider than your foot then you have a personal problem, maybe a equilibrium or inner ear issue, I dont know might be worth looking into.

Just north of Grants Pass, a very small town
I don't understand why you can't build whatever the hell you want as long as it's on your own property. This is a very beautiful home.
