There is no need for hate crime laws, if someone commits a violent act they get punished in the legal system. Why do they need to be prosecuted more because they didn't commit the crime on a certain race or belief system. Why categorize people into groups? You're saying people are different with these laws and they should be treated equally under the law.

Hate crime laws are there because a situation gets out of hand & it sends a clear message that things need to change quick. It also offers support fpr the people that are shit scared from receiving the violence as that certain group starts to become paranoid, as a whole & over defensive. The land of the free is far from it.

As far as keeping them implimented over a long period of time, I don't think that is the answer. It should stay until the US gets over their generalised hatred

How can you have the audacity to compare hate crimes to petty arguments over a belief system? No one questions a persons right to be a christian, or at least they shouldn't, only the veracity of their beliefs and the manner in which they are presented. I've never heard of a single hate crime against a christian, save for in historical texts, such as early roman persecution of christians. Otherwise most persecution of christianity was by opposing denominations of christianity.

Let me say first, that when someone commits a violent crime, they should be punished, and i do not condone violent crime against anyone.

That said, violent crimes happen to people from all cultures, races, sexes. The motivation for a crime should not result in harsher punishment. The punishment should be fair and uniform, ie killing a man and killing a transgender man in the same fashion should have equal penalty. Not agreeing with that, well, kinda sounds unfair, huh?

Thanks for posting this, Sasha. Yes, it's a huge problem here in the US, among many. We seem to have more monsters per square mile than anywhere else in the world.
