I think the complaint about older rappers is that they have drifted away from their original appeal with age. It's cool that older rappers like jay z or eminem are still rapping and releasing music. I think that as rappers, especially influential ones like jay z and eminem, they have a tremendous ability to show younger rappers how to grow into a position of maturity and respect from the industry. That said, I'd much rather listen to the slim shady lp than recovery.
Well, imo, it really depends. Like, if you got a dude who's been in the game for like, 20 years rapping about selling crack or some shit, then that's just... No. Certain artists just never grow up. Jay-Z is a perfect example of this, which is why he gets a lot of crap for his age.
Some Rappers nowadays don't appreciate or don't see the value in previous Rappers that came before them and art form of rapping or just the Hip Hop culture in general so how could you expect a Rapper to give quality Rap when they don't even know who Big Daddy Kane is or Rakim for example...you see what I'm saying?....like in the 1990's rappers built upon the 1980's rappers because i think they maintained a high respect for their craft of Rap unlike some Rappers today
I think the problem is the topics that rappers rap about when they are young. Dumb shit - gangbangin, fuckin, gittin money, minstrel dances, and bling. Nobody wants to hear an old ass dude like too short or uncle luke talk about hoes, or hear some family man like snoop talk about gangbangin' and chillin' on the corner... it just doesn't make sense. we also do not want to hear the same stories and braggadocio in your rappins that we heard a decade ago. People are supposed to grow up and mature.
I agree with u but its about the music not about age the music industry created this decease not HIP HOP at least the true hip hop fans like myself still love and respect our elders for example when GURU passed away last yr I was heart broken cuz I knew a piece of my childhood and HIP HOP history was gone but the mans music if u go back to his catalog is one of the finest catalog in music history not just HIP HOP who can ague with that?
@Lorenzo312 Thats why we gotta respect and love our elders when their still with us cuz once their gone we will never get that magic they blessed us with when they were with us in the flesh.
This is a great topic (you got thought-provoking videos, bro!), so just one other point.
40 is not even remotely old! Sure, "old" next to a soljaboy asshole, but hell...... I want to see a Nas album when he's 60! Why not? If emcees keep their heat (and come with good flow/content), why the hell not? Hip hop has a "destroy" attitude that it needs to shed, for real. Who sells out stadiums in a heartbeat (Stones, Kiss, Paul McCartney)... Our soldiers should do that too... Sky's the limit.
thats cool and all and all those artists are dope but they cant rhyme forever, iam concerned as to who will take thier place as the best artists in hip hop? hip hop needs another great mc to be come up soon another nas or rakim but i doubt that'll happen
This is pure crazy...hip hop is hip hop; who cares about the age??? You got it right, bro. We hip hop fans (I've been a fan 18+ years; I'm 26) have grown up on this artform. The cats that I grew up on and love (KRS One, Guru, Nas, Mighty Mos Def, Common, Ice Cube) are "old" only because hip hop itself is really really young.
it depends what the older rappers are rapping about.
the only thing is that some rappers fall off later in their career and what i worry about is that it might ruin their legacy, kind of like when a boxer fights past his prime.
hey bro....you wanna know my view on age and hiphop??? Masta Ace is 40 something years old and still kills it with emc...epmd are in their late 30´s/early 40´s and their new album is fucking awsome...Sean Price one of my favorite rappers ever is 37 or something.Everyone who is doing hiphop for a long time gets older with the music.
The hip hop community is just ignorant

Jay Z turns 40 on December 4, 2009. We "older" people have the complete knowledge so the kids need to have respect. One, Maka
