Any ideas what the symptoms of a bad TDI DMF are? I suspect that my 2000 Golf's DMF went out today. Completely unexpected. When you crank the starter you hear a "JERK-JERK-JERK," and you can feel the vibration in sync in the clutch pedal. The clutch doesn't push completely to the floor, and it has resistance like in a brake pedal. It shifts between gears now, but it was stick in-gears before. When you start the car there is a grind with a high-rev sound. So......DMF? Clutch?
It is said that these so called dual mass flywheels fail faster when the car is driven at low rpm's in higher gears (3,4,5) with a lot of throttle. Like when doing 35 mph slight uphill in 4th gear with 50%+ throttle. 3rd gear and 40% throttle is a better choice in such situations to maximize DMF life.
Yep, really needed that changing!!! Every DMF is different check with the manufacture on how much "Freeplay angle" there should be for the specific part. PLUS DO NOT FIT the solid conversion kits, the DMF's are there for a reason, they dampen out the torsional vibration of the engine, which in turn protects the life of the drive train etc.
