@sgntmills it took a wile for me to find mine out to but baby common snapping turtles have sorta spike things on there shell and tail so if you have a baby snapping turtle then its probably a common or a common and aligator snapper fucked and had a retarded child (: your welcome
@phantoniumable well it's not retarted but its is probably mixed,it was 164 pounds and its neck stretches 1 foot its body from tail to head is about 3 feet....so what about that?
@sgntmills well i was kinda joking around about the retarded thing and since its an adult then can u show me a picture upload to wiki uploads and send link to me
There used to be a giant common snapper around my old neighborhood. I was soooo pissed when some asshole cut it's head off. If I knew who did it I would have punch their face in. >:(
@sartung no. common and alligator live all of their lives by themselves until mating. they claim territory like most animals and dont do well with others. they will fight in the cage until one of them is the victor, probably the alligator turtle.
Hey Billy bob your one dumb ass inbred red neck bitch and need to kill your self you hog looking mother fucker.Kill your slut mother and punk father frist for having your fucked up ass
how long does it take for the common snapping turtle to get that big!?!?!?!? please answer i have 7 of my own and i want to know when there going to grow!!!
@Iwatchtrek They are not that young, you can tell just by their size. Constant handling isn't that great either, it can cause a lot of stress for the animal.
@DGiles21 If you can't properly house something that naturally grows to a large size eventually, you shouldn't be considering keeping it in the first place. What's wrong with a box turtle or anything with less demanding requirements?
@DGiles21 Actually, by hardly feeding it you can stunt it's growth. Something extreamly cruel (stunting the growth) In 1995 I took a DNA blood sample from one a guy kept in an aquarium for about 16 years. It was about 7 inches. It was about a 30 gallon aquarium, but the turtle would have grown to fill the tank if it had been feed right. And FYI, common snapping turtles live much longer then 30 years. Try about 130 years or more.
how many turtles do you have if you keep those 2 turtles in the same tank once the alligator snapper gets big enough it will try to killand eat the other turtle it happened to me not once not twice but 3 times and that is not a le even though the commen snapper is bigger the alligator one will still kill it. it will lie on the bottom of the tank and the other one will swim over it and bamm it will lock on to its neck and rip it to shreads it happened to me 2 times.
I saw an aligator snapper in Lake Sebago, Maine some year ago. The thing had a head twice the size of a big man. It had to be over 6 feet in length and probably weighed 500 pounds or so. This turtle has been seen swimming around the lake close to shore for more than 25 years.
alligator snappin turtles have been found with musket wouldnt possibly from the civil war witch would put them atleast 150 years old maybe they live onger then u mite think
turtles arnt always aggressive it depends what mood they r in, my common r sweet angels when im around but when my mom/dad/brother ae around they snapp, so they may pick favorites
@rockylego YES! Leave them in the water and they are calm, but on land they get ANGRY! They won't bite you if you are swimming around in a pond, they only bite if they feel threatened, and they just aren't comfertable on land.
Some r just calmer than others. I've noticed that snappers that r handled somewhat often arent as aggressive. My friend and me both have commons and both r in good health according 2 our vet. Im no expert but im very familiar with the commons.
@CRAZYericCRAZY I don't disagree completely, but they can actually calm down in captivity if you don't harass them. A lot of people that keep them will agitate them, because it is "cool" to see them fight back. Most aren't this calm.
I did a common snapper that was super healthy, and super calm. He was wonderful.
@CRAZYericCRAZY It's entirely possible they're just cold, and therefore inactive, or they're so well fed and used to the guy handling them that they're not aggressive.
@CRAZYericCRAZY lol fuck you they are just turtles. they should be happy that he does not chop them up and eat them. and its good when theyre "dosile".
and da inside of an aligator turtles is black lik mud n a comons is whitsh grey, n an comons can pull its head more so in da an aligator snapper can n aligator snapping turtles can live over 100 years old easy
lol man you have the worlds mose doseile alligator snaping turtle ever all the other ones ive seen would not think twice about biteing the oerson tuching it lol awsome informative video
they can live much longer than 100 years scientists have found alligator snappers with musket balls in them from the civil war and common snappers live an average of 50 years
Turtles grow to their environment, I know this cuz ive had them almost all my life. Ive always prefered common over alligator cuz theyre more active and much mor fun to watch, my alligators would only leave their cave at night and would just hide out most of the time. Common snappers would just watch me from its aquarium and was always hungry
absolutely wrong. just because you've had turtles for most of your life doesn't mean that you were raising them right. not providing proper accommodations for a turtle will stunt its growth and shorten its life. that's not called "growing to their environment". any respectable herpetologist will you the same.
Alligator snapping turtle will be big but enviroment and the size will determine the actual size of the animal ruke is a general for all North American fresh water turtle species
haah some guy tried to sell me a "russian snapping turtle". he told me they didnt get as big as commons and there was no such thing as an alligator snapping turtle.
@billy33533 Same thing works for humans! If you want your kids to stay young forever, just don't feed them as much, you can keep them smaller!
Seriously though, ectotherms have different metabolisms and growth traits, but it just isn't right to starve them to keep them smaller. If you want a smaller turtle, get a smaller species. Either snapping turtle is way too large of a species of 99% of most keepers. Get a musk or mud turtle.
