Well, folks . . . thanks to Pano for identifying this melody.
I'm just an amateur drummer, but I notice that Buddy Rich is using a fairly
"extended" stick, with a bottom grip in the right hand. In the left though, he seems to be defeating the purpose of a long stick by gripping nearly half-way down the shaft.
But I guess when you're immensely talented, you can play however you damn well please!
@garysaddleback It's "Sunday Morning", by Neal Hefti. Hefti composed several movie soundtracks. Another version of "Sunday Morning" is here: watch?v=wrM2p153R98
@bsbone54 You got the line-up right on! That is my dad (Red) on bass. Jack and Buddy and dad made up what was considered the most powerful rhythm section in jazz.
@duganreno Please help me identify one band member...? Please, can you tell me the name of the Alto Sax player... at 02:37 - You were there, and I am hoping you can end a great family debate... this may/or may not be my uncle.
Hey, I personally think he did his most notable work behind a set of ludwig drum's, even though he specifically mentioned countless times his love for slingerland,he was pissed that slingerland made krupa their #1 poster boy, he seems more at home on ludwig, plus ludwig tried to offer him exclusivity, but he didn't follow thru, u can't confine talent like this!

@garysaddleback I don't think stick length means much. Finding the balance of the stick is whats important.

Yes, that is dad (Red Kelly) on bass and Jack on piano. Jack wrote most of Harry's arrangements for almost 20 years or so.

Trpts: Tony Scodwell, Tom Porrello, Sanford Skinner (?), Nick Bouno.
Trbs: Ray Sims, Joe Cadena, Dave Wheeler (BsT).
Saxes: Just recognize Joe Riggs with Harry, and Corky Corcoran on first tenor.
Rhythm: Looks like Red Kelly on bass, and Jack Perceval, piano.
Buddy Rich is awesome!

Since the end of the Big Band Era, our country has headed downhill, I wish there was a way to go back to those years.

Amen to that! On a personal note, it would pose a problem as I wasn't born until 1959. }8^D
