My mothers hometown, was arbereshe since the middle of 19th cenury.
Unfortunetly, the unification of italy with the following government didn't
allowed us to continue to speak this language. Only one town (San
Marzano di San Giuseppe/ (Ta) ) speaks Arbereshe. Anyway, our
roots are in Balkan. Salentino (the dialect spoken in Salento) is 50% greek/
illyrian greek, and byzantine greek.
