  • Gotta love this song. oFTo

  • We sang this song at my elementery school in 6th grade :D i love this song :))

  • six people are nazis.

  • I love this video. Thank you for making it :)

  • Historical accuracy does matter. Only a fool would say otherwise.

  • WW1 or WW2 ?? Army or Marines ?? 1914 or 1918 ?? June or Christmas?? Let's not worry about facts or truth, just does it make you feel good... Sound like anybody ?? I guess its just Garth being Garth, or is that just Joe being Joe ?? Lets remember history for what it really is, not what we would like it to be...

  • Wow. I didn't think it was possible for me to love this song anymore. Thank you for making this so much more beautiful to me.

  • Did you know there is no National Memorial for those who fought in WWI.

  • @graycloud057 Sadly true. A memorial plaque (headstone) was recently authorized at Arlington cemetery. Europe has more impressive memorials to our Doughboys than we have here at home.

  • Wow this song gets me everytime. Merry Cristmas.

  • Belleau Wood was fought in the spring 1918. The Christmas truce was between British,French and German troops in 1914. WWI was nearly over and both sides were ready to go home and call it over when the U.S. jumped in and created a blood bath. There is no place for inaccuracies in anything involved in historical record.

  • @graycloud057 So are we to understand you blame the US for LENGTHENING WWI, "just when you had it well in hand?" Strange ~ I learned another version of that. I doubt your ancestors felt that way, at all, or they wouldn't have renamed Belleau Wood in our honor, nor erected monuments to our sacrifice. Or perhaps you're German? I sure hope you're not a Subject of the Crown, or French!

Caution, friend ~ your comments boarder on ingratitude.

  • @FLSHBK1 I'm just talking history here, nothing more nothing less. I am a U.S.Combat vet. Yes the war was lengthend when the U.S. got involved. If you do not know this "version" dig a little into the truth, not what high school social studies books say. Many then were isolationist, look that up too sir.

  • @graycloud057 Thnx ~ familiar with the term (2 college degrees, a military career and 25yrs of MilHx hobby). Europe was going broke, The Crown was running low of their Finest, and Germany was w/in a forced-marching day of Paris when the Marines took the field outside Chateau-Thierry. Our aerial combat had held Germany at bay for more than a year and everyone was begging us for more involvement. Allied forces (including US Army) proved unable to push Krauts back. Only a handful of Marines (CONTD)

  • @graycloud057 CONTD: made it thru the Wheatfield to engage the Germans in B.Wood, but were so fierce the Germans reported they were being killed by thousands of madmen and retreated. As brother combat vets, we both know each war is a bloodbath. Big deal, right? We were asked to go, so we went. War certainly would have been shorter w/o us, but the outcome would have been completely opposite. BTW ~ THANK YOU for your service, and welcome home! (USMC, RVN 69-70-71).

  • and as a marine recruit i'd just like to thank everyone out there for caring there' v been times when i thought that no one really cared about what us soldiers think.

  • @GargoyleZoo3 you are not a SOLDIER. You are a MARINE recruit. Once you make it through training you will be a MARINE, not a SOLDIER. Good luck and Semper Fi.

  • my great great grand dad was one of the marines in that battle, if he was still alive i'm pretty damned sure that he'd kiss you man.

GOD BLESS ALL, MAY WW3 NEVER COME, AND IF IT DOES I'LL PERSONALLY KICK ITS ASS!!!

  • Found this as I was searching for the song, very well done, brought tears to my eyes.

  • Amazing video. Historical inaccuracies don`t matter. You portrayed what you wanted to well. A very moving tribute to those brave soldiers. Well done.

  • @DavidKiern, man you did a helluva a job with the video. You are always going to have trolls on here that have nothing better to do than cry about details. Your video was great. Its a great message and the video brings it home.

  • Had to laugh when I saw the uniforms since I am a ten year Army veteran and been through two different 'field' uniforms!! I love this song, especially at Christmas time, and even with the uniform fun, it is still a great video.

  • Comment removed

  • Great video. You conveyed your message loud and clear.

  • common guys.. no one fucking cares if there is historical impurities... who cares if there was no snoflakes.. its a good as hell song.. with a REALLY good viedo...... tyvm for this vid david.. keep up the good work

  • retreat hell, we just got here

  • this video need more views

  • Songs stupid. Snowflakes? the Battle of Belleau Wood took place june 1918 there were no snowflakes let alone christmas sorry garth books should have read about it before writing a stupid song.

  • @weezinator1232 actually it took place in 1914 between British and German forces. Not only no snow flakes, not an American in sight... you hadn't joined the war yet. >:)

  • excellent. as a vet, it does capture a lot of the fear that young men in harm's way feel. Well done

  • i can say this from a man that has been in a combat zone. i don't care how wrong the uniforms were or anything like that. you did an amazing job of what we want, and what we know

  • @Cavscoutkid If I might ask, what DO you want? I don't think hardly anyone has ever asked a soldier that. I'd like to know

  • lol i had to look back to figure out what you were talkin about. Every soldier wants peace but we all know that sometimes it takes a person to do violence, to protect the people they love.

  • @Cavscoutkid Indeed, sad and unfortunate but very true nonetheless. Guess that's why this song hits home so well for a lot of people

  • This is amazing! Great job for someone at 16! I bet you make some great ones now also.

  • "Heaven's not beyond the clouds, It's just beyond the fear."

" Heaven's not beyond the clouds. it's for us to find here"

One of the best lines I've ever heard

  • Nice video. Perfect song. And its based on a true WW 1 incident where German & English troops (Americans weren't in the war yet) actually did venture into no mans land for trading, singing, and general merriment on Christmas day.

  • What is more important than the historical accuracies, is the heart it takes takes to make a film like this. It gives me hope for a future that people can still feel emotions. Though war is a necessary evil, it is the hearts of men like you and I, that will push the powers that be, to find "a better way."

    Well done.

  • whats up with the uniforms

  • i think it is a good tribute to the song. the facts and uniforms are not historically correct, but the song reminds all of us that war is terrible and there are good people on both sides of the war. it showed the courage of a german soldier to get up and sing with his enemy staring him in their sights of their rifles. it should also remind us that we as a nation have alot of brave men and women who serve and are away from home on these special times and they all could use some peace.

  • That will forever be one of Garth's best songs. And you did a fantastic job on the film. It told the story just right. Thanks for uploading!

  • Bud, you did a dang good job with this. Had it been a Hollywood production I'd nitpick the uniforms, but its not. You did an excellent job with what you had to work with. You should be proud.

  • Marines' the Americans didn't even enter the war till 1918; this event occurred in 1914. It's the Garth Brooks song that is misleading. The Christmas truce occurred in Belgium near Ypres which is a ways away from Belleau Wood. Although both areas are associated with the two battles of the Marne. Mostly British and Germans participated in this event.

  • @btbiermann, The US entered WW1 in 1917, though American's were fighting prior to the official declaration of war, under the French and British

  • Excellent job! Beautiful video.

  • Yes, great video and wonderful song. Just note that the historical glitch that the title of Garth's song relates to the battle in 1918 and the Christmas truce was in 1914, three years before American troops were sent.

  • What happend was first, after the german stood up, the brittish pulled a flask of whiskey or scotch and gave it to the german, both sides played soccer, the germans won. They exchanged adresses and other thigs. photos of family members and the next day. they had to be moved for they were nolonger shooting at enemies anymore. they were shooting at friends...so both sides were oved to different aereas. its a preety powerful storhy showing the compassion of man...its a unique story hey?

  • I apreciate the original events of the 1914 Christmas Truce, I respect the Marines who fought like dogs from hell in the battle of Belleau Wood, and I still like the song that Garth put out. I think this video is a great effort, esp by a 16 year old with no computer! Good job Dadiv, I hope you persued film..

  • I hrew up listening to this song, and had heard about the truce. It took me researching to see where Garth led us astray. The "Christmas Truce" was an unofficial pause in fighting between German and British soldiers in 1914. Belleau Wood was a battle much later in the war. The US entered the war in 1917 and the battle of Belleau Wood took place in June 1918. Garth used the Christmas Truce story and added a little American presence to it to make it sell in the U.S. All the being said Continued-

  • Greeat video man. But the battle of belleau wood was won by the Marines, not the army. Lol

But other than that, preeetty wicked man!

  • great song, only thing that bugs me a little is im a marine, and the battle of belleau wood, is the battle we recieved or famous nickname "devil dogs" from or "teufelhunden" as the germans called us on account of or aggressive and tireless fighting style, yet every person in this video is what appears to be army uniforms, i understand u were 16 when u made this its a great video and a great song that was the only issue i had with it.

  • There is a great website with info on this see christmastruce dot co dot uk

They have a lot of letters written by the soldiers who describe the truce.

Some of the letters and the story are in tthe newly published book Oh Holy Night: The peace of 1914 available on amazon

  • That was soo beautiful. It brought tears to my eyes.

  • totally awesome video for a truly great song

  • This song is about a Christmas Truce in 1914. America didnt come into the War until 1917.

  • who cares if there is 1 or 2 historical inaccuracies it is freaking amaizing 500% props

  • Great video. Now if you had the funding and resources and expanded it, it'd be perfect. For 250 at 16, this is damn good.

  • don't appologise for that, its a billiant vid... And to do something like that at 16 without a computer is excellent, and from what i can see u used pyros instead of computer effects which makes any film brilliant... nice one mate....

  • they were british, and u look like WW2. but amazing video 10/5 this is amazing great job =)

  • I think you did an awsome job on this video! I love that song!

  • Incorrect uniforms, incorrect helmets, incorrect rifles, soldiers are too clean, bad trenches, no man's land has grass and flora, stupid country music. Atrocious video.

  • @KaiserReich98 The men are way too clean I agree. Battle tore uniforms, dirt caked faces, and cuts and sores are the way to go.

  • tufelhunde

  • who ever made this film has no resepect ....sorry......

  • yes very inaccuarate but well done brought the true meaning of the song

  • love this song i cant beleve you eddited this on a VCR, it is amaizing. Where is the wrong uniform 121212121909? 1 last thing the first time i watched this video i cried and it is only with this video no other one will do that. AMAIZING!!!

  • This was a great vid...the song has always given me chills, but this vid actually moved me to tears. Great job. Even if there's debate as to the historical accuracy. That doesn't matter. It's what the song makes you feel and think...it's not a song's job to get all the facts right; that's for the history teachers.

  • Just messing with my Gart Brooks picture, I dont wnat to see a buch of kid idiots.. WWI was terible...

  • btw in this movie and this song it was meaning the WWII, the second world war.

And it was terrible, too, for sure!

    Good song.

  • great job on the vid guys. for a bunch of kids doing it it is... now u guys need to do it in authentic ww1 clothing and weapons

  • Why would Brooks write a song like this? Totally false history. Is there not enough pick ups and tractors out there to write about?

I suppose one day a Frenchman will write a song about the French foreign legion and the battle of Okinawa or Iwo Jima. As long as its a good song and it respects French veterans is all that counts.

  • Historical inaccuracy doesn't matter at all....

The message is what you got across....and I don't think it would matter if you had a hollywood budget with 100 percent accurate props and uniforms, you couldn't have delivered the message any better.

    Good video man!

  • @Luftwaffels Yes it does.

  • Very effective video...love this song.

  • did u try to do a saving private ryan intro?

  • Absolutely incredible video. Who cares if it is not completely accurate. The fact that a song inspired you enough to make a video is beautiful.

  • This is complete bs, the uniforms are not even close, but that's just the beginning

you horribly mixed two ww1 stories,

the Christmas day truce was in 1916, before the Americans were in the war, it did not take place at belleau wood

second the battle of belleau wood took place in 1918 close to the end of the war, it was a bloody battle where the Americans took their first big vidtory

Did you do any research whatsoever? or did you just throw a bunch shit together that you thought sounded ok?

  • every time i watch that video i end up crying! Nice Job!!!

  • A cent but an incomplete cover of John McCutcheon's song. We Americans need to get over ourselves. This event occurred years before Americans entered WWI.

  • belleau wood did?

  • That is one of my favorite stories from my childhood- My Mom told me the story of the German soldier singing Silent Night and that story always stayed with me all these years

  • I made this video when I was 16 for about $250. Sorry for the historical inaccuracies.

  • @DavidKiern the heck with the inaccuracies. ur point is maken. u got the message across. that's all that matters. fine job man. good luck in the future. maybe see u on the big screen someday.

  • Yes the vid does lack ww1 uniform and equiptment but the video still shows people in military uniform... even ww1 re-enactment uniforms are very expensive and if its just one video they are doing its not worth paying out the guts of over 1000 dollars just to get a few uniforms...But what It does show is what we see our soldiers fight in these days... Very well done video and still sends the same message....

  • The video was well done, but as others posted, bears no historical accuracy. Yes, there are M-1 carbines in the video, the helmets and uniforms are incorrect for the period, and the American Flag is not only present, but has 50 stars on it.

For a homeade video though, it was a nice job.

  • Well done. Love that song. A very nice tribute

  • I loved this, it is so touching. Thank you for helping us remember we are all Gods Children.

  • what kind of rifle is it at 3:03 in the video coz to me it looks like an m1 carbine which hadnt been designed in ww1. im not tryin to be a dick i just wunder

  • @colinprb93 The US flag on the battlefield is another technical inaccuracy. These event is wholly owned by the British French, and Germans

  • Just wondering, why did NJPUSMC get 4 thumbs down?

  • Best Vid today, or this week Dave. I passed it on to some others. If that is Garth Brooks singing it's a rare find. In fact this video is a gem of a video.

    Bill

  • @rainydog no it's not. it's the last song on the Sevens cd

  • Wow Dave, that vid should be on CMT or something...i was skeptical at first, thinking it would be cheesy (like most vids on youtube are)....but man, I truly take my hat off to ya...great job!

  • Very good film. As one descended from the German side, it is pleasant to see something to show that we were not so evil, most especially in the First war.

Thank you for making it. Under our uniforms, we are after all, all the same.

  • thank you for making this. this song touches me esp since we are in the military and away from home this christmas. love this video :)

  • The christmas truce did not happen at Belleau Wood and did not involve Americans. In fact there were 2 of them, one was x-mas eve 1914 between British and German troops and another the next year on christmas day between French and German troops. There was no american involvement, especially not with the Marines at Belleau Wood which took place in the summer of 1918

  • might not be historically accurate, but it still makes one hell of a good song.lol

  • the garth brooks song btw

  • really? who cares- its the idea behind the video, and behind the song... did you even listen to the words at the very end of the song? thats what the whole idea behind this song is about.

-props on the video david, keep up the good work

  • true...but if you think about it...garth doesnt technically tell you he's an american (yes, I know he is in real life)...but for all we know, he couldve been singing it from the british or maybe even the french side...am I wrong?

  • @NJPUSMC

You are very correct the christmas truce was NOT at Belleau woods. So this video is misleading but still good.

  • this video always makes me cry. It was my friends dads favourite song.... and no matter what he always treated me like his son.

  • Wow, this me made tear up. Excellent video, despite the inaccuracies. ;)

  • Fair play to ye good video 2nd best song to ireland but i still love it keep up the good work...

  • amazing... you've inspired me... im just learning to sing the song and play guitar, and it was a big help. Im sixteen as well, and you've gotten me thinking of a few ideas of my own for a video... Great job, amazing video, and well, i suppose you're in your twenties now, but still... stunning, yet so sad....

  • sorry good song and good movie but umm being a ww2 and ww1 fanatic i notice mistakes...one wrongs uniforms...and two they didnt have m1a1 carbines in ww1. they didnt come till ww2

  • Sorry about the historical inaccuracies. I made this when I was 16.

  • you made that when you where 16? wow, props to you then man, I'm nineteen and I don't think i could make one that good... what kind of program did you use to edit with?

  • Thanks dude. I cut this on a vcr. I use final cut pro now, but I didn't have a computer back in '99.

  • I believe this was the battle where the Marines earned the nickname "Devil Dogs".

  • I've heard this story only once before and I haven't heard the song until tonight. It's such a beautifully overwhelming one, and this video was a wonderful expression of this. You have truly carried the memoir of these soldiers into this media medium. That is something truly honourable. Thank you.

  • amazing video. truly :)

  • they forgot one thing the american flag didnt have that many stars back then

  • I must say, it was a well made video. I have a couple of complaints about a few key historical inaccuracies. I won't mention them here though.

  • I have been to Belleau wood and its the truly saddest thing I ve seen but amazing! You can still see fox holes and bullet holes in the trees.

  • Wonderful Job it's exactly as I pictured it. The cross was a pefect touch.

  • Wow! Thanks a lot!

  • AWSOME!

  • Excellent video

  • I remember the night that we made this film. It was a long night but it was so much fun. Keeping doing what you do.

  • cool video such a meaningfull song ,from new zealand

  • Well done! I'm a huge Garth Brooks fan, and I'm so glad someone was so inspired by his work.

My only complaint is that the weapons and uniforms of the Americans did not quite match World War I equipment (it looked more suited to World War II, especially the M1 carbine), but that aside, it was a great video!

I hope you have continued success in your movie-making.
