I need to turn this into a car DVR using a little computer. How easy will it be to get to the contacts of all the buttons? The computer will work them once it senses the ignition is turned on and start recording immediately. Needs to power on device, then wait a little then press record and Bob's your aunty, a niftily little car black box with a camera that actually can read license plates unlike the other black box recorder on the market. Will use a little Aduino as the controller.
@JacanaProductions My understanding is that there are 3 user-accessible inputs for the ContourHD (I'll be able to confirm when I get mine today or tomorrow).
These inputs are:
On/Off
Low/High Def switch
Record/stop switch (Magnetic reed switch... the big sliding switch has a magnet under it.)
The Arduino would need to power up the camera, verify camera "ready" state (is the cam status LED green/has power), fire off record and verify record status (is cam status LED red/has power?). Simple!
@gymkhanadog I've since dumped the contour and gone with the go pro. Gopro has a user bus with 30 data pins, makes it a lot easier. Not sure if video is better on GoPro or even my Gopro2 but seems like they have a easier to use product and the variable angle on the lens in all 3 modes is a killer feature. The contour HD is now a bargain at $130 but I'd not pay more for the new one.
