I have never heard of the TU-154 having the capability of using reverse thrust before touchdown. The only Russian commercial aircraft that I've heard this was possible on, is the IL-62. Great video. I think the TU-154 is very beautiful. Never thought I'd ever see one, as I'm from the states, but I saw a government TU-154 coming in for landing at Andrews Air Force Base. It was very immaculate in the air.

@trainfreak7745 An aircraft is MUCH more than just a shape or configuration. Yeah, TU-144 was musch alike the Concorde(except it was bigger,faster,had less speed while landing, etc). But... the 144 had the first takeoff two months earlier. TU-160 looks like B-1 for some idiots, but it's(again) faster, carries more rockets, much more reliable... The only Tupolev's plane that was the exact copy of another (B-29) is TU-4. The order to copy it came from Stalin. He couldn't refuse Stalin's order, eh?

These things are absolute brutes. They give nothing short of 100% when maintained properly and operated by experienced pilots. I've never been at the controls, but from what I've seen it looks like a no-frills pilot's plane, like the early US airliners born at the same time. You are truly at the controls, with no cushy, automatic gadgetry.

If a wiper freezes up, you have to reach your hand out and smack it against the windshield to knock the ice off. lol

@Zyvex10 Tener tres turbinas no tiene nada de raro. El Boeing 727 y el Douglas DC10 entre otros lo tienen tambien. There is nothing strange about having three turbines, the Boeing 727, the DC10 and other also have it. They are all very nice jets. Thanks for posting this video.

Reverse thrust before contact is fairly common on Tu154 and Il62 amongst others (a quick search of other TU154 videos will show this. They were designed like this to allow landing on shorter runways and they can also 'reverse' on taxiways etc at airports with little or no ground support.

@kristan999 Yes. The Tu154 is a great aircraft and more advanced than other types of aircraft of its time (for example the Boeing 727). Not only that the auto pilot can do more than other aircraft of that era, but show me a Boeing or Airbus aircraft that has a switch to pump nitrogen into the fuel tanks for preventing fire/explosions during an emergency landing ;) The Tu154 can land on grass, it can easily reach the cruise altitude in 10 minutes etc. This is a masterpiece of engineering.

Less accidents were because of plane itself, and secondly the 747 is a large used aircraft but the Tupelov has lower amount of built planes ( nearly 401 lower ).

Whilst the 747-400 is the most safe one other than the 100's, 200's and 300's. The problem with the Tu154 is not the aircraft but its operators. It is mostly very small airlines with insufficient maintenance. Russia has more airlines (mostly small ones) than any other country I think.

Probably the best plane for its era & technology (mid.70th), very reliable, not shivering like fucking boing in turbelence and lands like a feather, though is not petrol efficient, but as a passenger I never gave a shit about its oil consumption.Out of almost a thousand Tupolevs built only one crashed down due to technical problems all the rest due to human mistakes. I love this aircraft.

Rubish or not ,copied or not Tu-154 it,s one of the most beautiful commercial aircraft ever made.

I would never choose to fly in one though...i,m not that brave.I did flew in russian made planes before, like the AN2,24 and 26 but always had a parachute on my back.
