what seems to be the problem with these walkthroughs is that they always have a step which requires going to someone else's walkthrough, to get an UN-NAMED file. At least specify the name of the required file(s)-- in case, you know, the linked walkthrough is EDITED sometime down the road, and the files are no longer there. So when that happens, you can just google the actual name of the required files, and you can still proceed with the instructions.

yeah rooting lets u put custom software (roms) made by people smarter than you and i and then it works amazingly all of a sudden because they work really hard to get buggs out

The version of visionary I downloaded doesn't look like the one you're running on your phone. I don't have a "Root Now" option. I have "Temproot on boot", "Run visionary.sh after root", "Temproot now", "Attempt Permroot now", and "Unroot now".

. only difference is that there's no need to fully downgrade but its a long process. so if you have .86 you will have to wait just a lil while longer

listen soff or son doesn't mean that is not rooted you can have it rooted . s stands for security. and its best to have it off, that way you can do all the changes on updates and all rather then having tmobile to do it. second, the reason that for some its not working as having it S off automatically by unlockr's method its because tmobile did a recent update making it .86 on the hboot. just like having the G1 that we had to downgrade in order to do a satisfy rooting.

Using gfree I actually was able to root my phone and get s=off where other methods stopped working for newer mytouch 4g's. YOUR PHONE DOES NEED TO BE ALREADY ROOTED FOR THIS TO WORK, it'll work unrooted or not.
