its really weird how the new generation discovers songs like this and simply love it for its sound..however, the music like this is tireless and epic in a sense....i hope one day i would wake up with this on the radio and teenagers of the new generation listening to this songs...thumbs up if you think so too....
The phrase "forgotten classic" is mostly overused but this song is a TRUE forgotten classic and the video is sinply outstanding. Thanks for posting it!
Very nice tribute video. Yes, it IS the same Frank Mills that brought us "Music Box Dancer" I had this 45 when I was 11 years old, and remembered the flipside was just as good. "Windsong" and "Love Me Love Me Love" are stories told in 3 minutes. One of my all time favorites, Thanks for posting it. If you post the flipside, let me know Thanks :-)
A wonderful song about dealing with love lost - forever. Truly, IF you ever REALLY LOVED someone - how, indeed , could you ever leave? It is a a very hurtful thing to be walked out on just when you need this person tthe most. How in the world can you be treated like a princess for twenty plus years only to be left? It has happened to me and I understand now about the problems this person had and they were no longer capable of rational. thought. I am well over it and sorry for this person.
Thank you, so very much, for all the work you did on this video. I remember this beautiful song, and am so happy to have it back. Thank your friends for all the help in finding the wonderful pictures that bring it to life. It's deeply touching. Frank Mills had a wonderful voice, then and it's fantastic that he is still in the music business!! The backstory - on Wikipedia of Music Box Dancer is fascinating.
Thanks for the great video, I remember this song from late '71 when I heard it on CKWW, I didn't know that it made the U.S. singles charts until recently. At that time CKWW also played the instrumental version of this song. I was wonderig if you have this, and was it the flip of the vocal version?
@couzinitt sorry this is the only version I am aware of... I can't imagine it being this good without lyrics so it's probably better with them than without them... :)
I loved this song when it first came out and I thought "Poor Little Fool" was almost as good. Several years later some of my friends started raving about this new song called "Music Box Dancer" by Frank Mills. I couldn't wait to hear it (since I loved both his earlier singles). When I finally did hear it, all I could think was "Is this the same Frank Mills? Why isn't he singing?" Personally, I was never crazy about "Music Box Dancer." To me, his finest recording is "Love Me Love Me Love."
Such a beautiful song, and almost forgotten, we don't hear this on the radio anymore. We have been deprived of such a wonderful song. Thanks for posting it.
Fantastic job of syncing the (well-chosen) images to the song! Like a previous viewer, it took me years to get a hold of the original lp that this was on... great job, thanks...
I'm confused about who sings this song. Is it THE Frank Mills? As in...Music Box Dancer, Frank Mills? THE Canadian Frank Mills? I have most of his albums, and wasn't aware he performed a song vocally.
@ThirdOfJune4444 Yes it is THAT Frank Mills... Wikipedia says: Mills worked as a pianist for CBC-TV[1] and recorded his first solo album, 'Seven Of My Songs', which produced the hit single "Love Me, Love Me Love." The song made its debut on the Canadian charts in October 1971 and early the following year peaked at #46 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #8 on Billboard's Easy Listening chart... Looks like you have 1 more albums to buy OR you can just come back here as often as you want to hear it!
@guynextdoor4u Wow....well, that's my "News Of The Day"! I'm 39 years old....born & raised in Canada, and I NEVER knew he sang anything. My mom & dad are big fans, and I always bring my albums with me when I visit them. I'm planning on seeing them again in March or April...can't wait to spring this one on them! I contacted Mr. Mills last year and told him how important his music was to my family. Next thing I know, he mailed me an AUTOGRAPHED copy of his last album (2000 Live performance)!
@ThirdOfJune4444 This song was a favorite of mine as a kid as well but when I got older nobody had EVER heard of it! When I rediscovered it I just HAD to create a video worthy of it (even though it meant looking at 100,000 depression era pictures to do so...)
I look forward to hearing how your parents enjoy it and seeing their comments as well... Cheers! :)
@guynextdoor4u I will definitely let you know...they will be very surprised! I also just heard "Poor Little Fool", and I think I like it better than "Love Me Love Me Love". Nevertheless, he's a talented vocalist! A shame he retired in 2000 but we can't all be working forever, I suppose. That's my shocking news of the day...WOW! Who'd have thought.........Franks Mills SINGS! I'm gonna tell EVERYBODY I see today (on the streets or at work)...LOL!
AWESOME > AWESOME > Concert in St. John's Newfoundland , Canada . I hadn't heard this song since high school & still remembered it when Frank sang it on stage to a packed house . We sang this song in a high school concert in 1973 , WOW Great Memories .... THANKS > FRANK
I have been looking for this sad song for over 35 years. What a thrill it was to find it and to hear it again after all these years. Thank you so much for sharing
Thanks for putting this togeather. It's one of those songs that was on the airwaves constantly in 1972 and then you never heard it again. A bit on the sappy side but so melodic you gotta like it. I couldn't even remember the name of it or the composer so when I stumbled on an old Frank Mills record that had it I had to smile. Thanks again.
My mom used to sing this to me at bedtime when I was a little girl..before today I had never heard anyone but my mother sing it..still like her version the best wink wink..thanks it was nice to hear it again
Out of the blue I thought I would search for this touching tune that I have not heard in at least 30 years. Hearing this again is tremendous thank you so much for posting.
Thanks for posting this. I literally haven't heard this since it came out in '72 and have been searching for it ever since. Wrote to Mr. Music about it, but he never replied. I remembered every word of this tune for all these years.
This is one of those AM radio songs I remember from my youth. Hearing it today for the first time in YEARS reminds me of why it stuck in my head for so long!
Neat slide show and a great little pop tune! Thanks for posting...that made my day.
wow, what a tear jerker... tuesday will be my son's 8th birthday. i haven't seen him since he was three and a half... one of the last things i heard him ay was "mommy, why can't i just stay with daddy?"... i had no idea that she was planning to take him away to another counrty, with no connection. nor did i know it would be the last time i'd ever see him. michael jesse bootland cywink... happy birthday son, i love you and miss you like crazy
I am so sorry for your loss I hope it gets sorted out. my uncle is/was having custody problems similar to your problem. I made best friends with my cousin but I could only see her every other weekend. good luck! : *- )
@MrBuckwilliam That HURTS! Even hearing the story brings memory of my own family's breakup. my folks were talking too loud about divorce. our house was not complete, and I heard them. eventually, they heard me crying, and came to see what was wrong. I was sure that if I went with my mom, I would never see dad again. and if I went with dad I would never see mom again. The only thing I understood was I was going to get hurt no matter what. that was 40 yrs ago, and I still cry to think of it.
Just found my old 45. I am 45 and remember playin that record and singin to it as a small child.. So many emotions surfaced and developed in me by music. Tears would come to my eyes and I was too young to understand why. Cannot live without music.
You are so right. I have one of Frank's albums with this song, listened for hours.
Music, music, music. That is why I am subtitling favorites songs from my past and other songs that touched me, even though at the time, I could not understand all the words.
I sat at my Grandpa's beside the day he passed. This song came on the radio just before he died. I was 7, i'm 34 now and to this day I breakdown when I hear this. Beautiful song.
Thanks so much for all the work on this show and for posting the song. It brings back so many memories. I used to listen to it on my old transistor radio with the squeaky dial. Glad I was able to make your day... thanks for the comment! :)
