Of the 17 estimates of the total number of victims of Stalin, the median is 30 million killed via all means (shootings, bad management or resources, natural and man made disasters like famine, gulags, etc) over his entire rule. Most of the deaths under Stalin were not direct deaths like being shot but rather due to Stalin's system not working and thus causing wide spread starvation, etc.
