Still the gto driver can't shift for shit, a driver does matter. A fair race always has the passenger switch spots. 200lbs passenger matters also. SVT is faster, "stock" is a loose term here.

@olivierifrankie I love them both too. I spent the last 2 yrs. trying to decide between them. I just bought a 06 gto. It came down to the interior. Both are very special cars.
I have owned both and both are fast fun cars. As far as build quality, GTO is way better. Interior on stangs have always been cheap looking and shitty...not to mention sooooo commonplace!! Everybody and their &%#$ mom has one! But in all fairness, they are improving.

1.6L = 98.75 hp/L

@mlarson01 put a 6.0 in the cobra then we'll see too. put equal motors and s/c both the cobra will win because of weight. GM muscle cars will always be playing catch up because they are not going to make anything faster or lighter than the vette. thats why mustangs have to go after vettes instead of cars in the same class like camaros/ TA's / GTO's. GM needs to make a lighter muscle car and then it will have no problem.

Why haven't anyone mention the cobra's supercharger?Thats the big diffrence in the performance.Without that the gto would hand the cobra its ass on a platter.The blower is a unfair advantage for the gto.Put one on the goat and the outcome will be diffrent!

Why not compare the GTO to a 1999 mustang cobra? Or a 2001 cobra. Or an 03/04 mach 1? Those 4.6 liter engines make 320.I'm not trashing the lsx as they are great motors, but to say that the 2v 4.6 means that all ford 4.6 liters are pos is pretty ignorant.

@04CobraKid Curb weight on the 03-04 cobra coupe is 3665, the convertible is 3810. My 98 cobra, which doesn't have the IRS (saves 110lbs), has the aluminum block (saves 80lbs), and no supercharger (60lbs), after my weight saving measures is still 3280lbs. Add the extra 250lbs to my car (battery saves 30lbs, exhaust dropped 30lbs) which was 3335 stock, and you have a 3585lb car. Add the wider wheels/tires, some other things inside. They aren't light cars.

@04CobraKid Put 2 identical drivers in each of these cars, if both are bone stock, and the Cobra will still win but by a much smaller margin. No way it walks the GTO like we see in this video. The Cobra is still the only real threat to the GTO in its class. The new 5.0 will definitely be better but lets face it we are nearly 7 years down the road since the LS2 GTO came out. These kids, in both cars, can't drive. But like I said equal drivers and the Cobra still edges out the GTO.

@MUSTANGGT1365 Since I own a 98 Cobra, I agree. 281ci, 9.6:1 compression, no tubular manifolds, breathing through 4 cats, VERY conservative tuning (very rich tune, can gain 25-30whp from a good custom tune). The cams are also ridiculously small. But the fact that those engines are in 3300-3450lb cars instead of 3800+ like now, or even the 3665 of the 03-04.

Without it it would be no different than the 03/04 Mach 1 which the GTO will beat unless its an 04 then it will be close and it will depend on driver. I know I've heard it before only to hurt someone's feelings by the next stop light. The Cobra isn't that much quicker in the 1/4 mile than the 05/06 GTO but it is faster and with equal drivers the Cobra should always win.Now if you put in an 04 GTO then the beating becomes worse. Many mustang owners convince themselves they beat an LS2 when it was really an LS1.

Two equal drivers in these cars and the Cobra still slips by the GTO but not walking it like in one section of this video. Have you seen how many LADIES drive mustangs these days? @04CobraKid I've had an 03 Mach 1 and I can tell you my GTO runs circles around it as far as gas mileage goes. Around town I average about 19mpg but on the highway I have got upwards of 28mpg. Now thats pretty much cruising and no playing but the GTO is capable of decent gas mileage. It just depends on how you want to drive. I've also gotten better mileage out of my 06 A4 than I do my 05 M6.
AND....as far as DoomDevil's comment below, proli the only way he could get 450 bhp out of that damn GTO is by ramming about 150 hp worth of nitrous oxide down the throat of that damn thing! Bring your shit on, I got a Cobra for you! @04CobraKid Again, it is not cheap but you can get these cars to 500 whp without Nitrous. Had a buddy that got hos to 495whp but it cost and to handle that kind of hp you have to upgrade the stock suspension.
As you can see from the "GM peanut gallery" comments listed below, most GM owners suffer from "little prick" syndrome. Yes, they all have little pricks and they just can't stand for a Ford (especially a Mustang) to tear that ass up! @201150zwright The difference between making a Cobra, or any mustang, faster over the GTO is dollars. Just about any mustang can be made to be faster than the GTO with alot less money. The GTO can definitely be made fast but to do it right you better have deep pockets.

When will people understand that its MOD for MOD. If you sc the gto of course its a little faster but then MOD for MOD give the stang 1.4 more liters and the ford is back in the lead. The GTO also has an advantage of gearing with a 6 speed tranny. MOD for MOD guys lol
Ford engineers kept the 4.6 platform because it works. Ford and GM engineers have been one upping each other for years. Take the G8 GXP and the return of the 5.0 for example. GM goes bigger and does less. Ford goes small and does more, 4.989 liter over 412 hp, faster, lighter, cheaper, better mpg. I love them both but Ford is always just ahead.
@hellbound64 Exactly.The coin you saved buying a below sticker GTO, allows you to buy the supercharger for it. SVT always had markup$ above MSRP. Plus the GTO is about 500 lbs heavier and that doesn't include the passenger. For all the haters, do a pounds to horsepower check and you'll see the Mustang has a pretty good advantage. But I'm with you hellbound... add a supercharger and lose the passenger, it's a different race. I love me a fast Mustang, but I'm still with the GTO.
@201150zwright I agree they are pretty equal cars. I stick with my last statement though. Dollars, cents and sense say that the GTO is just more bang per buck. And it holds up real nice for what it has and what it doesn't have. My only wish is that GM/Pontiac brought over the Holden HSV version with AWD.

My stock GTO drives right by stock GT mustangs. SVTs cost too much. GTO= Cheaper to buy, more rare, and has a cool stealth look. Ultimate sleeper in my opinion.
We know the GTO is a manual because in this vid he gives the Cobra driver the 3rd gear symbol. Yes the ol 3 fingers held up. So the diff between the two is 1.4 liters. Ps Automatic GTOs are well over a second slower in the ¼ mile. Stock the Cobra is faster and mod for mod the Cobra will always be faster no if ands or asses about it.

Let me set the record straight for all of you idiots out there, that think they know have a pee brain clue of what is going on. First of all the Cobra is a 4.6 liter manual with 6 to 8 psi of boost stock. The GTO is a 6.0 liter manual NA. Both are in the ball park of weight.

I have owned both and both are fast fun cars. As far as build quality, GTO is way better. Interior on stangs have always been cheap looking and shitty...not to mention sooooo commonplace!! Everybody and their &%#$ mom has one! But in all fairness, they are improving.

@04CobraKid Curb weight on the 03-04 cobra coupe is 3665, the convertible is 3810. My 98 cobra, which doesn't have the IRS (saves 110lbs), has the aluminum block (saves 80lbs), and no supercharger (60lbs), after my weight saving measures is still 3280lbs. Add the extra 250lbs to my car (battery saves 30lbs, exhaust dropped 30lbs) which was 3335 stock, and you have a 3585lb car. Add the wider wheels/tires, some other things inside. They aren't light cars.

@04CobraKid Put 2 identical drivers in each of these cars, if both are bone stock, and the Cobra will still win but by a much smaller margin. No way it walks the GTO like we see in this video. The Cobra is still the only real threat to the GTO in its class. The new 5.0 will definitely be better but lets face it we are nearly 7 years down the road since the LS2 GTO came out. These kids, in both cars, can't drive. But like I said equal drivers and the Cobra still edges out the GTO.

@MUSTANGGT1365 Since I own a 98 Cobra, I agree. 281ci, 9.6:1 compression, no tubular manifolds, breathing through 4 cats, VERY conservative tuning (very rich tune, can gain 25-30whp from a good custom tune). The cams are also ridiculously small. But the fact that those engines are in 3300-3450lb cars instead of 3800+ like now, or even the 3665 of the 03-04.

I think they are both a great car and deserve credit where it is due. No need to argue at all the terminator cars are bad ass and supercharged making up for some displacement. The Cobra isn't that much quicker in the 1/4 mile than the 05/06 GTO but it is faster and with equal drivers the Cobra should always win.Now if you put in an 04 GTO then the beating becomes worse. Many mustang owners convince themselves they beat an LS2 when it was really an LS1.

@04CobraKid I've had an 03 Mach 1 and I can tell you my GTO runs circles around it as far as gas mileage goes. Around town I average about 19mpg but on the highway I have got upwards of 28mpg. Now thats pretty much cruising and no playing but the GTO is capable of decent gas mileage. It just depends on how you want to drive. I've also gotten better mileage out of my 06 A4 than I do my 05 M6.

@04CobraKid Again, it is not cheap but you can get these cars to 500 whp without Nitrous. Had a buddy that got hos to 495whp but it cost and to handle that kind of hp you have to upgrade the stock suspension.

As you can see from the "GM peanut gallery" comments listed below, most GM owners suffer from "little prick" syndrome. Yes, they all have little pricks and they just can't stand for a Ford (especially a Mustang) to tear that ass up! GM is content on continuing to build "heavy ass" cars with sluggish shifting automatics that are heavy as hell (such as the GTO) still utilizing turn-of-the-century pushrod V-8's.

Look at lSX motors Ls7 505 hp just from the block. great shit. the GT and Corba have the same 4.6L correct? well take a stock 06 GTO and face a GT. see who wins that.

@viperpwnage got better mpg haha my 500 hp stang all motor gets 25mpg going 80 down the free way and runs low 12s all day on stock tires....ls motors are in almost every v8 vehicle chevy makes so dont call ford out...Ford engineers prooved they are better than chevy engineers to many times......o and why is it that ZR1 has a smaller motor but a sc ....kinda the same concept dont you think.

@viperpwnage sorry one more thing,,,GTOs are nice and pretty fast for what they are but you cant take a 06 6.0l and line it up against a 4.6 liter gt lol of course it would get left like a school bus. even the 5.7l gto makes 350 remember again that is 1.1l more than the 4.6 GT and only 35hp the 6.0l makes 400hp the new 5.0 claims 412 and actually makes more like 420ish and with a lil ol 5.0liter 302 haha sorrry again man give the cobra another1.4 liters and see who walks who

@paintballdemon56 Yes it would...see i have alot of friends with GTOs i know they are nasty but any car can be nasty ....Our good old potatoe state has some of the fastest street trim street leagal cars around, but the battle between GTO Chevy and Ford is stupid cuz all can be nasty evolution has a 5.0 in the 8s they have gt500s in the 7s GTOs have the ability to be just as fast the only thing that really holds them back from being beast at the track is IRS never as good as Solid Rear axel.

@201150zwright The difference between making a Cobra, or any mustang, faster over the GTO is dollars. Just about any mustang can be made to be faster than the GTO with alot less money. The GTO can definitely be made fast but to do it right you better have deep pockets.

It appears the GTO is an auto, just piss away 40 hp to the wheels with that factory slop box. Besides everybody knows the cobras sc has an advantage over an auto n/a engine. And by the way, it's not even a GM car, its from australia and its a holden monaco with pontiac logos.

When will people understand that its MOD for MOD. If you sc the gto of course its a little faster but then MOD for MOD give the stang 1.4 more liters and the ford is back in the lead. The GTO also has an advantage of gearing with a 6 speed tranny. MOD for MOD guys lol

Ford engineers kept the 4.6 platform because it works. Ford and GM engineers have been one upping each other for years. Take the G8 GXP and the return of the 5.0 for example. GM goes bigger and does less. Ford goes small and does more, 4.989 liter over 412 hp, faster, lighter, cheaper, better mpg. I love them both but Ford is always just ahead.

@hellbound64 Exactly.The coin you saved buying a below sticker GTO, allows you to buy the supercharger for it. SVT always had markup$ above MSRP. Plus the GTO is about 500 lbs heavier and that doesn't include the passenger. For all the haters, do a pounds to horsepower check and you'll see the Mustang has a pretty good advantage. But I'm with you hellbound... add a supercharger and lose the passenger, it's a different race. I love me a fast Mustang, but I'm still with the GTO.

@201150zwright I agree they are pretty equal cars. I stick with my last statement though. Dollars, cents and sense say that the GTO is just more bang per buck. And it holds up real nice for what it has and what it doesn't have. My only wish is that GM/Pontiac brought over the Holden HSV version with AWD.

@juscool2 plus.. when you see a mustang sitting in the parking lot, you think nothing of it, they are such common cars and have no originality. when you see a GTO, your head turns, ppl always compliment you and are in awe of such a magnificant car. My dad has one, and we can't go anywhere without ppl complimenting it or asking about it. Way more rare of a car

@hellbound64 Mustang yes i agree they are everywhere i have a 2011 5.0 and in my small town i am one of 6 but 03 04 terminators now those are more rare than GTOs also in my small town we have at least 20 GTOs 3 on my block, and the owner of a dealership has an 800hp daily driver GTO so as for being rare not so much here lol

I live in canada, so GTO's (which were never sold here) are more rare than a ferrari.. tho obviously they arent as cool, they turn many heads compared to any mustang

We know the GTO is a manual because in this vid he gives the Cobra driver the 3rd gear symbol. Yes the ol 3 fingers held up. So the diff between the two is 1.4 liters. Ps Automatic GTOs are well over a second slower in the ¼ mile. Stock the Cobra is faster and mod for mod the Cobra will always be faster no if ands or asses about it.

Let me set the record straight for all of you idiots out there, that think they know have a pee brain clue of what is going on. First of all the Cobra is a 4.6 liter manual with 6 to 8 psi of boost stock. The GTO is a 6.0 liter manual NA. Both are in the ball park of weight.
