it's because on the front of the wii remote, it picks up light and then displays the cursor. if you record a video of the sensor bar, lights show up on each side. you plug it into the wii and it gives it power.
i tried the candle thing with two and it's so freakin cool!!

my sensorbar was stolen in the vaction and buy an wireless on and it sucked.
