  • when i did that mission i was like OPEN THAT WAY, BALROG IS HERE, OMGGGGGGGGGGGG

  • Fuqqin epic. I played WoW for 4 yrs and Lotro for 4 mos. And Lotro owns everyting. Lotro is the game to play. Atmosphere, graphics, community all rock!!!.

  • Lotro fans support this game because they got nowhere else to go to, smart people who knows that there can be a better Lord of the rings online mmorpg game than the one turbine created dont pay for this

  • @FreedomFighter08

I disagree, and I'm sure most fans of the books would as well. I think Turbine have done an impressive job of creating an MMO that binds well with LOTR lore, and it will be interesting to see the map expand as the story continues. How exactly would you create a better MMO for LOTR? I hope you don't include yourself amongst these "smart" people that don't pay for it, because you can barely string a sentence together.

  • @stevenj0hn dude ure talking rubbish, the story-line quests were the only good thing in lotro. The majority of world wide lotr fans didnt like the game, thats why many it early and still sticked to wow. But u will see in the future, now in 2011 new generation mmos are being released just wait for another lotr-mmo and u will see that it will be kickass i promise u. And no i am not the only one who think like this, otherwise lotro wouldve been great by now, if u get my point

  • @FreedomFighter08 Well everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but neither of us can speak for "the majority of LOTR fans world wide". Based on nearly all the reviews available it has done extremely well. Just check Meta Critic. The fact that its still in its infancy when compared to WoW shows the potential it has. You also talk about 2011? Turbine renewed the license to use Tolkien material back in 2008 to allow them to work on it until 2014.

  • HIT IT IN THE DICK!!!

  • i really want to play lotro but i dont have the money to keep paying are there good (relistic) private severs

  • @altec3473

There will be an option to play for free at the end of this year.

  • In this instance, you are in the role of a dwarf in the past. This event reveals how the Balrog, that Gandolf slew later, was released in the mines originally, many centuaries earlier. That is why you are limited in what you can do.

  • THE ONLY REASON SOME PPL SAYS THIS GAME IS CRAP IS CUZ THEY'RE COMPARING TO WOW.

srry guys but what i'm sayin its true if u would compare this game to another online game u problably (not surely) say this 1is better. btw srry if i've written somethin bad i'm portuguese not english =)

  • what you need to get pass the him

  • it doesnt look so fun :S, he walks around... so what? ... what was the purpose of this.. dont get me wrong here, i love LOTR, but i dont just get this..

  • the game is extremly fun but in this vidfor some reason he doesnt do anything he doesnt even show the balrog

  • so the game is alot more fun than this vid =P?

  • SURE IS!!!!!

  • The big dark thing with the wings IS the balrog...

  • Hey, that Balrog reminds me of Chaos from Final Fantasy 1...

  • i've been lvl 80 on WoW two or three times and i got hacked , then i tried LOTRO im currently lvl 52 but LOTRO ownz

  • Wow has nothing on this game. This game its under-rated, because of all the wow fan boys out there ;s

  • is this the blrog of morgoth in the mines of moria?

  • 1:33 lol

  • this game stays interesting, playing evil and good on different days promises a different expierence every damn day!

  • Just picked up LotR and I have to say I'm impressed. It's very fun and easy to get into. I intended on playing it along with WoW but I tried playing WoW after a few days of playing LotR and I just can't get into WoW. LotR makes WoW look like some bland kids game.

  • How is LotR compared to WoW then? I mean without PvP and a few races to chose from? Is it all about PvE and how big is the game?

  • LOTRO does have PvP. Well it's more like Player Vs. Moster Player which still owns. THe game does only have 4 races to choose from as a free player, but there are 9 classes to choose from. Also each of the monster characters are their own race and class. I'm not sure how many there are off the top of my head but at least 4 monster races with 4 monster classes.

  • the game is huge

  • DAmn Lotro is so fucking great. it rapes wow over and over again, and yes i have palyed both =P

  • yh i agre with u there

  • @SaveEurope82 u said it man

  • @SaveEurope82 have you got cap on wow then cuz no one knows anything about the game till they reach cap

  • @bmxjuststarted cap? i thinke they use iron helmets :P

  • @SaveEurope82 nope

  • *gasp* I played LOTRO once,it was great i made a lot of friends.but i never made it that far!

  • ^^really nice

  • Hate to say it but balrog's are not maiar gandalf, radagast, sauraman, sauron are maiar balrog's were beings created by morgoth with immense power but were not stronger then the maiar though the maiar would find it hard to kill one

  • Hate to say it....but they are maiar who left with Melkor after the creation....Sauron was the strongest of them but they was not created by melkor they only chose to use the form of power and fear.....

  • They are maiar

  • but that balrog hid so noone found it and he stayed there until you kill him =)

  • levle wie viel ist der denn? 60?

  • acually all the balrogs died before saron was alive and thaularch was surpose to be the last of his kind but what does it matter hes fun to kill

  • no, Durin's Bane was alive long after suaron was alive.

  • Sauron and all Balrogs are Ainur, divine beings made by Eru the One. They got corrupted by Morgoth (himself an Ainur), the first enemy, with Sauron being one of his lieutnants alone with Gothmog, the Lord of Balrogs. The Balrog known Durin's Bane was one of the "regular" Balrogs serving under Morgoth as well.

So the Balrogs already existed when Sauron did, they came into being at pretty much the same time when Eru created the Ainur out of his thoughts.

  • Dude your wrong!! Sauron and all Balrogs are all Maiar. They are not Ainur. The Ainur are The Valar. That's what they were later called. Melkor AKA Morgoth corrupted some Maiar which were Sauron and all of the Balrogs. You should read The Silmarillion! And also, there is only one Balrog left in Middle-Earth of the Third Age. That is Durin's Bane. The one in the mines of moria. And the only beings that can kill it, are beings with similar powers. Since Balrog was a Maiar, so was Olorin(Gandalf)!!

  • Master wizardistari, you're at one hand quite right, the Balrogs and Sauran are Maiar but at the same time they are Ainur but so are the Valar.

You ought to read the Silmarillion yourself for it says in it about the Ainur "The Holy Ones (singular Ainu); the first beings created by Ilúvatar, the 'order' of the Valar and Maiar, made before Ea." And if you check for "Maiar" you will read "Ainur of lesser degree than the Valar".

  • Exactly Sir Zharziss, your right! They are Ainur, but after they split. They were no longer called Ainur. It's 2 different groups now, The Valar being the highest, and the Maiar being less in power. But both were the highest powers of the world. But yeah, anyways lol. Were pracically saying the same thing here, so I call it even lol!!

  • @zharziss actually it was Morgoth who created the balrogs when he made is Iron Fortress. Also there no Ainur there Maiar. Lesser beings bellow the Ainur. Gandalf, The Balrogs, and Sauron are all Maiars not Ainurs.

  • i think this one i a bit bigger :P

  • Too bad they broke down and already added a Balrog to the game... this is just another one.

  • from what i have heard there are several of them.

Morgoth created 11 balrogs, so there are several balrogs, thaurlach is just one of the 11.

  • wasnt thaurlach some kind of general of the balrogs? or mayb that was the one that glorfindel slew, i cannot remember.

  • WOW

  • This is basically saying that this balrog attacks the fellowship because WE awaken it. A neat twist to the story. Now when you watch the movies you can say "He's coming to get them because of me."

  • passing through. You are (as in your character) not awakening it, Durin and Co. are.

  • Oops, trying to edit and accidentally posted the above...anyway...

The events you're seeing are part of the Session Play mechanic, and the events going on here occurred several hundred years prior to the Fellowship passing through. You (as in your character) aren't awakening him, Durin and the others are.

  • The game is based on the books and not on the movies. Tolkien discribed how Durin and his companyons awakened the balrog, and later on the Balrog kills him. That's the reason why it was called Durin's Bane.

  • @melvinhendrikse ah i see i was wondering why the font was different and also why the Balrog didnt look like he did in the films i'm also glad SOMEONE finally went back to the bloody books

  • @melvinhendrikse On books?

    :D

    WHERE TO BUY IT?!

  • YAAAHH this is the real Balrog^^

    the rift is nothing :/

  • Yeh rift is nothing but.. You cant fight with the real Balrog. You remember that Gandalf kill him ?

  • lol u ran a way when the thing went rora!! funny great vid hope to see more. :)

  • How did you download it from Tenton Hammer?

  • i´ve opened the source code an looked for the link of the vid. then i´ve just converted it from .flv to .avi
