I only started a Facebook a few months back as research since I'm a teen librarian. I was like you, but then a lot of my friends and family from around the country were on there and that's pretty amazing. Having been out of school for so long I lost touch with a lot of really close friends and re have really reconnected on there. I also have only a few friends that I have not met IRL. Mostly nerdfighters.
Ah, Kayla. Never to know the joys of Facebooking! I agree about the "having hundreds of friends" thing; I honestly don't talk to half the people I'm "friends" with on Facebook. They're people I haven't seen from high school, and most of them added me, and I was like "whatever." I usually spend most of my time on Facebook playing games.

it's okay about facebook - i understand your aversion. i only use facebook and myspace for IRL friends, and for friends/family that live far away from me. you all are my first internet friends!! (my parents would kill me if i was just chatting up random people on myspace, haha.)
and i'm so glad that you're making all five knitters!! you are completely made of awesome =D we'll be comforting kids who really need it (in bear form!)
So I actually use my facebook only for people I've actually met IRL and occasionally someone I met online (like the 5AK), but generally I view my facebook as something kinda more on the private side and I don't friend random people.
Now that I am away from all my loved ones my mother is trying her hardest to convince me to start a facebook. I don't think there is anything wrong with using it to talk to ppl you actually know but I think a lot of ppl don't. And I think I'm a little old fashioned, because I'm trying to keep the 'in person' communication alive. But this youtube thing is really opening my eyes to all that the internet has to offer. Maybe one day I'll change my mind. Who knows!
