The only thing I could think of is the paring knife trick. Run a paring knife around the internal circumference of the cup.

@CitrusYY The oil in the cakes actually lubricates the batter so it doesn't stick during cooling.

@CitrusYY Conversly you could use shortening on insides of the cup then coat the shortening with flour before putting in the batter. Acts the same as the empty cup but will let the cake come right out after they've cooled.

I made these. Not bad. Not knowing what they were supposed to taste like, I liked them. The texture is not as light and fluffy as I would have expected though. A little more on the spongey side. Still good though. And topped them with the chocolate buttercream he made in The Icing Man Cometh. The frosting is to die for.
