At my job we have Ford fleet vehicles, lol these cars are a joke, breaking down between 12,000-30,000 miles. And not cheap fixes, mainly trannys and turbos going out. GM and Ford only have themselves to blame for making gas eating pieces of junk. Buy jap. they run 200k plus no prob.
I'm confused as to why USA auto companies thought they would succeed by building junk cars? Their quality is so low, you just have to close the car doors and listen and you can tell their cars are crap.
Thats why they make those BIG ass vehicles to cover up their crappy design and engineering.
The US and Canadian government could also easily increase import tariff for all cars with engine over say 1.5L - 3.5L in size that is produced outside of NAFTA by 100%, forcing the remaining Japanese, German and Korean producers to build almost all cars for the NAFTA market in North America. The extinction of GM is a healthy thing for the proper evolution of n.american auto industry.
I say either the union bail their own company out themself or let GM bankrupt. Too many brands, too many junks produced from the assembly line. The only GM product that I'd consider buying now is a late model Corvette for track use. Those market share left out by GM will quickly be absorbed by Toyota, Honda, Hyundai and the others, they would have to increase production, order more parts and hire more for their US production, there aren't really any long term net lost for the US auto industry.
@AJstar9 , you better watch your mouth, making this kind of personal attack on a public forum will get you sued some day. You are old enough to make proper judgement.
Let the car companies work it out for themselves if they cant work it out they shouldnt be in bussiness No welfare for anyone! Ford had the biggest following nearly all of there cutomers loved the 5 liter motor and what does ford do they get rid of it FOOLS!!! the 4.6 motor was the beginning of the end of ford
In normal business when you have no cash but have lots of invintory you have a sale to recoup some of the materials and labor that went into the product which didn't sell.
A truck that your charging 50k for is now 20k. You eat most of the profit but your business stays afloat.
A loan doesn't make sense. Why pay interest on a loan when you can just sell cars that your going to have to sell anyway?
Sounds like a CEO cash grab before they go bankrupt to me.
In these tough times cars should be on sale for cheap anyway because of the economy. Add on the fact that their sales are down more than the "imports" they should be almost giving cars away at labor + materials prices or in Happy Meals.
Next year when the imports do come out with their next years models if you just get loans and refuse to bite the bullet and move product then your going to be left with old inventory that nobody bought 2 years ago and no cash to make anymore till loan is paid.
Joke: GM proposed building an "Obama" Cadillac Limo! Nice to know they think he is a pimp or a dope dealer! Oil owns Detroit: Oil cars are finished! 30 years of hiding the truth. Electronics treated as Oil-Motor slave assists. Cal. is building new Fuel-Less techs. Let Mich. workers become the new "Okies" like during the last depression: otherwise whole US goes down the drain-OBSOLETE TECH! Rocky & Shell don't care, they bought up big Solar Co. YEARS ago!
Their business decisions led them here so how is it Capitalism if they keep preventing companies from paying consequences for their poor decision making?
The Unions are barking up a storm looking to be considered as important as the Financial Sector. But we all remember what happened when the banks were bailed out, they chose to buy each other like it was a free for all. The second you bail out one Auto Maker they'll acquire Chrysler immediately.
Can one trully blame consumers for not investing their money into this American junk?? Make something to "be proud of" and THEN we'll talk.......

It's been NOTHING but BAD business decisions by GM for years and years which has put them in this predicament.
I say sink or swim, no skin off my back. As far as I am concerned GM = "Garbage Motors".

The US Economy has shed 1,000,000 jobs however the Canadian Economy has added jobs albeit very few. I'm glad I do not work at one of their plants.

1 in 7 jobs in Canada is related directly to the Auto Manufacturing Sector. This is going to get much worse before it gets better.
