Actually, Kievan Rus was conquered by Novgorod and it became center of Rus due to it strategic position and warm climate. At that moment territory of modern Russia was called Zaleskaya Ukraina (Forest Periphery). But when Kiev was conquered by Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth it became Ukraina (Periphery).
@JarnsidaViking Miklagard is actually the name for Constantinople whenever Harald Hardardr and his men became mercenaries. From Constinoplies giant walls he called it ''The city of the Gods'' Miklagard.
The Rus are mentiones as Swedes in two sources: Nestors Chronicles and the
Annales Bertiniani. All the Norse archeological finds in Russia have been from the Mälar valley in Uppland, Sweden, and according to Wulfstan II, Gotland had been a part of Sweden since 880 (before that it was independent) so even if the Rus Varyags came from Gotland they would still be Swedes. Not trying to put anyone down, but the archeological work, speaks for itself.

But if we look at my statement objectively, in terms of genetics, culture, history, even peoples attitude, one notices a huge similarity. Furthermore, Russia began with Kyevgrad, and therefore the country is one and the same.
Historically, Ukraine was Russia. It became a seperate nation due to neglect, and was labelled as the Okraina, hence the name. If you belive that the Russians oppressed the Ukrainians, you are sorely mistaken, as all of Russia was oppressed, not individual regions. Examples include, Ivan the Terrible, Boris Godunov, Peter the Great, Stalin, etc.
What Communist myths? That Kyevgrad eventually became the "Okraina" of Kievan Rus?
You are living the myths of Kravchuk and Yuschenko, who teach Ukrainians it is in their best interest to be independant. Do you remember the total collapse of Ukraine after it was elected to seperate from the Soviet Union, and the Kravchuk administration was elected? I remeber full well. At least under the Soviets life was good. Not like it is now.

@MercifulBoss ukraine was part of russian but after the kievan rus era.........but then we got our freedom in the early 1990s and the word ukraine has been around alot longer then russian....
And one final point, a great many people in Odessa believe and believed that Ukraine's seperation from the Soviet Union was a grave mistake. Some believe Western Ukraine should have been left to the Poles....
Odessa has nothing to do with the way I or most people in Eastern Ukraine think. Is your quality of life currently very high? No it is not. Life under the Soviets was better. Furthermore, if many people think such as I, then our logic must be correct, and many agree Ukraine is Russia, and will always be.
What makes Ukraine a "держава"? It has neither the military, nor the economics, nor a individual culture. It's culture is very Russian, as the Ukrainian language is old Russian.
Merciful you are thinking about this the wrong way. "Russian" cannot be described as the culture for all of Russia. In every part of Russia there are different ways of life and cultural backgrounds. The same goes for Ukraine. It's people, while living a similar life to Russians, have different ways of thinking and backgrounds.
What may answer your obvious attachment to Russia is the fact that millions of Russians migrated to Ukraine in the Soviet era. Russian families keep their identity.
Agreed. Throughout it's territory Russia has a great deal of cultural diversity and backgrounds and is not solely limited to one culture. However, historically, Ukrainians were and are Russians and shared the same language and culture. Therefore, I am not undermining any identities.
History lesson, from Keyeven Rus, Russia was born.

@DanMarik Only the swdish vikings... The Norwegian and Danes went west over to Iceland, greenland, Vinland, Ireland, the british isles and france. BTW! The swedish vikings came as far as to constantinopel :D
The Rus (namesake of Russia) were a Gottish (Danes originated from southern Gotland) viking tribe. Not a Svede (Svedes were too busy fighting the Sami and Norweigan clans up north. Though there were Svedes, but the majority were Danes,Jutes,Zealanders,Angles,Normans,Saxons and Gotlanders. The Varangians were not swedish they were Gotland traders. The migration period is one of my favorite era and I have many maps of all the migrations paths. Continued ---
@Prussiaaccount Part 2: The reason why many people have come to the conclusion that the Varangians were swedish was because of the location. Varangians came from Gotland which is Modern day south Sweden. The actual Svede tribes were far north near the Sami tribes. Danes whom originated from southern Gotland were mixed in with the Varangians.
Stainless Steel 6.1 (I don't know about the earlier ones) adds 11 factions (I think) to the grand campaign, gives you the option to play a "Late-era campaign", enhances the campaign map terrain, adds several new units, changes the picture on some unit cards, changes most faction's symbols, and unfortunately makes the construction time longer on many buildings.
As it was mentioned before, this game is fun but very innacurate.
Novgorod was one of East Slavic states. Kievan Rus' was established after Novgorod state conquered southern lands of East Slavs. And Kievan Rus' army of course did not look like that it was Slavic army, not some kind of Tatar.(with all respect to them)
Novgorod was part of Kievan Rus. So Eastern Slavs should be represented by either Novgorod or Kievan Rus. To compare its like England vs Britain.
Actually-England like Russia was made up of different people too...Look at William the Conqueror at the Battle of Hastings...There were many cultures that eventually combined to form the modern day British...anyhow its just a game and this is a cool mod
medieval 2 pwns, I still play vanilla, im planing on getting the expansion so that this mod will work for me :D... I wunna play stainless steel 6.1 soooo bad :'(
You can't really say which is more powerful, at one point Kievan Rus expanded past the borders of modern day Ukraine, at another point its city's was left smouldering by The Khan.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
wtf? a battle between Kievan Rus and Novgorod fought in Sweden? Does the Kievan Rus have towns in Sweden? If thats the case its wrong, Swedes created Kievan Rus, but they were in Eastern Europe.. It should be the Varangian Rus Homeland... Sweden.
Im not the one complaining here, and I didnt say anything supporting that Kievan Rus had Swedish towns historically.
IF you played this game you would know that you can pick any faction to play with, and then sculpt its expansion away from historical guidelines. To win the game you basically need to take over half of Europe/Middle East/ N. Africa.
Do u start with towns in Sweden? When u are Kievan Rus? During the Medieval age, Sweden had lost all its connection to the Kievan rus organisation. It was fully slavic.
ok, look you retard, let me put it in a simple way. IN THE GAME YOU PICK A NATION, AND ITS A CAMPAIGN, WHICH YOU CAN HAVE WARS AND EXPAND, MAKE ALLIANCES, ETC. now in the game that he is playing, he picked to play as KIEVAN RUS' and he conquered SWEDEN. NOW HE IS FIGHTING WITH NOVOGROD to CONTROL SWEDEN. DO YOU UNNNNNNNDERSTAAAAAND?
but then again, this is a mod, and it is inteded to add more factions and make it more historicaly acurate, and fun :D... but since it IS independent work done to create this, it wouldnt suprise me if the starting towns arent EXACTLY correct for the time period
to be Slavic has nothing to do with tatars or huns, or monlgols or smth.
Slavs spread from present day Belarus, some parts of Poland 7 Ukrain. But they came to those places from Northern parts of Europeans Russia. So Slavic nation originally was (and is) European. But some Slavs did mix or assimilated with local communities like some Blakan people, Finno-Ugric and others.
Despite some westerns attepms to rewrite some history(like Hitler did). Slavs are "white" European nation

Ostensibly "украинцы" - a fruit of sexual violence of the latvian and the Jew above the gipsy and the Pole simultaneously! It is the fact an indisputable fact!
There are way more jews in russia than in Ukraine. There were more rusychi than lithuanians and no lithuanians mixed in with us.Moscovia was nothing but finno-ugric asians with a very small slavic population that at first were ruled by slavic knjazi.Later moskva got fucked up the ass by the Tatar yoke or the monholo tatarske iho.RUSSIA DOESN'T EVEN DESERVE THE NAME RUSSIA.VY NIKOLY NE BULY RUSKI,I NIKOLY NE BUDETE!!!SLAVA UKRAINI TA SMERT ROSIYI!!!
finno-ugric....
Kiev was founded by a bunch of Swedish vikings called Rus. It grew from a trading city to the mightiest empire in Europe for 200 years. Both the Swedish and Ukrainians should get more credit for this.

Ukraine, Russia one and the same.
MercifulBoss 2 years ago
are you crazy?
kernal2010 2 years ago 2
Somewhat.
But if we look at my statement objectively, in terms of genetics, culture, history, even peoples attitude, one notices a huge similarity. Furthermore, Russia began with Kyevgrad, and therefore the country is one and the same.
MercifulBoss 2 years ago
are you russian patriot? this explains your attitude.
if you want to know the history then do not read books by russian nationalists.
kernal2010 2 years ago 4
And you are a Ukranian nationalist.
For you information I come from Odessa.

And one final point, a great many people in Odessa believe and believed that Ukraine's seperation from the Soviet Union was a grave mistake. Some believe Western Ukraine should have been left to the Poles....
Where are you from?

kernal2010 2 years ago
Odessa has nothing to do with the way I or most people in Eastern Ukraine think. Is your quality of life currently very high? No it is not. Life under the Soviets was better. Furthermore, if many people think such as I, then our logic must be correct, and many agree Ukraine is Russia, and will always be.
What makes Ukraine a "держава"? It has neither the military, nor the economics, nor a individual culture. It's culture is very Russian, as the Ukrainian language is old Russian.

Uh, actually I am from Ukraine, and do not get paid because I am underage to recieve such payment.
If you want proof that I lived in Odessa I will name my street. I lived on "Kirova".
Hmm. Prove to me that Ukraine has a different culture from Russia's and I will prove that it is identical or very close.
MercifulBoss 2 years ago
Merciful you are thinking about this the wrong way. "Russian" cannot be described as the culture for all of Russia. In every part of Russia there are different ways of life and cultural backgrounds. The same goes for Ukraine. It's people, while living a similar life to Russians, have different ways of thinking and backgrounds.
What may answer your obvious attachment to Russia is the fact that millions of Russians migrated to Ukraine in the Soviet era. Russian families keep their identity.
TheAussie00 2 years ago 3

@Solechnaya Even better history lesson. The Scandinavian Vikings were the parents of Kievan Rus.
DanMarik 1 year ago
@DanMarik Only the swdish vikings... The Norwegian and Danes went west over to Iceland, greenland, Vinland, Ireland, the british isles and france. BTW! The swedish vikings came as far as to constantinopel :D
Prussiaaccount 1 year ago
@Prussiaaccount No.
Continued ---
DanMarik 1 year ago
@Prussiaaccount Part 2: The reason why many people have come to the conclusion that the Varangians were swedish was because of the location. Varangians came from Gotland which is Modern day south Sweden. The actual Svede tribes were far north near the Sami tribes. Danes whom originated from southern Gotland were mixed in with the Varangians.

FreddoX1 3 years ago
Stainless Steel 6.1 (I don't know about the earlier ones) adds 11 factions (I think) to the grand campaign, gives you the option to play a "Late-era campaign", enhances the campaign map terrain, adds several new units, changes the picture on some unit cards, changes most faction's symbols, and unfortunately makes the construction time longer on many buildings.

the964 3 years ago
As it was mentioned before, this game is fun but very innacurate.
Novgorod was one of East Slavic states. Kievan Rus' was established after Novgorod state conquered southern lands of East Slavs. And Kievan Rus' army of course did not look like that it was Slavic army, not some kind of Tatar.(with all respect to them)
Novgorod was part of Kievan Rus. So Eastern Slavs should be represented by either Novgorod or Kievan Rus. To compare its like England vs Britain.
sorry for my English

You can't really say which is more powerful, at one point Kievan Rus expanded past the borders of modern day Ukraine, at another point its city's was left smouldering by The Khan.

wtf? a battle between Kievan Rus and Novgorod fought in Sweden? Does the Kievan Rus have towns in Sweden? If thats the case its wrong, Swedes created Kievan Rus, but they were in Eastern Europe.. It should be the Varangian Rus Homeland... Sweden.

You obviously don't understand this game.
TheAussie00 3 years ago
This comment has received too many negative votes show
what are u whining about? Explaine why Kievan Rus have towns in Sweden instead then..
joonte1010 3 years ago
Im not the one complaining here, and I didnt say anything supporting that Kievan Rus had Swedish towns historically.
IF you played this game you would know that you can pick any faction to play with, and then sculpt its expansion away from historical guidelines. To win the game you basically need to take over half of Europe/Middle East/ N. Africa.
TheAussie00 3 years ago
Do u start with towns in Sweden? When u are Kievan Rus? During the Medieval age, Sweden had lost all its connection to the Kievan rus organisation. It was fully slavic.
joonte1010 3 years ago
ok, look you retard, let me put it in a simple way. DO YOU UNNNNNNNDERSTAAAAAND?
azergays 2 years ago
but then again, this is a mod, and it is inteded to add more factions and make it more historicaly acurate, and fun :D... but since it IS independent work done to create this, it wouldnt suprise me if the starting towns arent EXACTLY correct for the time period

WOUTRT 3 years ago
Russians, Ukrainians, Belarussians, all have people with Slavonic, Scaninavian, Turkic, Tartar, and Cuman origins.
(Tartarstan is a modern russian province)
TheAussie00 3 years ago
to be Slavic has nothing to do with tatars or huns, or monlgols or smth.
