  • I'm sure someone has asked this already. What mods did you do to the 5150

  • which guitar and cab do you use? Sounds really good!

  • @screw66 Thanks. this was probably my LTD ninja and an earcandy buzzbomb 212.

  • @thewrathofraf nice. thnx for info :)

  • The 6505+ sounds better in this case.

  • nice job! great review on 2 great amps i have the 6505+ and i couldnt be happier with it its so much more clearer while still keeping that dark edge there is def a differance the 5150 has more mid range while i would say the + has a more higher oriented mid range but they do sound very similar almost identical at times i think alot of ''purists'' are paying attention to details that dont exist they have their own character that is the differance...and cleans ;)

  • First was spongy, second was dry and woody .I prefer the second one.

  • they sound the same to me

  • lol maybe i'm an idiot, but with a little eq job they can both sound just the same i think?

  • @Makau93 You can get them really close, but there are characteristics on each that cant be duplicated in the other. The voicing is also a bit different, 5150 is more low mid focused, 6505+ more hi mid focused. The low end feel and response is different on each as well.

  • @thewrathofraf I think that the only reason you have a slightly different sound is the fact that your comparing a 5150I-6505+. you should compare the 5150I with the 6505 and the 5150II with the 6505+. The inside is exactly the same i think.

  • @JustSomeRandomNewb Yup, thats completely true. Im comparing 2 different amps here, which was kinda the point.

  • @thewrathofraf Ah, ok, my bad :D

  • @JustSomeRandomNewb All good man. Theres definitely a point to be made with comparing the 6505+ with the 515II as well...but yeah, those 2 should sound identical, as should the 6505 and 5150.

  • @thewrathofraf What i would like to see, is how the 6505+ compares to the 6505+112 combo (with the 6505+ in 60w mode), both conected to the same cab. Just to see how similar they sound.

  • @JustSomeRandomNewb Yeah, that would be a cool comparison. I think they sound basically identical.

  • @JustSomeRandomNewb They sound the same.

  • @xBRinGMeThEHorizoNz Similar but not the same, the 6505/5150 is grindier in the low mids and a little looser. The 6505+/5150II is a brighter, and tighter amp.

  • @theallmightyham yeah the 6505+ does sound a little more focused.

  • @JustSomeRandomNewb I ve played both 6505+ head with cab and combo 6505+ 112 (stock tubes)... IMO combo doesnt sound like head at all!! combo 112 is muddy, you dont have that low end and that 6505+ characteristics!! but combo 6505 212 is something different

  • @JustSomeRandomNewb I think that's the point. Why compare two amps that are exactly the same?

  • As you can see here...its totally dark.

  • what guitar ??

  • @richass100 LTD Ninja

  • how much you pay for it?

  • @MrGoth777 earcandy buzzbomb 212 with eminence legend M12 speakers. I paid 400 for it used. I no longer have this cab, unfortunately.

  • dude what cab are you using for this video???

  • I prefer the sound of the 5150 in this test...

  • randall or peavey for metalcore?

  • @Kitarrrrr depends on which amp from each company....I think the V2 series from randall sounds pretty close to the 6505+....the randall may be a little clearer and tighter. Either one will work perfectly, just depends on which you like better.

  • lol you didn't think to warm up the + while playing with the 5150 ? :P

  • @snapascrew looks like he used the same power chord as the 5150, that's why I think

  • @MusicMyBlood oh ahahahah that's sillly

  • @MusicMyBlood cord*** oops

  • @snapascrew Didnt wanna have it turned on without a speaker load.

  • @thewrathofraf when the amp is in standby it doesn't matter :)

  • @snapascrew yeah, but Im paranoid.

  • @thewrathofraf Paranoid isn't the right word lol... the amp is completely fine when in standby mode if there's no cab connected.

  • @snapascrew does it really matter? Im gonna do what Im gonna do, and this video has been for a while now, so who cares...

  • @thewrathofraf LOL do what you want man it doesn't matter to me I just thought I'd let you know dude, sorry to bother.

  • @snapascrew Not really a bother, but I remember you pushing things like that on HCAF lol.

  • @thewrathofraf okay.

  • 5150 is the same as the 6505. The 6505+ has more gain that is the only difference one more preamp tube. I thought the 5150 had better mids but the 6505+ had a better low end. They are both great amps till the plate resisters fry out every year or two. They both need bias pot mods also. I still love the sound though.

  • @gtarmn75 The original actually has more gain than the +. The + has an extra preamp tube dedicated to the clean channel.

  • is the 5105 identical to the 6505 or not ?

  • @hardyboyzn1 5150=6505. 5150II=6505+

  • @LandOfMutants lol. nice.

  • @LandOfMutants lol...what the hell is going on here haha

  • @rokinfknrol lol i hate you.

  • Lead channel are identical, the only difference you will hear will be caused by tubes.

  • @zerogravity121 LOL...they arent even close.

  • @zerogravity121 these are solid state amps. they dont have tubes

  • @SlaughteredInside no they have tubes

  • @SlaughteredInside They are all tube, not SS.

  • hmmmm idk i might like a bit more the 5150.... the other its too tight for me :p

  • Were both heads in this demo set at the same volume? To me the 6505+ sounds a little brighter. I can't decide between these 2 amps. I love them both. I have 2 offers right now. One for a 6505+ and another for a 5150 for about the same price ($50 more for 6505+).

  • @rattlehead001 Yes, similar volumes. The 6505+ is tighter, clearer, has a better clean, and just overall sounds better, IMO. That would be my choice.

  • @thewrathofraf I went with the 6505+ and I have no regrets. You were right its clearer sounding with a better clean channel and its tighter. I also like the response of the 6505+ better than the 5150 which can be a bit sluggish at times.

  • @rattlehead001 Good choice man!! Glad you like it!!

  • Isn't the 6505 just the anniversary edition of the 5150? Name change cuz Fender makes 5150s now

  • @InterspeciesErotica7 Yes to the first part, kind of to the second. 5150=6505, 5150 II=6505+. Fender makes a different amp called the 5150 III. Eddie own that name, so peavey renamed theirs, but kept the circuits, when Eddie left peavey.

  • @DemetrisGouveris Thanks!! Im using an earcandy buzzbomb 212 cab.

  • @Pwnersupreme I definitely agree that its tighter.

  • HI how does a 6505+ Sound like with low volumes in bedrooms or just just enough to not disturb the neibourghs

  • @SEVIL999 Sounds great to me. This video was done at low volumes.

  • Nice video man. Fuckin' love the 6505+, it's a sweet amp and fairly reliable. My brother has an old Block Letter 5150 and it breaks down on him fairly regularly due to the age of the parts and whatnot (which kind of surprises me). Both amps are good stuff though.

  • @ESPKannon Thanks. That really surprises me about the 5150. I had one from 1992, and it never gave me any trouble.

  • There honestly pretty much the exact same amp, kind have to ask your self if you want a replica or the original, but i would deff do some after market stuff to either one, this is what my 5150 sounded like when i first got it, and i hates the tone until i had it setup good and got all the right tubes in it and right cab.

  • @visionsrecording I definitely disagree with you there. They are definitely NOT the same amp. The original is much looser and is more lower mid focused. The + is tighter, more upper mid focused, MUCH clearer, and less fizzy.

  • @thewrathofraf

But there still both great heads, but idk how much i can say about it, because my 5150 had been fully restored and rebuilt like theres no longer any old parts in it what so ever, and its got some mods, but its always sounded better then 6505 that bands have brought in with them, But still the tones pretty much the same, you can slightly tell a difference but every band i have worked with ended up choosing the 5150 for the final mixing

  • @visionsrecording

So im a recording engineering im going to school in seattle for audio.

and i will say this much, i have used my 5150 and i have had a 6505 and working with them in the studio if you set up a 5150 right and don't make dumb ass choices and know what your doing they sound a lot better, theres nothing different in the heads what so ever, it depends what tubes your running and how it was setup. If you would like i could send you tones from my 5150 in a mix that way you can see.

  • @visionsrecording Im not sure what you are getting at here. The 5150 and the 6505 are identical amp. These are not the 2 amps in this video, though. The amps here are the 5150 and the 6505+ (aka 5150II). The + (or II) version is SIGNIFICANTLY different from the non +/II version.

  • I have been looking around for a video like this. Good job. Are the small differences I hear just volume differences in the amps? They are both great.

  • @dsl100stack Thanks!! Glad you like it. The amps are definitely different. They have a similar basic tone, but they are voiced a bit differently. The 5150 is more lower mid voiced and is a lot looser than the 6505+. The plus has a much better clean tone. Both are capable of much more than people give them credit for. After hearing and playing them both, the + is the one that stayed, for me.

  • @thewrathofraf That's good to know. I personally like the plus ad well because of te separate EQ for each channel, and the tone in the video. I have used alot of plus's and own a combo and love the tone. And forthe price they sell them, what even comes close?

  • @dsl100stack Exactly!! Especially the used price. My + head was 600 bucks. The combo has a VERY similar distortion tone. Separate eq on the rhythm channel is nice, but I have it dialed the same as my lead channel haha.

  • @thewrathofraf Nice bro. I have the 1x12 version(the cheapy) the I bought just as a practice amp but I've actually started using it to record stuff cause it's got some monster tone
