  • to standing phase of bjj isboring arent you allowed to throw?t. why not learn a few throws instead of just pulling guard. i was screaming at the screen there were many times where a simple foot sweep would have taken the opponent down. BJJ is so advanced with its ground work but looks very basic with its throws.

  • How did you win the second match? You had the pass, but the other guy had a sweep and side control.

Also, how long have you been a blue belt?

  • Curious as to your input on this: I notice that Ari will grasp the opposite side lapel opening himself up for a possible arm drag and his opponent could take his back. I learned recently that unless you have someone in your guard you shouldn't grasp for the opposite lapel. Any positive/negative comments on either method? What say you? Great Channel guys! Thanks!

  • @asolo5 What you learned is correct. The reason he does that and doesn't get his back taken is because he is against a white belt.

  • @k3nd4lll Not sure what script is causing that but the website itself is clean as can be. Just trying to track down the glitch. What anti virus are you using?

  • @Submissions101 hmmm im using norton but i have been to your website a few times since then and it was fine so idk...btw thanks for the great vids bro

  • @k3nd4lll we fixed it !

  • i used to think u guys sucked but dam that submission at 4:00 is just ... pro

  • ur bjj is isck ari stay on the web!

  • white belt vs blue belt?

  • What belt are you?

  • You lost to a white belt (at the time) in the finals...

  • @vginawhisperer As is the case with many of these tourney's, wrestlers and mma practitioners also join intermediate and advanced divisions. This was taken from his coach "But Bam is a professional MMA fighter and an MMA instructor as well. He was awarded his blue belt directly after this match. It was an even match up."

  • @Submissions101 Its called "sandbagging" imo.. and it happens all the time..

  • how much did it cost to enter that comp?

  • haha at keith owen "i dont teach this shit for nothing"

  • Ari you're doing a fantastic job, keep up the good work!

  • upset wit ari...on his last match

  • are slams allowed in these competitions?

  • the dude at 4:30 is a purple belt is he not? So....shouldnt the question be why is the white belt with a 4th stripe blue belt and a purple belt? :D

  • I felt like taking on more advanced opponents. I was willing to lose because i was in it for the experience, not the medal

  • "see! i told you it worked..i dont teach this shit for nothing" was thast keith owen talking lol???

  • that was so cool im glad you uploaded this video i cant wait for you to compete again

  • Ari you're the shit. How are u only a blue belt? I'd think purple at least...how long have u done this for?

  • Ari don't you already have a black belt under Eddie Bravo ? I know you are restarting your belt grading under Keith Owen but why are you competing against lower ranking people in competition. I know you could of smashed them using your other system. Are you applying only the techniques that Keith Owen teaches you when competing in a blue belt division or how does that work ?

  • @BxMafioso718 Absolutely not. I am a purple in nogi 10th Planet JJ under Eddie and working towards my purple in GI with Keith. There is much to learn (that sounded Yoda like ;-). They are both wonderful and I appreciate how both my teachers have helped me.

  • @Submissions101 You will accomplish your goals. You are a great instructor and seem like a great guy overall. There is always room to learn more and more (Yoda was right lol ) Great performance in the competition. Good luck with the road ahead.

  • LMAO @ Keith 2:17

  • woah is the ref that one guy that occasionally posts the advanced basics or something like that for submissions 101?

  • @wroyals07 Yes...that is Mr. Scott Marker aka the REF!!!!

  • Ari what happened to any takedowns.. it almost seems like your not even really attempting any.. are you still practicing the JJJ stuff?

  • @monji112000 Yes, still doing JJJ. I like standing straight up...lol...let's get it to the ground and start the business is my motto ;-)

  • @Submissions101 If your a purple no-gi and almost a purple gi why are you competing against a white belt? Was he the only guy in his division and they moved him up or something?

  • @tuopvm There was a guy I faced that was wearing a white belt but was in fact a blue because he had forgotten his (as I was told). Also, some guys with wrestling experience move up to blue belt. Sometimes, guys who are almost blue or want the challenge will move up as well.

  • @Submissions101 DAmn that was a quick response. Thanx

  • @Submissions101 Kaleb wasn't a blue belt, he was a white belt with 4 months training and no prior martial arts experience.

  • @SheydH For Kaleb you are correct. Not sure why he was put in the blue belt division by his instructor. Kaleb was a very nice guy to be sure. I found in my matches that there were blue belts, purple belts and guys with pro mma records (my loss in the gold medal gi match and my win in the nogi (Cody Udy)...quite a variety there).

  • @Submissions101

Its just that I was exptecting some type of throw or application of your JJJ.. Why did you choose to go the other direction? me I'm adding as much Judo as I can.. Just a odd strategy I thought.. but whatever you feel good.. who am I to tell you :D

  • @monji112000 I have a pretty bad back injury (L5/S1) that prevents me from quick jerking movements or some throws. I was...to be sure...a bit cautious in all my matches this time around. I just wanted to get to the ground as quick as possible and wasn't concerned about the take down as much. However, it did go through my mind more than once.

  • 3:34 secs. nice execution..awesome...lot's of respect..

  • I wish the comp rules for modern day Judo were more like this. here in Japan they stand us up almost immediately , It sucks cause Im so much better on the ground. that first submission was Gold!

    great job Ari

  • @Jackthemeat That's why I got bored of judo and I'll start bjj :)

  • @Jackthemeat yer BJJ is probally more like the real judo that kano invented. modern sport judo is so far removed from real judo that we might aswell just rename its greco roman wrestling in a gi lol

  • are you only blue belt on bjj ?

  • hahaha I love Keiths comments during the first match, "Oh he wants to arch again." Keep up the great work guys.

  • DUDE KEITH'S COMMENTS ARE FUNNY AS SHITT!!

Your opponent has like a handle thing sticking from his back... what is that?

  • How did the guy in the Blue win?

  • that was likean inverted triangle paired with a kimura, just wow on 4:04

  • Keith Owen is a genius, with him in your corner you just can't lose.

  • Is this Judo?

  • @MagicalCardDude no brazillian jiu jitsu

  • @cmMoon Oh I see.

  • what was the submission in the first match?

  • I miss Jiu Jitsu, it's to expensive here in Vancouver! Nice stuff Ari, I miss watching your vids.

  • Flying armbar was just waiting for ya at the start. Sometimes you just have to give'er even though the chances of it working are slim.

  • i feel kinda motivated to train more cuz of this great work man

  • Great job Ari......I would love to train with you and Keith. Is he coming to Canada? or are you coming to his school?

  • @tunruh I do both as regularly as I can

  • "i dont teach this shit for nothing" hahaha

  • no throws allowed?

  • "i DON'T TEACH THIS SHIT FOR NOTHIN!" Haha, gotta love Kieth Owen (I think that was him...)

  • that submission you put on the first guy was beautiful! i hope you'll make a video teaching how its done

  • @inT1Midat0r We already have it: watch?v=iGxnXCi1Z0o

  • Must Be Great Having Keith Owen There To Instruct & Cheer For Ya!

  • That's great stuff. I'd really like to learn som Jiujitsu.

  • Ari do you play with De La Riva Guard very much? I saw a glimpse of it in your first match. I think De La Riva and Reverse De La Riva would work really well for you.

  • @SifuEli Starting too now. That DLR sweep was shown to me 2 days before this tourney and I worked on it. Love it to bits!

  • @Submissions101 Check out Marcello Monteiro. He was one of De La Riva's protege's. I got blue belt under him about 8 months ago. He has a fantastic De La Riva guard. Watch the video of De La Riva and Marcello Monteiro rolling its a great example of DLR guard.

  • "Told you it works, I don't teach this shit for nothing!" Keith Owen is a legend!

  • @IrishRhavin "ohh he so wants to do it doesn't he!" lmao

  • man i absolutely love listenin to Keith Owen in the background here, it's brilliant

  • Haha I love Keith's commentary in the background.. "I don't teach this shit for nothin'!" and "You seem to have something goin' here Ari... 2 minutes big guy!" What a motivational man!!! hahahaha I love this guy.

  • @LUESoldat Keith Owen is a world class teacher and coach for sure!

  • i've been doing bjj several months but never been in a actual tournie yet, can you explain exactly wat happened at the end there? are you only allowed a certain ammount of time for a fight and the winner is decided on points or did the opponents team throw in the towel? if they did throw in the towel why?

  • @predator101101 there are time limits bro (5 mins) and you get points for things like takedowns, sweeps, knee on belly, mount, back control. The towel you saw that got thrown in was a visual key to let everyone know that the time had expired.

  • @Submissions101 ah right thanks for clearing that up for me :)

  • Nice toss from the Dela Riva.

  • @jdawgzilla117 Keith and I practiced this 2 days before the torney and I LOVE the options from there.

  • last one was claas
