Is this boy a wrestler too in some nearby akhara? Sheesh, from constantly hugging and squeezing that pole with his legs, I'd hate for him to catch me in a scissors hold! He'd crush my stomach and ribcage.......with his legs!
How do these Indian wrestlers develop so much strength without building any visible muscle to speak of? None of them look very strong but they are. Is it because they train from such a young age like this boy?
It must be a proper development of flexibility and tendon strength. Mallakhamb is a form of "shadow sparring" for wrestlers who would practice chains of holds on the pole. It helps massage the body by constant contact with the pole. Grapplers would benefit tremendously training this. Don't let its looks intimidate you.
