And yes. Atheism is merely a lack of belief in a God. There is no real ism in atheism.

The people who has gathered in that hall have not gathered because they are all atheists. They might well all, or almost all, be atheists. But that is not why they have gathered. Atheism gives you no insentive to gather like that. But many other factors does.

I don't get your point about hypocracy at all. Why wouldn't you be able to actively promote not accepting a claim without being a hypocrite?

My point is that these "atheist gatherings" is not simply about atheism.

Most are about sceptisicm, rational thinking or science. And/or in some cases (religious) intollerance and how to cambat it. These are all good reasons to come together.

@Onetruthrgv Is there something particularly religious or biased about having conferences? If someone tried to push religious dogma or political religion of a kind to which you don't subscribe, like islam, would you not oppose it? Would there be anything religious or non-neutral about such an opposition? Religion will fade, conferences not. Why can't you religious people stop pretending like you have some sort of immunity against criticism and fucking take it like a man for once? Whiny pussies.

There were many good speakers at the convention, and some really bad ones, but Dawkins was indeed a highlight. Dan Barker was especially Good. Such a genuine, honest guy. He signed my copy of "Godless". The DVD of the convention is available now. I hope to get it for father's Day!

Personally I was rather taken aback by the crowd response to the DNA woman. I mean she might have been there to stir but she was uneducated and seeking knowledge in that which should be encouraged.
