  • Nice stuff, but more Maynard than Mangione.

  • I love this song a lot. One simple suggestion, the opening trumpet line could be played a little bit lighter.

  • Comment removed

  • Wow this trumpet player is really really good.

  • Fantastic high register! Clean attacks! Great job as a whole though I felt he could tone down a little more and his tone was a little too laserbeam-like.. but otherwise.. GREAT JOB! :)

  • god bless this gentleman he plays like an angel !!!!!!! what a talent !!!! keep on the good job !!!!!!!!!!!

  • I would turn the same color when I play this too but I'm too dark lol

  • to xXjohnboujpXx4

    get a life

  • do you have any sheet music?

  • get a flugelhorn

  • just awsome

  • great chops--enjoyed it, thanks

  • He turned the color of his shirt

  • OMG, he went red!!

  • interesting variation.

  • This is a great rendition! the lead trumpet gives it a real Mexican feel!

  • der is halt ned ma so gut wie ihr alle schreibt. der macht zwar schöne läude aber der hat nen ton wie ne gieskanne

  • this is really great. all the critics are just a bunch of fuckin hoosiers.

  • you should put "children" and "sanchez" in the tags for this video so people can search for it

  • I thought they did a fine job, and I enjoyed watching the trumpet soloist having a good time with it.

  • Simply Spectacular!

  • Nice job, but there are other dynamics than fortissimo...

  • @sabresfn2661

you are right. he just can play pianissimo. i don't like musik like that

  • in my opinion, the trumpet part is overdone. Simplicity is good.

  • @2:50 he's the same color as his shirt. lol BEAST TRUMPET though. high register sounds uber cool :D

  • Thank you Majin for the nice words but the red is a sunburn

  • Yea,

I was surprised just how red he got. But his performance was spectacular!

  • np:) i love all the trills, the grace notes :) i love it all :) good job:)

  • AWESOME!

  • i love this :)

  • thank you amusingO

  • Very nice solo-part but the beginning is to slow !

  • Finally sombody who plays this piece on trumpet. GREA==T . I was asked to do this piece on flugel and my first reaction was (unaware of the ins&outs) NOT on trumpet??? I just listen to a few on flugel performers and they all sound more like a trumpet than a flugel anyway i.e. including the original. iT gets a lot more spirit like this. keep up the good work!

  • THANK YOU iriemanvenlo. please check out our web page. THANKS again

    Regent

  • Just reading over some of the comments made. I'm always amazed, at how critical, some posters are, of video's that are shared here on YouTube. Can't anyone just sit back and enjoy what is shared by someone, who is obviously proud enough of a performace, to share it with others.

I play trumpet. I thought the solo performace was excellent. Does he approach it the way I would? No. So what. Artistic interpretation, right? I thought his tone was powerful and attacks clean. Nice high register too!

  • at last someone understands, THANK YOU!!!

  • @schilkeman i completely agree

  • If I was the director, I would be shouting "TOO LOUD. TOO FUCKIN' LOUD!" at the beginning. It's got to start with some soul. Pretty good other than that. I do love the solo trumpet. (That is what this song is all about.) Regent, you should be makin' money somewhere. Band could be crisper, and again with the noisy snares! Couldn't he move that into an alcove somewhere?

  • thank you for the kind words. please remember this was done with a home camcorder, not pro. but comments understood

  • Oh, you're quite welcome. I do believe you need to quiet down the drummer, particularly the snares, and the whole band in the beginning. What sort of gigs are you playing?

  • Now just imagine what this would sound like live, or with quality recording equipment, not a cruddy flash movie made from a handy cam.

Plz to be traveling to Seattle with this set.

  • the trills take out the simplicty and fluidness of the original composition

  • the music is awesome but its to much trumpet and to little of the rest of the band i also have to play this for the lenoir city high school marching band we ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • to many trills leave them out and it will sound really good and find a flugelhorn to play it on

  • solo naprawdę super

  • thank u for the criticism, how old R U? do U play trpt? if so I would love to hear U.

  • Thank U jbgirl. it's ALL in the arban book.

  • its pretty good...its def. not great but its pretty good...the soloist is pretty good too, again not amazing but good.

  • omg i played this for jazz band and we sounded yay better than this

  • dude i played the piece ill check wat tempo is riten on it

  • hahaha bass clarinets are so useless

  • holy heck... the trumpet soloist!

    WHOA.

  • i dont kno why peopel think this is so great. the trumpets got a gd sound but if uve actually played this song (like me) u will realise that its a hell of alot of faster. listen to flugel player that took part in british youth solo finals for 2009 thats how it shud be played!

  • Could you please send the link for the British youth solo finals for 2009, so that such a talent could be seen and heard, thanks much....

  • Yeah no doubt. I mean who could ever imagine playing a musical piece with a different tempo than the original arrangement. These guys should be shot for trying to add their own creativity to music.

  • Actually they're not playing it much slower than the original. Listen to the recording of Chuck Mangione leatherlips posted. Its about the same tempo. Maybe before you make criticisms you should check your sources

  • Just perfect.

  • He sounds excellent at 2:30

Maybe if his face didn't match his shirt ... but I can't blame him, that was what? F over G or somethin? haha, well 5/5

  • Best Solo's ever!

  • solo in 2:30 is amazing!!! nice

  • dude this is awesome and the tone is amazing. but i still think that it sounds better on a flugel. (no offense)

  • ... awesome!!!!!

  • the second trumpet solo....i will never be able to play it as good as that....

  • good job. any chance you can get me a copy or download of this song? i'd really love to play the beginning trumpet part. can you atleast get me progressions?

  • my god... that solo was frickin awesome!!!

The drum solo at the beggining was very undefined, like something was wrong with the snare on it.

    Other than that, you're amazing.

  • He was just sick! BTW, on your screenname, you got any videos to back up that claim? lol jk

  • Jego koszulka ma taki samo kolór twarzy ;p

  • dude, who are you!?! that was amazing!

  • SHIT

  • thank you!!!

  • no lol i mean that in a good way because i was very shocked how good u were so i was like holy shit omg thats good

  • Your good, not just good, insanely wooahh, props, i wish i could hit high notes on my trumpet like that.

  • La tecnica del tomate buena abuelito con mucho sabor para el mundo entero tu eres lo maximo abuelito ....tu eres el unico

  • 2:55 he is the exact same color as his shirt lmao great solos though

  • As I said before-it is a SUNBURN but thanks for the nice comment.

  • nahh i think his face is a little darker

  • koleś na trabce trzeszczy a nie gra... tak to sie chyba grało dawniej na weselach wiejskich... po kilku głebszych...

  • fuck no man u need the flugel horn in there it just isnt the same but i like this arrangement

  • no offense to Chuck but this version was just plain better.

  • zgadzam się...trochę siłowo.

  • THAT WAS FUKIN AMAZIN

  • gosciu troche siłowo gra...

  • ya it was definitely a good different from chuck. not saying his was bad, but it was a great way of being unique thanx

  • zajebiste mi sie podoba koles jak na trabce nie wymiata to juz szok

  • Very bad drummer!!!!

    Nice trumpet solo

  • this guy has no problem in the high register and its still in tune..Great horn work.

  • where is your flügel??

  • great song and everybody copy's C mangione's style. I wanted to do it different. (I remember my first trumpet teacher when I was 12, BE DIFFERENT FIND YOUR OWN THING he taught me.) Spanish music is one of my favorite styles. So I had fun with it.

    Regent

  • personally, i think it sounds better.

  • without the flugel, i mean.

  • ale trombka buraka siekła

  • Jak można tak spieprzyć wielkiego twórcę Chuck`a Mangione? Powinni wymierzać dożywocie za takie znieważanie tak pięknej muzyki.

  • Holy shiiit! That Regent Scott is no joke!! This is teh best I have heard Sanchez since Mangione. Truly inspired and inspiring.

  • Nice solo, but on the tutti sections he tongue stops the notes, which sounds bad.

  • thank u for the nice comment, but the tongue is suppose to interrupt the air stream and stop the flow of air. read herbert l. clarks comments on tonguing in his characteristic studies.

  • i agree!

  • We had to play this at school :)

It was great, but thes guys play it really good and I really like their solos...

  • amazing

  • that was nice work. and so what if he glissed to the strong notes. if you havent realized latin styled music doesnt generally utilize notes out of the scale. listen to anything, tito puente's band, chuck mangione, you'll see

  • if you really listen the solo wasnt that great b/c he is just glissing to all the strong notes in the scale....

  • that was nice work. and so what if he glissed to the strong notes. if you havent realized latin styled music doesnt generally utilize notes out of the scale. listen to anything, tito puente's band, chuck mangione, you'll see

  • Dig the bass as it enters the highway

  • Good solo work!

Too bad the recording makes you sound pretty sharp in the higher register. I'm glad though that I'm not the only trumpet player that tilts his trumpet to the side about 45 degrees :D

I always get remarks about that.

    Cheers!

  • i bent my 2nd piston by playing it tilted

  • how about -like it's a sunburn

  • I love His Embelishment on his part, and his solo kicks ass.

  • Also what kind of trumpet and mouthpiece do you play on?

  • the trpt is a new(8mnths) BACH 187 litwght ML 460 b from DILLON'S Music. the mouthpiece is a GREG BLACK custom he made for me. he is a super mouthpiece tech. check out his website.

It was done at a rehearsal, I think I did fluff a couple of notes, nobody's perfect.

    thanks for the nice remarks

    regent

  • You would think that you would buy a monette mouthpiece and maybe trumpet (yes i know they are expensive) but Dillons music is one of the few stores in america that carry monette mouthpieces, you should get one.

  • WHY????????

  • Monette mouthpieces give greater stability of tone, less pressure on the embrocher, greater range and tone and a more comfortable feeling overall. Monette trumpets and mouthpieces are the best in the world.

  • I thought you stuck to the chords well except for that one part at the very begining and that is some funky vibrato.

  • Amazing. You just made my day.

One thing though... how can you do the 16ths without double-tonguing? It sounded singled to me. (Maybe the band director is hiding something from me)

  • thank u for the nice comments.

It's single tonguing. It's all in the Arban book. read the begining of the Clark tech studies on tonguing also. thanks again and please check out our website. bensen-scott big band.

    regent

  • Oh My Gosh, Oh My...WOw ur too good, sooo good...that was an amazing performance by the trumpet player and everyone, well done and congratulations becz that was like, A MASTERPIECE! Barvo, wow thank you, that just made my day...

  • Great tone and technique. Reminds me of Wayne Bergeron's playing.

  • I humbly thank you for your comments

    regent

  • One of the best live performances ever on COS I've listened to!

  • The Trumpet Solo was great but the drummer was kinda soundin sloppy but maybe its the drum or the sound quality.

  • at 1:53 there needs to be cowbell. MORE COWBELL, our jr. jazz did this somg a few years ago and got first place and our marching band is doing it this spring.

  • impressive stuff...

very stylistic and mariachi in the head and melodies

would of been a billion times better if he used the chords in the solo rather than just screeching anything up there though. A few bum notes that could of been a lot more pleasant if they were chordal.

    still shouldn't complain, awesome recording

  • Thank you for your comment. it is appreciated. I thought I was following the chords. But it gets a little harder at 66 years young. My partner and I are trying to help keep big band music alive in the New York area. Work is scarce. Thanks again for your remarks and keep watching.

    Regent Scott

  • haha good work keeping this music alive, pity its feeling the strain of time in NY. I'm in Australia and luckily big band music is still going strong, still popular and still a lot of good groups out there.

oh and you might be interested that I've transcribed you're additions of the solo sections to play for my final school exams here in Aus. So thanks for that!

  • Thank you and I wish you much success. By the way all of our videos where done at our weekly rehearsals. u might want to check out our website- bensen scott big band

also glad to hear that in your country the big bands are working

    best of luck and happiness.

    regent

  • They are very good, but are pushing this piece a little too hard for my taste. If Mr. Regent played flügel and the drummer took it down a couple of notches, the rest of the band would fall into place nicely.

As it is, it has kind of a marching band flavor...

  • I feel that Regent owns, but the rest of the band is slacky

  • Oh man, nice trumpet!

    Although it's kinda edgy.

  • This complicated piece cannot be done unless true expertise is initiated, which it is here with abandon. Check out Regent Scott on the lead Horn. Awesome.

  • Clear and sharp trumpet tone. But the Bones are to smooth for my taste.
