Warhammer 40,000 - Tyranids Tribute

Ok if i may clear this up, Tyranids are based off of the Xenomorphs from the Alien series, the Zerg are based off of the Tyranids because StarCraft was originally going to be a Warhammer 40k RTS (it was a proto-Dawn of War if you will) that Games Workshop decided against. So they canned it, but Blizzard didn't want all the money they spent to go to waste so they renamed/retooled some characters/species and made StarCraft.

So please stop with the arguing, its quite annoying for those who know.

@Madpizzaboy2 You mean Zerg were created to look like tyranids, Relic made Warhammer in the 80s There is a document in which Blizzard asked relic to use their universe in the game. The Relic Refused. And Blizzard had to change Many characters to look diferent from the Relic Warhammer universe.

Tyranids=Zerg

@MyNinoslav Actually, GW asked Blizzard to make a 40k RTS, but got cold feet near the end, fearing abysmal sales, and backed out, so Blizzard had to do last minute changes. GW kinda kicked themselves on that one.

Wow great video. Quick question to the boffs... If humans have a warp God, the shaman emperor conglomerate etc (depending on your school), the eldar have Slaneesh and so on. Does the tyranid hive mind have a warp presence? If so, can we expect a Tyr Chaos God in the ether? Or do they have no connection to the warp? Do any Chaos Gods recognize the tyr as servants?

@Hubrisza the tyranid hive mind serves as an actual blockage to the warp on a large scale, when a hive fleet converges on a planet the Astropaths (psykers that communicate over vast distances through the warp) become useless. this is known as the Shadow of the Warp phenomenon. the chaos gods do not use Tyr as servants, because the Tyr's only goal is the consumption of all life in the galaxy, and a dead galaxy is not something The Ruinous Powers want. hope I was helpfull

naa gene stealers were modelled on aliens, the tyranids grew out of the genestealers from the 1st space hulk game.. ahh i can still remember my first gene stealer model from space crusade back in the day, but yeah rules were added 4 40k rogue trade for a gene stealer faction that later developed in to the tyranids

Games Workshop, I implore you to create a Survival Horror Game (or film) featuring IG/Civilians (or both) attempting to survive and escape (not repel) a Tyranid Invasion. That would be epic.

After all, we have experienced the God like confidence of the Angels of Death (in Space Marine), so why can we not see the vulnerability and weakness of the average human surrounded on all sides doing nothing but attempt to survive?

On an unrelated note, they're probably my favorite antagonist alien species ever, tying up at the top with the Xenomorphs of the Alien universe. Also, loved the vid, music set the tone perfectly.

Your logic is misguided.

You clearly know nothing of 40k, and have only played the DoW series. Tyranids devastate planets with natural disasters, and they convert the populace into their own kind (which is supposed to be the difference right? You got your wires crossed there pal). Tyranid Hiveminds can download and manipulate a downloaded gene sample, and contribute it to the horde, you know what?

They do exactly the same things albeit more efficiently. SC copied 40k.

Ah no. After the forward scouts (usually lictors, genestealers) begin infiltrating, converting, and weakening the populace, eventually a Tyranid fleet is sent to consume the world. They use a form of Faster Than Light travel which uses the planets own gravitational pull to propel the fleet forwards. This form of travel sends the planets natural rhythm into disarray, tidal waves, planet wide earthquakes, volcanic eruptions etc, occur further weakening the populace.

@Goldfarseer i havent kept up with tyranid lore but didnt they originally infiltrate the population with gene stealer cults (this was from the original genestealer faction history, i expect they changed it by now) causing rebellion and lowering defence capability's while signalling to the hive fleet, the when the hive invades they strip the planet bare of all dna, any thing living basicly that are then recycled in the living factory ships to create what ever is needed..

The Tyranids would be frightening in any science fiction universe, but it's really impressive that they manage to be frightening in the universe of Warhammer 40k, alongside factions like the Daemons of Chaos and the Necrons (and, hell, the Space Marines and I.G. themselves for that matter). The 'crons are still my favorite "evil" race, but the tyranids have a special place in every 40k fan's heart.
