The beetle version of the Iron beetle reminds me of the Kabuto Zecter. But After seeing this review, I think that Mugenbine is awesome.

Iron Beetle and Junk Stag also have similarities to the Denkosekka Goraiger, in animal representation and colors kinda. the Goraiger have darker coloration, but it's similar.

Actually, the beetle is a Japanese rhinoceros beetle, Kabuto is just another word for beetle. Hercules beetle would be the Gold, Silver, and Bronze riders in the Kabuto series.

Coincidentally, the Busou Shinki line also has two characters, one red and one blue, both beetles, that also combine and have seperate modes. I'm beginning to think it's just a returning theme in Japanese toy design more than anything.

I believe Mugenbine came out before Kamen Rider (at least, it came out before Kabuto). I think it may have come out in the 80s or 90s. It might even still be going on - I'm not 100% sure. But if it was before Kabuto, then obviously it wasn't intended. Heck, it might have been the other way round (although I doubt it).

No, the sound effects are referencing a Kamen Rider series that used a red and blue beetle prominently. The only animation for Mugenbine were commercials and a cameo at the end of the new Machine Robo Rescue series.

It's kind of like if Transformers worked like Lego. Each has the same base figure with lots of pegs and sockets, and anywhere from 6 to 12 parts to attach on, with at least two official modes. With many sets, you can build huge vehicles and robots of any design you want.
