I still don't understand the practical advantage to the consumer whether their batteries are protected or not. You are unlikely to over discharge your batttery, since your PV won't work when the voltage drops that much. Also, if you are using an appropriate charger, your battery won't over charge because the charger will shut off.

What is the advantage to the PV user? I'm not questioning your info, I just can't find the answer to my question, anywhere. Thanks!
