Jack Kelly did a LOT more than just "a few guest shots on westerns ... then faded into game shows and commercial voice-overs." He was a regular on just about every TV show in the 60s w/a variety of recurring roles, a voice-over master w/many credits, & his imprint on southern California politics remains to this day--City Council & Mayor, real estate holdings, business, bldg the Huntington Beach area into much of what it is today. JACK KELLY BIO OUT 2011.
@lindajalexander You're right about Kelly doing a lot more post-Maverick than I was thinking about when I wrote that a couple of months ago. The "Tall Dark Stranger" blog is a trove of clips and references to performances of which I was previously unaware, such as doing several "Bob Hope's Chrysler Theatre" shows playing the lead as some sort of secret agent, something I somehow never knew about, and guest shots on all sorts of shows like Banacek. I stand corrected, he did a lot post-Bart.
The mother and daughter from 1:05 were actually looking at Garner in "Gun-Shy." Kelly's older sister was Nancy Kelly, a movie actress who played the leading lady in films like "Jesse James" with Tyrone Power and Henry Fonda, and "Stanley and Livingstone" opposite Spencer Tracy, both in 1939. So Jack Kelly was overshadowed by both a fictional sibling and a real one. After the series, he did a few guest shots on westerns like "Wagon Train" then faded into game shows and commercial voice-overs.
whats really chilling here is that damned song by the Everly Brothers. Yikes how much they sound like the Beatles early Beatles: Phil and his bro should sue for plagarism.
This is so cool! Bart Maverick was always my favorite of the brothers. Thank you so much for posting this and giving Jack Kelly his due. This series was probably the most fun of all the westerns of it's era, simply because of the excellent cast, and the humor that was present, especially in the episodes where Jack Kelly and James Garner played off of each other.
My Grandparents introduced my to Maverick. That show is the BOSS! I would have to say out of all of the Mavericks, Beau is my favorite. He's suave, plus, He's James Bond!
I didn't care for the series until I saw the Jack Kelly episodes. His Maverick seemed more of a multidimensional character than Garner's, although the best eps were those where both appeared--their sibling rivalry was hilarious.

I've been a Maverick fan since I was a just a boy. This is a beautiful tribute to Jack Kelly. He truly deserves it. Thanks.
And by the way, great song ... who is that? Again thanks!

Thanks for posting this. Personally I enjoyed the Bart episodes even better than the ones featuring Garner. But all are great.
