  • This can be very serious. A long time ago, i had a kitten. when he was 6 months old, he had an attack just like this, and i watched helplessly as he died right in front of me on the floor. I panicked and tried to put my nebulizer near his face and it didnt help at all. he was dead in less than ten minutes, i was young and didnt know what to do. i had only seen him do this like one other time, and he died right in front of me.

  • Thank you so much for posting this...it is helping me understand what's going on with my kitty. Hope yours is doing ok!

  • 30 pills for $30, is what I meant.

  • that stinks, I know it's hard to set priorities. If it helps, my cat's treatment was very reasonable, about $30 for a steroid pill which was cut in half so it lasted 2 months. She maybe could've been on something stronger, but it really did cut down on the attacks.

  • Argh, my cat has been doing this off and on for a few months now and its really starting to get to me. Money is super tight right now but watching him go through an attack like this is heartbreaking....

  • It's possible. But I think it was more or less old age, she was 18 when she passed and she started wasting away and went very quickly. I miss her tons still.

  • I think Kitty needs an inhaler! Poor thing! I've got asthma myself though I can't imagine having an attack and a possible hairball at the same time!

  • Search: "Ask the APCC: The Scoop on Febreze, Please" ... APCC = Animal Poison Control Center, they say Febreze is ok, pet owners on ASPCA Blog write they think it isn't ... There are lots of chemicals being used today in the home, more than at any other time in history. My guess is these cats are having a reaction to chemical, maybe formaldehyde in the carpet, or some chemical used to clean the carpet, maybe the scent in laundry detergents (they sleep on the bed, and get mucus, a stuffy nose).

  • Maybe that's from scents, like a fabric softener like Bounce. Scents are the waste product of the petroleum industry. Febreze is like rat poison to cats. The ASPCA says that's an urban legend, but I don't believe that. I have gone all unscented, and personally feel better (unscented safflower handmade soap, Borax, baking soda, table salt to clean). Check out the EWG video "What is Fragrance?" /watch?v=sN5IiaOaIt8

  • How much does the shot cost?

  • I didn't realise this could be asthma. That explains a lot of why my cat and I both started having breathing problems when we introduced hay into the house.

  • My cat does that >.>

  • my cats been like this untreated for a long time now... i feel bad :(

  • I think my cat was like this for awhile too, I thought it was hairballs for a long time, but then she was asleep and started making noises as she exhaled, even after she woke up, so that's how I found out. Her case was actually fairly mild as my mom's cat has asthma and her coughing fits look a lot worse. Check out the other vids, they can show you. Anyway, the guilt gets to me since my cat's dead now, but it's rather useless to feel it as long as you do something about it now.

  • :O

    . . .

    :(

MY cat has it really bad. we need to get poor jimmy some meds.

  • Hi,

My cat does this, he done it on sunday, he's also done it many times before, do you think we should go to the vet or leave it, hes almost 2 years Old... ?

  • Yes, take the cat to the vet. All pet owners have the responsibility of making an animal as comfortable as possible, as much as their finances permit. And if not able, then to make sure the pet gets to a home that can

  • Thanks i will :) xxxxxxxxx

  • my cat has these spells except his are more violent..vet has narrowed it down to asthma..he has been responding to the shots but got one about a week ago and is not better, taking him back tomorrow..my sympathies on the loss of your lovely kitty..I always cry for days

  • She passed away but she was 18, so she had a good long life. As far as what eventually caught up to her, it may have had to do with this asthma as she developed it late in life. The vet thinks she had a heart worm die and move to her lung, and warned me it could happen again and kill her (nothing could be done really) so it might have been this. She just wasted away and died relatively peacefully at home with me. I miss her lots.

  • wow 17 yrs old cat...i guess it just like humans when we are old we get sick easier

  • Yeah she will be 18 this Christmas. Unfortunately she's taken a bad turn that I don't think is asthma related and I don't expect her to be with me much longer. Poor kitty.

  • sorry to hear that, yeah I know that kinda feeling!

  • Yes - this looks like Asthma. You may want to check the plants in the area he/she may contact as these can cause allergy asthma... something as simple as a box hedge plant (Buxos) may cause this... it is good to look a the environment to rule out causes... best of luck with your gorgoeus feline!

  • maybe the cat is allergic TO HUMANS !!!!! I am serious, there are academic studies !

  • Actually my vet thinks heartworms caused this after 17 years of near perfect health. For the love of God give your cat heartworm medicine regularly!

  • Its not asthma! its a hairballs !

All cats get them..you give the cat some special

    paste from a petshop..

  • No, she's been diagnosed with asthma from a vet, and hairballs sound a heck of a lot different. That usually starts with the "ump ump ump ump" Sound of vomiting

  • WTF?!
