  • Reading the book right now :-).

  • I love seeing Mia so young. She was always a star.

  • I was 15 when this premiered on the telly. Although it didn't really interest me, I would occasionally view it with my mom. It was considered very controversial, for that period in time.....although, by today's standards, this is a Girl Scout party! It was nothing, compared to the graphic, in your face subject matter and dialogue, that passes as programming, these days. I always watched the beginning of the show, because I loved the beautiful and haunting theme song.

  • to note

god, Ed Nelson, he appeared in many tv appearances and several 50s b sci fi movies. His appearances spanned from a ill-fated pilot in "airport 1975" to a kidnapped mayor in third "police academy". also seen in the other heston-smight "midway" and a bit in "elmer gantry". busy supporting stars.

    who else knows this?

  • i little public punishment, now and then, would be a very good idea for today. this world has gone to shit

  • mia here reminds me of luna in harry potter .... at 1:32

  • One of the best tv shows of the time, I never missed one of them. Mia was my favourite in it. Happy to say I now own the whole set of DVDs . The 60s was the best for everything so happy i lived through that time, i wished i could have it all back again.

  • And this was 'Sex and The City' and 'Desperate Housewives' of the 1950s?

  • @granddad2002 You mean the '60s. Yep, pretty much. Peyton Place was a hit.

  • 3:00 Ryan asks:You know the first thing I did this morning? She should have said: "What, looked in the mirror and threw kisses to yourself?"

He's so vain..he always thinks the songs are about him. lol

  • 3:02 Ryan asks:"You know what I did first this this morning when I woke up?"She shoulda said: "Looked in the mirror and threw kisses to yourself"

YUCK....can't stand that man! He's so vain...he always thinks the song is about him

  • I remember watching this when I was around 12 and was not supposed to as it was on late at night I liked it, mild to some today not that they are to over the top, some anyway

  • @adnawWW i misses those days-people moved much slower back then and appreciated life much more-i was in 3rd grade when this show came out

  • I like the movie.

  • i like Mia Farrow and Ryan Oneil in peyton Place !!they were great its a shame there are no more shows like this out there !! i really liked it and hope that it will be on dvd in the future

  • i like Mia Farrow and Ryan Oneil in peyton Place !!they were great its a shame there are no more shows like this out there !!

  • Peyton Place inspired Knots Landing in the 80s which in turn inspired Desperate Housewives & One Tree Hill in the 00s

  • @prueisgr8 Not to mention Dallas and Dynasty.

  • that ryan was handsome back in the day...mmmmmm:)

  • Peyton Place (Gilmanton, New Hampshire). GraceMetalious ripped the lid off of the stench-filled community; & they despised her for it. Instead of appreciating the fact that she let some fresh air into the staid, puritanical caldron; the reaction was torrid shunning. How anal can one town be? I've interviewed folks there, (who referred to Grace as “Gracie” in an affectionate tone); who quietly seemed happy she wrote what she did.She is buried in Gilmanton Iron Works, Smith Meeting House Cemetery

  • @ingravegreen

I was nine in 1964,but didn't start seeing Peyton Place until 1966. I was eleven then and was initially infatuated with Allison.:-)

Peyton Place aired nothing but new episodes even during the summer months-and in it's second season was on three times a week.I was caught up in so many of the storlyines-as were my brother, my mother and both my grandmothers.(Chuckle!)

I gave up seeing Peyton Place at about the time Dorothy Malone and Tim O'Conner left.

  • Great Acting.......I don't know why I let this pass me by, maybe because I was only 9 when the series started and 14 when it ended. I do remember it in the backround while I was doing other things.

  • I rented the first season on netflix. wish they had more available. i was about 12yrs old when peyton place first aired. love the theme song too!!

  • 5:03 (Betty) "Welcome to our Puritan village." I guess between a pillory & a '64 T-Bird ...(it's like night & day). Speaking of which at 1:23 it's behind Allison. 10secs later it's gone! 2:05 it's there again. 2:20 she walks toward it!

The people at + 0:30 they walk into *a picture*. (2nd scene of the abc series, but) those buildings are NOT a part of what became the main square of the nighttime soap.

  • In the original movie (& prob. the novel) Betty was a tramp. And treated as such, (a rather minor character). By '64 guess mores were achangin'. Thus the part about the pillory, ("But like every girl in today's PP..knowing it didn't stop her from giving her love." Pretty bold for 1964.). Reminds you of NE Salem witch trials & The Scarlet Letter.

Imagine Betty in the backseat of a shiny new T-bird, there's something to be said about the pre-free love 1960s!

  • Nostalgic

  • i wish i could get this in the UK. looks incredibly ahead of its time.

  • "Was I?"

    "Yes you were."

    hihi

  • Mia Farrow is adorable

  • Wow! I can't believe they had story lines like this way back then!

  • BARBARA PARKINS WAS SEXY -

  • The Black and White Episodes aired from 1964 until 1966. The episodes of Peyton Place in color aired from 1966 until 1969. A total of 514 episodes were produced for ABC-TV and 20th Century Fox Television.

  • Betty Anderson sure was beautiful!

I did like Allison and a few others, though.I always liked her better in the first year or so before her car accident.

  • At least 4 Ford Thunderbirds show up in the background during the first 2 minutes.

  • WOW,great quality black and white film, and look at them old cars.

  • Remember when it was shown thinking how well it was shot. Great photography!

  • This filming looks like high definition black and white. For b/w the filming is great.

  • Would love to see more! I'm intrigued! Didn't think I would be of an old b&w 60s soap. My goodness, Farrow and O'Neil are so young here. Thanks for posting this!

  • The actress speaking with Mia is very pretty and is a good actress. Wonder who she is.

  • @7beers

Barbara Parkins. She was also in Valley of the Dolls. She's the one who went back home at the end. Great actress.

  • @7beers

You should see her in later seasons, she became even more stunning as the show progressed.

  • @carmenjones411

you mean she got finally some thinner legs and hips?

  • I think her figure looks fine, she was still young and had a little puppy fat, as the show progressed her face and figure did slim down, but Barbara was never a stick.

  • This really makes a person think...about installing a urinal in the garage.

  • My God, all those books that Mia was holding...! A bit excessive, no? She could hardly wrap her arms around them. She didn't have a bag or a satchel or a backpack or a CART to put them in?

  • @larrynod She wouldn't have a "Satchel" for another 20 years buda ching

  • Where can we see this?

  • Hey thanks for this. Sure brings back great memories. I was addicted to Barbara Parkins.

  • the dvd's rock!

  • I loved Barbara Parkins in Valley of the Dolls.

  • she looks like kate moss

  • Brilliant series - I was addicted to it and fell in love with Mia Farrow!!!

  • @tapyeno

Sounds like a quote from Frank Sinatra!

  • My mother (who claimed to HATE soaps!) was addicted to this show. She would send me from the room when it came on because it was "scandalous" LOL...

  • Ohh, the memories. I was fortunate enough to have been here for the 1960s and well remember this show, although as a kid I watched it simply because my mom watched it. Such simpler, more wholesome times, when America was still America. I wish we could have those years back. Thanks for sharing.

  • @GuinevereJuliet

Simpler, more wholesome times, yes!, but no thanks to Grace Metalious' seminal novel, which blew the doors off of prissy American mores of the 50s! It was considered highly salacious in its day, which means of course that it was an instant best seller.

  • I remember this from my childhood. I'd watch it with my family and i think at one time it was on like 3 nights a week which was unheard of at that time for a dramatic series.

  • Truly, one of the great Television shows. I grew up to this and it was always so effective and powerful.. Just great!

  • was payton place a town or an area in a town, i love old shows like this

  • It was a town--in New Hampshire in the book, but changed to Massachusetts for the TV show.

  • ok thank you for the info

  • I just started second grade back then.

  • I loved this show as a young child...the best memories

  • I was about 12 or so when this came out..Never missed it..Great show and great memories as you said..Loved it !!..

  • memories...such a nice sorprise...to this again...i was just a kid..... wonderful...!!!!

  • At this point in the story, Betty is about to learn that she is pregnant with Rodney's (Ryan O' Neal) baby. They had been dating, but Rodney had broken up with her when he learned that his father and Betty's mother were having an affair. Betty convinces Rodney to drive out to the lake where they first made love and tells him she's pregnant. Rodney is upset by the news and on the drive back they have a car accident. Betty loses the baby, but doesn't tell Rodney and tricks him into marrying her.

  • @loafersguy Naughty boy and girl , it shouldn't have been allowed !!!

  • so was Betty preggers or had a social disease?

  • Damn Barbara Parkins is soooo fine!

  • Boy, I'll say!! VA VA VA VOOOM!

  • Iam interesterd in the episodes not so much the movies, how much are the episodes, my sister and i use to watch it each week we loved it, but when it finished poor doctor rossie was still in jail ?

  • One of the the truly great soap operas, true to life and superbly written and acted.I am so glad this is now available on dvd the 2 volumes of which will be winging their way to England very shortly.

  • Thank you for sharing this. It was before my time, but I've heard so much about it!

Mia married Frank Sinatra around this time too, and cut her hair off too.
