Got the 2 disc directors cut of this on DVD and thought it was a very intelligent and well made movie. Despite the 2 and a half hour running time I didn't find myself getting bored at any point.

They never caused any murders, only stating that they were responsible for murders that were in the newspaper, which were all probably random acts. It all worked out perfectly fine due to no one would interfere with their game due to who would ever confess their crime only to tell that this misleading
ALA worked closely with the killer, who planned all this too good for the SFPD to do anything about it. Zodiac used Arthur as his disguise, which would give him all the time he need to make his killings and then disappear again, making everyone think its Arthur all over. Graysmith writes in his book that there must have been two, since all this work with letters, symbols, calling the SFPD and so on is impossible for one man to do, when he had to take care of the murders as well. There you go.
Its simply too "easy" to accuse him, everything matches as I just stated so it must have been him, right? No. Here is what I think. There are two guys involved, the real Zodiac is working together with Arthur, and trying to make it look like its him. They both know he will never end up in jail, cause the police will never find the final evidence, because Arthur never killed anyone. Nor did he write any of the letters (later proven by DNA tests).
Its not Arthur Leigh Allen, and here is why. First of all, here is the reason why it could be him:
1. Wearing a Zodiac watch. 2. Was at the lake when the couple got murdered. 3. When he was sent to jo jail for child molestation all the letters suddenly stopped and began again shortly after he was released. 4. He called Mulanax stating it was his birthday (december 18th), and needed to kill. It is now a known fact that this is the date of his birthday.
Heard the single flute note when the killer shoots at 0.12 and thought the whole thing was going to have a Jethro Tull / jazz-flute soundtrack. I now have a soft-on. It's funny how Fincher could have made such a pointed, focused thriller as this and also make something as nebulous as Benjamin Button. But I'm loyal.

@AQGOAT24 OK, I've just seen it, and just as expected it's not comedic at all. There may be a few halfway funny moments with Downey Jr., but apart from that it's "simply" a thriller. And a good one indeed. Not too intense (compared to Se7en, for example), but highly entertaining and very well made. As sethvicious already said, Fincher knows what he's doing. :)
David Fincher is one of my favorite directors. After brilliant Seven, Alien 3, Fight Club and Panic Room I had to watch Zodiac too. It was real challenge cause the story is based on true events. The whole film was good but still not what I'd expect. The atmos[here wasn't as scary/thrilling as it was in The Silence of the Lambs, Copycat, Seven or even The Zodiac (version 2005 with Justin Chambers & Robin Tunney). Anyway Mark Ruffalo showed brilliant acting. Gyllenhaal & Downey Jr. were great too

Loved the movie, hoping someone could clear up one thing for me- I didn't quite understand the significance of Jake Gyllenhal's character going to interview that one man (the one who used to work in a movie theatre with the film strips in his basement) near the end. It seemed like he was in one scene and that was it. Was he just meant to be another possible suspect?

It's quite hard to follow, Fincher stated he wanted the film to be quite accurate, and a lot of information will be thrown out to you each scene. I enjoyed it, but I could understand why people wouldn't.
I like horror movies, but lately it's been nothing but gore, slashing, bloods and fakes.. Nothing seems creepy and scary anymore.. At this point there are 1 of a few posibilities.
#1 The Zodiac Killer is dead
#2Arthur Leigh Allen was the killer but died before questioning could continue or
#3 Robert Graysmith wasted years of his life trying to solve a case that in then end made him obsessive and distant from his wife and family.
But as a whole this movie was one of the very best of the decade. It placed at #7 on my list of the best films of the decade.

Heard the single flute note when the killer shoots at 0.12 and thought the whole thing was going to have a Jethro Tull / jazz-flute soundtrack. I now have a soft-on. It's funny how Fincher could have made such a pointed, focused thriller as this and also make something as nebulous as Benjamin Button. But I'm loyal.

@AQGOAT24 I haven't seen it either, but I remember that there was a trailer of Shining, that made it look like a great comedy, somehow, even though it just used scenes from the movie.

@AQGOAT24 OK, I've just seen it, and just as expected it's not comedic at all. There may be a few halfway funny moments with Downey Jr., but apart from that it's "simply" a thriller. And a good one indeed. Not too intense (compared to Se7en, for example), but highly entertaining and very well made. As sethvicious already said, Fincher knows what he's doing. :)

David Fincher is one of my favorite directors. After brilliant Seven, Alien 3, Fight Club and Panic Room I had to watch Zodiac too. It was real challenge cause the story is based on true events. The whole film was good but still not what I'd expect. The atmos[here wasn't as scary/thrilling as it was in The Silence of the Lambs, Copycat, Seven or even The Zodiac (version 2005 with Justin Chambers & Robin Tunney). Anyway Mark Ruffalo showed brilliant acting. Gyllenhaal & Downey Jr. were great too

Great movie, Incredible director (even if he is an asshole) but absolutely shit trailer. Whats with the jazzy upbeat music towards the end??? Is this a comedy or a fucking film about a mass murderer???
Whoever made the trailer should be fired!
And @ TerryMalick - The reason why this is so underrated is because this trailer blows and didn't get half the amount of people in seats the way a good trailer would have.

Loved the movie, hoping someone could clear up one thing for me- I didn't quite understand the significance of Jake Gyllenhal's character going to interview that one man (the one who used to work in a movie theatre with the film strips in his basement) near the end. It seemed like he was in one scene and that was it. Was he just meant to be another possible suspect?

Every character in this film works. It's realistically intense, it looks beautiful and the tone is mezmerizing. One of my all time favorite films.

@akyl412 I agree...totally underrated Fincher film. I absolutely loved it...watched it twice back to back and still pull out the DVD from time to time and see something each time I didn't see before. I also loved the music and how it was used in the film. He's a genius.

@cindyinnew Yes, very good but long, complex and talky ; it reminds me of 'All The Presidents' Men' in many ways with elements of (notably the obsession of Jake's character) 'Close Encounters Of The Third Kind'

It's quite hard to follow, Fincher stated he wanted the film to be quite accurate, and a lot of information will be thrown out to you each scene. I enjoyed it, but I could understand why people wouldn't.

I like horror movies, but lately it's been nothing but gore, slashing, bloods and fakes.. Nothing seems creepy and scary anymore.. The last scary movie I ever watch was the texas chainsaw and the hills have eyes.. All the other horror movie I've seen is garbage.. I haven't watch Zodiac yet, so is this a good movie or not?

It's a really great movie, but it isn't horror... It's more like a Mistery movie or a thriller.. Anyway, it's worth a look.

Its a great movie its not really a horror movie but a thriller drama. if u love movies about serial killers than you would love this. theres a few chilling moments too. watch it.

@lilcrazyaznboy Uh, you sort of contradict yourself. You said horror movies these days are nothing but gory and slashing. Aren't Texas Chainsaw and Hills Have Eyes that way too? I haven't seen them, but they do seem quite gory and nothing much.

Watch The Hills have eyes part 1, and watch Texas chainsaw.. There's a big difference between past horror, and nowadays horror.
