Canceling the Sequel and remaking the game was a mistake. The REAL mistake was trying to make it look realistic and censoring all the Swears in it. The game was mean to have a Cartoonish Feel to it. Hence the goofy sound effects and the fact that he's, you know, a Squirrel rather than a Human or something. The Swearing made it marginally more entertaining to the Younger audience even though parents wouldn't usually allow their children to play it.

Cartoons back in the day could get away with all sorts of suggestive stuff, but now a single phallic metaphor, reference, or anything basically and the parents go insane. And its not quite how you say it. Not every parent spoils the shit out of their kids. I happened to be one of them, I've saved up my money for every console I've ever owned. Plus the games. Even today kids don't always get it because of Parental stuff.

Conker's sprite (in clothing) also resembles what's recognizable of what he's wearing on the gbp/gbc-game...

If they had released this version instead of what we actually got afterwards, it would have sold allot more copies, and it would have become a very successful franchise. However, the version we got just didn't sell all that well, and is just a "cult" classic with mature gamers. The gaming world was much different back then with the politics, and what parents would allow their kids to buy. Always exceptions, but for this game, I think it would have went on to do much better, business wise.
