Most pentatonic stuff would be two notes per string, what would be in this type of legato very much too less. These are major-scales. Three note per string groupings moved up and down the neck. its just pentatonics man, BUT he's using a lot of grace notes which are a huge part of Indian music. Vai uses grace notes like a mofo.
