after seeing royce i always wondered how bruce would've fared against a very good grappler, because i dont see anything about grappling in Jeet Kune Do. but everyone and their mother knows bruce was a master striker.

JKD includes MANY grappling techniques from various styles including judo, wresting and jiu jitsu.

He trained with the top grapplers of the day including the legendary Gene Le bell.

Gene has stated that Bruce Lee loved grappling - he really ate it up.

Whether he could beat an expert grappler on the ground such as Royce Gracie, I just dont know.

Bruce made sure to include a lot of REALLY "dirty" tactics to the ground skills he learned though so that would help him out a bit.

i love how even at the time he lived in, his interest in martial arts weren't limited to rules, hence you didnt hear much of him being in competitions; he preferred no rules street fighting, and was one of the smartest most strong fighters in the world

Bruce Lee was an exceptional martial artist.

He really lived and breathed it to the fullest.

His philosophies etc were brilliant.

WAAAAY ahead of his time.

There were actually no holds barred fighting competitions taking place at his time...infact even before Bruce was born.

But they were all underground affairs and took place in Brazil - they were called Vale Tudo...the UFC came from it.

but i always kind of pictured Machida's intelligent style to be what Bruce would have fought like, but maybe a little more on the 'Machida vs Evans' fight where he exploded and threw a big cluster of accurate blows. from what i've read, he was good at chaining clean hits with true power that way and had defeated someone in a contest by starting off like that.

You know, MMA has grown past the Gracies, but give credit where credit is due. The Gracie family brought respect back to jujutsu, judo, and grappling in general. They made it respectable to wear a gi again and brought value back to the black belt. They showed the structure of a real fight. They launched two new sports in America.

try judo. most judo clubs are very cheap and teach alot of newaza ( ground fighting) judo newaza is simia;r to BJJ except you cant do leg locks or neck cranks in judo. but you will find alot of the chokes and arm lock are the same.

judo does teach escapes from guillotine chokes!! the guillotine choke is a legal and often used choke in judo. what do you think we do if we get put in a guillotine just sub? of course not we have to fight out and escape from it. judo teaches escapes from all of its holds and locks. what judo doesnt teach is any form of joint lock on the legs or neck cranks

trust me theres deffinatly guillotine escapes aswell as escape from all the other chokes and holds in judo. do you practise judo? if you did then you would know that its taught. also the best way of defending the guillotine is not getting caught in the position to get choked in the first place.
