@gr187 Yes I am well aware of that and have been for quite some time, what I was doing was responding with humor and sarcasm, showing that troll that he will not be taken seriously
When someone calls the Gracies "mediocre" it's like calling Babe Ruth a mediocre player vs todays players. The Gracies OWN this shit. It's a fact. Their style is still used today by fighters all over the world. The old man is a legend in martial arts. They aren't showmen, they are fighters, Their style bored the WWF crowd but the martial arts practitioners out there played their matches over and over trying to see what the hell these guys were doing.
You know, MMA has grown past the Gracies, but give credit where credit is due. The Gracie family brought respect back to jujutsu, judo, and grappling in general. They made it respectable to wear a gi again and brought value back to the black belt. They showed the structure of a real fight. They launched two new sports in America.
Just because Royce, who is older and fighting incredible athletes with a perfect combination of striking, takedowns, and groundfighting, can't hang anymore doesn't mean squat. Rorion is a good business man. And in his day, he was a decent fighter.
Indeed. All things progress and even BJJ itself is more advanced than it was 15 years ago. I remember when it was frowned upon to do leg locks. Now, just about every BJJ school teaches heel hooks and knee bars. All things progress.
Rorion is also a street fighter and never declined a single fight in all his life and you say that it's a business man... Man you are all WRONG go educate yourself about the Gracie family.
@civicturbolive Rorion WAS a street fighter, most of the Gracies wont back down from street fights. Now days he is a business man whose methods can be seen as mediocre in the eyes of the rest of the fight world. Dont believe me? Check out the Fightworks podcasts one with Renzo Gracie and a follow up show with Rener Gracie discussing Rorion and his methods vs what Renzo advocates for
@peltiersupporter imo they way i see it Rorion is really good at teaching the old gracie familly way, in person not with this retarted online belts stuff... but even then they dont teach what helio used to teach, they way they used to teach ie using postive reinforcemant etc is really good and well thought out, the online stuff tho hmmmz fail
@lagook Yeah there is no denying the fact that Rorion is a great teacher and embraces the fundamentals of GJJ however with this online belt test thing and the fact that his academy turned down a Renzo student due to a debate about "pure GJJ" has made me question the man
@civicturbolive the guy is more of a business man than a jiu jitsu practicioner...a red belt is acquired over a period of time after getting a black belt however Rorion kissed up enough to where he got one early...if you have a problem with me putting a pop up over Rorion im sure there are other videos you can find where you can stare at his face all you want
American people ruined the art of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu and corrupted it i think the only way to learn pure Gracie Jiu Jitsu is to learn from The Gracie Academy or someone who is a certified Gracie Jiu Jitsu instructor
ok but we must look at philosophy for stategy of martial arts-Judo strategy-grab,takedown and armbar of anything neutralitcs move but bjj or jiu jitsu strategy-grab or takedown and techniques on ground for totaly destroy (not really destory opponent ) ok do you understant? bjj is for street fight but in 1 vs 1 but judo is not for street fight its good for nothing...
try judo. most judo clubs are very cheap and teach alot of newaza ( ground fighting) judo newaza is simia;r to BJJ except you cant do leg locks or neck cranks in judo. but you will find alot of the chokes and arm lock are the same.
judo does teach escapes from guillotine chokes!! the guillotine choke is a legal and often used choke in judo. what do you think we do if we get put in a guillotine just sub? of course not we have to fight out and escape from it. judo teaches escapes from all of its holds and locks. what judo doesnt teach is any form of joint lock on the legs or neck cranks
hmm i looked at judo unleashed book and there were no guillotine choke escapes, and i seen mike swains video series and nothing on that either.... gracie jiujitsu is for the street... but i am not knocking judo, i just said they dont have guillotine escape, something that is comming in street fighting
trust me theres deffinatly guillotine escapes aswell as escape from all the other chokes and holds in judo. do you practise judo? if you did then you would know that its taught. also the best way of defending the guillotine is not getting caught in the position to get choked in the first place.
but gracie jiujitsu emphasizes guillotine choke escapes in the context of street fighting.. in judo tournament no one is going to pull that move off, that is why anyone is susestable to it... and jiujitsu teaces this move alot
so does judo. judo is taught as a sport and as a street fighting art, the same as bjj is taught as a sport and gjj is taught as a street fighting art.

after seeing royce i always wondered how bruce would've fared against a very good grappler, because i dont see anything about grappling in Jeet Kune Do. but everyone and their mother knows bruce was a master striker.
TruNikkaz 1 year ago
@TruNikkaz
JKD includes MANY grappling techniques from various styles including judo, wresting and jiu jitsu.
He trained with the top grapplers of the day including the legendary Gene Le bell.
Gene has stated that Bruce Lee loved grappling - he really ate it up.
Whether he could beat an expert grappler on the ground such as Royce Gracie, I just dont know.
Bruce made sure to include a lot of REALLY "dirty" tactics to the ground skills he learned though so that would help him out a bit.
SkemeKOS 1 year ago
@SkemeKOS
yeah i love talking about bruce actually because of his brilliant philosophies
i love how even at the time he lived in, his interest in martial arts weren't limited to rules, hence you didnt hear much of him being in competitions; he preferred no rules street fighting, and was one of the smartest most strong fighters in the world
id love for him to be alive so i could talk to him and see what he thinks about mma, the fighters and the skills within.
TruNikkaz 1 year ago
@TruNikkaz
Yeah, me too.
Bruce Lee was an exceptional martial artist.
He really lived and breathed it to the fullest.
His philosophies etc were brilliant.
WAAAAY ahead of his time.
There were actually no holds barred fighting competitions taking place at his time...infact even before Bruce was born.
But they were all underground affairs and took place in Brazil - they were called Vale Tudo...the UFC came from it.
