  • Simple yet very expressing words come from the heart. Mr. Manillow laid it perfectly

  • Definitely one of the less known songs by Barry Manilow but I love this song. saabatch87, Thanks for uploading!

  • Although this song has been around for years, I just discovered it and it is so very beautiful . I read that Johnny Mercer left a trunkful of lyrics to his widow, and wanted her to give this particular one to Barry Manilow. How wise he was.

  • I love this song, but what does it mean ?

  • @ilovesexilovenaked

I think that it is about a man looking back in life...the youth and the love are no longer around!

  • gr8 stuff ...thanks for posting

  • In the past 2 weeks I have lost my son-in-law and my dr. and both were sudden deaths. My heart aches so much for my daughter who lost the love of her life. I just pray that she can and will keep on going. This beautiful song "When October Goes" is so appropiate. Thanks for listening.

  • I LOVE THIS SONG .. I BEEN A FAN OF BARRY SINCE I WAS N MIDDLE SCHOOL .. THIS SONG BRING TEARS TO MY EYES CAUSE ITS SO LOVELY .. SPECIAL THE PIANO SOLO .. .. IT'S SO SO LOVELY,SMOOTH, AND ROMANTIC SONG EVER ..

  • I love his music he's truly the king of the power ballads

This is one of Barry's lesser known songs

But i think it is one of his best

Thank you for having this song

  • One of Barry's best beautiful

  • Monica Mancini did a fantastic version of this but I can't find it on youtube. But this is a masterpiece!

  • hello Sherry and Tonia...remember the times.

  • great job!

  • What a great great song, but hearing it reminds me of the end of baseball season.

  • I still think of my dad with this song -- lost him in 2006 October - so I replace "in your arms" with *in my life*

  • I miss you Harry.

  • Paul, if you ever read this, it will never be too late to call me.

    Rich

  • @rkrealtorva I'm here baby Been thinking of you Song reminds me of all of our great times spent together.\ Why have we wasted all that time in between?

  • Just thought I would add that this whole album was done in just one take. That is talent!

  • Beautiful video for a beautiful song.

Wish someone would do Sunrise by

    Manilow, too.

  • I purchased the Paradise Cafe album in vinyl when it came out and have not played it in years. I try to remember to play this song in October. I have been listening to it the last few days and cannot get enough of it. Thank you Johnny Mercer and Barry Manilow for a beautiful work of art. Thank you saabatch87 for posting it.

  • My father died on October 8 of this year. Three days later Mom and I buried his earthly body on the 40th anniversary of the death of her father and my grandfather. I fell in love with this song many years ago, so much so that I sang it in a local variety show in Birmingham three years ago. After this October, however, I may never sing it again; the hurt's too deep right now.

  • Remember his spirit longs for you to sing it again...

  • Sing it and be happy for the good memories of the good men in your life.

  • Never realized how much this song I hold close, as it hits home. My Maryann will always be in my heart until we meet again. (11/3/06). This one's for you babe.

  • The great lyricist, Johnny Mercer wrote these words before his death, never having them put to music, until his widow asked Barry Manilow, if he could write the music to fit her husbands words....now you hear Johnny's words...to Barry's music. 10+ stars!

  • I first heard this on the radio on a October day in '84, upon returning to campus. I had been in 2 hospitals, having nearly died of a broken heart. Bittersweet memories indeed will always be a part of who I am.

  • R.I.P Sandy 9-25-08 sister

    Joe 8-12-94 brother

my grandparents , miss you all

I will with this broken heart till the end of my time...linda

  • Great job on the video ! The still photos allow for the song to breathe and create room for reflection. Thank you so much for the time you spent creating this work !

  • I don't comment on Youtube too often, but I want to thank you for putting this vieo up here for me to watch.

I'm a late-October baby and I have always hated to see October go. I am 38 now and remember loving this song 20 years ago.

It's been that long since I have heard it but I could sing every word along with him.

What a sad song, but again, thank you.

  • This has become a favorite song of mine....really brings my age to reality!!!

  • I cry everytime I hear this song.

  • Me, too. The video compliments it perfectly. I'm happily married, but this song just kills me.

  • Beautiful!

  • Thanks for your great images to go along with this ever so beautifully mournful song!

  • Walking down Shaw street to go to highschool at Central Commerce. How I wish I could turn the hands of time back!

  • heard this one the radio way back in the late '80s early '90s was it??? sitting on my bed, watching out the window...the wind blowing, the leaves whirling around and around and around in the street darkening...the long cold and darkening street.

    -Muhldoon

  • That's beautiful....

  • been a favorite forever! Today is OCT 31St WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

    sniffle sniffle

  • This song will always have a place in my heart,

  • His live version of this song is the best you will ever hear.

  • I agree, it's beautiful.

  • The tape on which this song was listed was one of the best Barry every released. I played it until it wore out and was never able to find another one. I think it was "Paradise Cafe" from the early '80's. Barry's the best!

  • You can find it on the 'Two Nights Live' CD double album. The whole album is just fantastic. Buy it now & enjoy!!

  • I was 15 when this was released, and I loved it the second I heard it. They used to play it in late 1984 on KFI 640 Los Angeles. I was able to pull in the signal all the way up near the Oregon border in Crescent City; I still have this song on a tape I recorded from the radio (KFI). It's one of my favourite songs to sing; I wish I could find a Karaoke version. Thanks for posting this! Great memories.

  • It's almost the time of the year to listen to this song...it brings so much bitterness

  • And yes, SKINNYBEAR, I do put this album on every November... :-) Man... Sarah Vaughn, Mel Tormé... what a great album "2 A.M. Paradise Café" was!

  • I agree, songs like this one are few a far between these days. You used to always hear a song somewhere that evoked a memory or two as this song does for me:.-(

  • Nice video to one of my favorites.

  • I love Barry. He is so cool. does anyone have the copy with Nancy Wilson singing it? She does a great job too.

  • Barry is my favorite. I love this song.

  • tammy this one is for you baby i never have forgotten....

  • this song touches my heart everytime i hear it. i love how barry manilow can do that so wonderfully

  • Such a great song...but everyone MUST hear Nancy Wilson's version on the sublime CD 'With My Lover Beside Me'...all the lyrics written by the late Johnny Mercer, music by Barry Manilow. Truly a magnificent CD!!!!

  • This song is bittersweet and brings a tears to my eyes. Thank you for posting this song and the wonderful heartwarming pictures are just fabulous.

  • Bittersweet describes this song perfectly. It is rich in meaning and evokes so much imagery.

  • not even barry will ever know what this song means to me, beautiful job on this video, thanks, jimi some day one day................

  • Just how hard can you cry?!

  • I don't know--how hard can you be alive?

This song doesn't make me cry, it just brings me back to places in time that will always make me a bit melancholy...the way I always feel when the last leaf falls from the tree.

  • Johnny Mercer and Barry Manilow-- what a wonderful combination for a beautiful song. Johnny Mercer was a gifted poet, and I love his lyrics. "My huckleberry friend" Johnny Mercer.

  • After Johnny Mercer died, his widow sent a bunch of unfinished lyrics to Barry, asking him to compose to music for them. She said that's what Johnny would've wanted. This song was among them. It's always been one of my favorites, from one of his best albums (Paradise Cafe), and as far as I'm concerned, no one will ever do a better version than he does!

  • Barry owns the rights to the music so there should be no other vesion except his

  • I cry everytime I hear this song. It has so many memories associated with it for me, I always end up losing myself. Thank you for posting this fantastic song!

  • this song will always have a place in my heart

  • Nancy LaMott did this one, coupled with Autumn Leaves, on her "Come Rain or Come Shine, the Songs of Johnny Mercer." I would encourage you to give Nancy a listen.

  • alguien podra leer mis comentarios en español?

  • When October Goes, a melody and a lyric to touch the heart, congradulations for putting together such beautiful images and choosing the right song for that job!

  • Nancy Wilson does the best version of this song but Barry's is OK too.

  • Thanks for the video, I've loved this song, it reminds me of how important it is to hold on to memories and little moments in our lives.

  • thanks so much for one of the most beautiful songs ever. this is one of the only manilow songs i dont have. keep up the good work

  • I have always had a special place for this song in my heart brings back many memories

  • i love this song. barry does it better then anyone else

  • Yes, the song ***was*** written by Johnny Mercer, set to music by Barry. If you have seen him in concert he tells how Johnny's widow gave Barry a trunkful of songs not finished and this is the first he put to music, a beautiful song. I have the box set of Barry's, this is on it and says Mercer/Manilow.... hey check with Barry's fan club on the "BarryNet". I am a Barry fan, named my son Barry so been admirer since the beginning. God Bless Pam

  • Actually, the liner notes say the lyrics were written by Johnny Mercer, and his widow sent them to Barry for him to finish the song. But whichever is correct, it's still a beautiful song.

  • Lyrics by Harry Warren, set to Music by Barry Manilow. Love this song. - pennymusicMAma

  • Thanks for posting this video. Its my very favorite Manilow song. From what I understand its one of his favorites too. Touching photo's too.

  • What a wonderful song and well done on your video. The emotion of the song captivates me, the melancholy and angst, combined with a beautiful melody. It brings back many memories. Thank you.

  • You're welcome delphi5096. I'm sorry for the passing away of your mother though I'm glad this song had touched her in one way or another. May this song continue to touch others lives and give new meaning to one's existence...

  • Thank you for the video. Just before my mother passed away, she said she loved this video and now that she knew her time on the earth was limited due to cancer, it touched her and all of us even more. You have grasped the entire meaning of the song and the images were just right. THANK YOU
