Everyone pray for Aretha Franlkin, she had surgery for ancreatic cancer. I know Vanessa Bell Armstrong is going to be shaken by this. She is one of her favorite singers.
That sounds like Pastor Stanfield on the organ some. If it is, he and Vanessa are really good friends and AGAIN her comment was playful. Can we focus on the sacrifice that Jesus Christ made, which is what this song is about and STOP giving the world a reason to stay away from the church...
I'm looking for 2 songs that I can't seem to find anywhere - "Forgiven" and "All is Well" can anyone help? I thought they were Mattie Moss Clarke pieces but I'm drawing a blank.
Things like this happens, it is clearly the director's position to fix the problem. Not Vanessa!! That was wrong and inappropriate!! That defeats the purpose of the director. And if Mattie Moss Clark was so strict like the say was back, why didnt she jump in then and correct the problem?? I respect Mattie Clark to the fullness bt that was supposed to be her call.
@jovta22 Well, In Momma Mattie's defense: 1) The camera stayed on Vanessa the whole time the incident went down 2) It happened kinda of fast 3) I did hear Momma Mattie in the background giving words. I know you meant any harm. Was just making you aware of a couple things you might have missed that I observed. Be blessed!!!
Mistakes happen with singers and musicians.........But my problem wit this is that the only person that kept bringing it up was Vanessa and she had the mic in her hand. She was wrong and out of order. I mean lets just call it what it was. It took the choir a lil while to catch on but Vanessa went right into the modulation so why not just keep going. The 3 times she made note of their mistake was uncalled for
OK basically what happened was Vanessa fumbled the words to the end of the first verse and instead sung the words to the end of the second verse, so she probably wasn't expecting the modulation when it happened. IT WAS NOT THE MUSICIAN'S FAULT!!!!!!! I'm sure Vanessa probably apologized to him later.
This is coming from a HUGE VBA fan, and I am also both a singer and a musician so I know how it is on both sides.
At 3:47 she looked at the musician and said, "yea, you". Later she said, "he took me up higher". Let's face it people. Let's not blame the musician. Dr. Mattie Moss Clark is directing in this video. He/she would not have modulated without Dr.Clark's signal. Don't forget, Dr. Clark would not hesitate to embarrass someone for mistakes or underperforming. It seems the only person not aware of the key change was VBA. Further, she walks off and Dr. Clark continues the song with Rev. Wright.

She didn't call him out. He messed up and she's the one out front. Either way a modulation in the wrong place is a huge no. Vanessa saved it but if you notice he also screwed the choir up. They weren't ready, so she led them. But long story short Go for the message people and leave the unnecessary judgement to people of the world.
Well, I couldn't hear what she said. Don't get me wrong, I love Vanessa Bell, but if she did put him out there like that, that was not Godly like or very professional. Nobody's perfect, nobody.
First of all... She shouldnt be a diva about it and call him out the way she did..twice..She should be focused on ministering to peolpe and praising the one who gave his son....
why don't all u music pros just savor the lyrics and the meaning that the song is projecting, thats whats really important here, Im sure thats what God would be interested in, that whats being sung from the heart, remember., instead of puting the horse before the cart, as we do all to often.
The organist seemed to be a little in over his head I don't know if he practiced with them but it doesn not really sound like it. If it were me (V.B)I would have continued singing like nothing was wrng whch is wht Iv bn know to do. Talk to him later thats what you do.
As a musician, well just a human, it hurts me to see her being so mean just to cover up her own mistake! I am a HUGE VBA fan, but SHE MESSED UP!!! The band modulated a half-step, so there was no way they "took her up too high"
In the song, isn't a modulation written at that point of the song? Did she forget? If you listen to her album recording of the song she modulates right there on the second verse. Or am I remembering wrong?
well it was messed up how she calle out the piano man but hey he did do horrible. and besides that man i love her voice. she has to be one of the best singers ive ever heard in my life
Lord I know if Mattie could only get to her shoe, it would've been air borne for all of us to see it!! Mattie Moss Clark is the Ike Turner of church choirs--"Sing the song like I told you!!!!!!"
when he modulated it took her by suprise but i dont think she was going after him to embarrass him but said it playfully and moved on... i dont think it was meant to be a big discussion of how professional she is
I'm talking about Detroit having some great gospel artists like The Winans, The Clark Sisters, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Fred Hammond, BeBe and CeCe, Dietrick Haddon, etc.
she said, "he took me up higher!" then somebody said, "sang girl" and gave her the next part. ROTFL
and who is that alto who can't find her note at 6:49.
remember, back in the day it was common practice to correct someone on the spot. i remember singing in a concert and the organist wasn't paying attention and the director was trying to go somewhere different. the director grabbed the nearest thing and threw it at the organist and yelled "pay attention" in the middle of the concert. LOL
im glad this wasnt one of my productions, I would be very upset at everyone. and i would have let her know she was unprofessional. When i become a producer, and an artist is singing for me, i wouldnt let them speak to my auxilleries like that. especially since i want to do live productions
well he should have listened to her voice or watched for mama matties signals, and she should not have embarrassed him on a live recording. Its different in practice, but not live.
Hey all you faithful VBA fans. Mrs. Armstrong's current project "Walking Miracle" has received a Stellar Award Nomination for " Female Artist of the Year!"!!!!!!!! WOW i love dis song but dang she was wrong fo puttin da musician on blast like dat, she woulda gotten da finger right then in FRONT of EVERYBODY dat was wrong!!!
I love to go to detroit michgan here her sing in them clark sisters wow that talent out there i would like to become singer just like them but take some vocals lession
i can see that karen clark sheard you cantell they taught each differt singing style i can here karen clark in vanessa voice they both have that mean growl i love them runs thAt do i wish could sing just like them
I think as far as riffs and runs go, I would say it was Aretha who really started a lot of that and Vanessa and the Clarks took it and ran with it. Remember that all of them are from Detroit (The Land Of Singers). I'm so proud to be from Michigan when I hear talent and gifting like this.
yeah, i think she did kinda forget the words, b/c you can hear the people in the choir trying to get her back on track. But peeps are humans, we all make mistakes. It's all good.
I think the music went that way because Vanessa forgot her lyrics. If you listen to the real recording, the lines before the "key change" error state "But God in His compassion said I'll pay redemptions price/So He took on the form of man and became the perfect sacrifice." She messed up her own lyrics and put the musician in an awkward position then tried to get mad because she forgot the words. Maybe next time she can write the words on a napkin and pull it out her breast before she sings.LOL.
LMAOOOOOOOOOO!!! MAURICE!!! U are a RIOT!!!!!!! I'm on the floor laughing LOLOLOL. LOL @ "Yea you" @ 2:55... Catch me on a bad day, I woulda got up off that organ walked out & let the rest of the song be acapella w/ just her, the drums & the choir. Y she put him on blast like that? Lord folk 4get some words or somethin then always wanna blame the musician. I thought Ashlee Simpson was the only 1 who did folk like that but I guess I was wrong!
I can see why she looked like that! They ain't rehearse that! The key was already a challenge and pushing her to the edge of her range, he made it very difficult and a "screamer" for her!
OK ... the whole exaggerated deal over the key change was so uncalled for and very ametuar..... Sure the musician made a mistake .... but there was no cause for the open attitude in front of the full congregation !!
Thank you!I hate it when ppl embarass musicians like that. Its just so unnecessary & ignorant. I'm sure the organist was already embarassed enough when he/she missed the key change but then 4 Vanessa 2 make a big dramatic scene like that probably make it even worse for whoever was playing. Everyone makes mistakes INCLUDING (but not limited to) forgetting lyrics, LOL! I hope shes not still like that nowadays. I'd rather have been the musician on the drums when Dorinda threw the towel at him!
first of all that is not true the clarks put alums out before Vanessa. They all came up together. You are right the clarks didn't used to run like that back then, but there style evolved, but i wouldn't say they got it from Vanessa I think they gleaned and learned from each other
I know some people that have worked with VBA and have friends/family that have worked with her. They say she is very difficult to work with and can be very rude at times... I was just wondering if that's true.
My brother who lives in Detriot, and who also plays for Twinkie, said that she was indeed toug, but she was just serious about what she did, because she had such a passion for it. That's why she got respect from so many people across the world; But he did say, you had to know her personally. She was so humble, and she always had such an encouraging word, and she Loved everybody who came her way.
That's good. The people that I know had only worked with her one or two times and didn't have a personal relationship with her. Just a music/business relationship.
3:45 was uncalled for. At my church if the choir or praise team or whatever messes up during a song we are NOT supposed to acknowlegde it. Address it in rehearsal and then correct it. Even though they did mess up that "yeah u" during the key change error and her facial expressions were uncalled for too.
What Alot of people fell to realize is that Vanessa was the first to really bring all those runs and riffs to the forefront because if you listen to the Clark's albums from back in the day on sound of gospel they were not doing all those runs and riffs that they are so popular for they didn't really start showcasing that on record until the mid to late 80's. Vanessa was the one, people say the Clarks but we have the records to prove it.
This is true! Vanessa started doing those intricate runs and The Clark Sisters ran with it. They all sang together when they helped Dr. Clark and Thomas Whitfield. They learned a lot from Vanessa Bell Armstrong during the late '70s and the '80s.
Whoever was on that organ or in that band was a hot mess. I would've walked off too. Even Mattie was looking around the choir to the band stand like, "who in the world is playing over there? Where's my shoe?" LOL
Fareal... I was just thinking that. That mistake STOOD OUT SO MUCH that Dr. Clark probably felt like throwing a brick at him/her rather than her shoe.
And did you see her just walk away from the mic and left the choir hanging and Mr. Clean had to finish the song..... OK... now I know she is crazy... LOL.
Yea I did. I'm a musician... and we all mess up sometimes. It's human nature. But, If I was that musician... I wouldn't want to show my face for a while...
2:53-3:12 what a read...lol I woulda hate to of been the musician who messed the key change up or whatever happened...lol but she still killed it...lol
VBA was singing in MMC choir at a very young age leading songs on her LP. I would imagine the "GIRLS" were still practicing. Now you know, I think VBA is a bit older than they are.
Could Vanessa possibly be the "true" voice of Gospel music. I mean c'mon...whoe else was doing it like this back then, other than the Clarks, and if my info is correct (please correct me if it ain't) she was doing her thing a little while before them.
My thing is at least wait until you get in private-don't do that in the middle of the song and disrupting the anointing.
