How to convert Music to Ringtone (Iphone - MP3/AAC to ringtone FREE)

This did not work for me, so I watched: utube watch?v=BusWzASa1e4&feature=re­lated. This pointed out a further step - but I discovered 2 steps were needed! I have Vista H. Prem SP2, iPhone 3 V4.2.1

1.Go to iTunes/DEVICES/"your phone" on the "Tones" tab - check "Sync Tones" - my iphone began to Sync then BUT my ringtones STILL did not appear. Secondly - I clicked the "Sync" button (bottom RH of the "Tones" tab AND these new tones appeared under "Custom" ringtones :-)

Thanks for this. Also if you can't see a "ringtones" tab in itunes: "To show the ringtone library, go to “Preferences”. Under the “General” tab, you should see a “Show” section" = for me It's called "Tones" just check that and it will work.

@ZaySevenfold Then you have to sync tones specifically by clicking on the phone under device in the left hand column of itunes. then click Tones above. Then check the sync box. You may not have it set to sync tones.

Instead, when I check the song's properties, it says "MPEG-4 Audio File (.m4a)"

And I don't know how to change it..

@suzyy21 Hi, I had the same issue, in the video he changes the ".m4a" to m4r in itunes. But you can change it in the windows explorer, just click rename and change to m4r. It will come up with a message, click yes and then double click the file. It should then show up in the tones/ringtones in itunes. Hope this helps!!!!

IPHONE 4G/4GS! This works on my Mac but I suppose it will do the same on Windows. Follow the steps but when you create the file .m4r make a folder on the desktop called 'Ringtones' then copy the .m4r into the folder. Go back into itunes and add the folder (File > Add to Library). Also make sure you removed (but not deleted) the files you created originally otherwise it wont work. It automatically adds to your ringtones and ready to sync. Hope it helps those having problems!

If you are not finding your ringtone READ THIS !

Go to devices tab ( in your Computer itunes ) Select your iphone name ( the one that you set it in ) go to the RINGTONES tab, and fill ''Sync ringtones'' then click apply

The ringtones label is only created in itunes when you have imported a ringtone.

Follow all the steps as described, when you import the file to itunes (>>File>Add file to library)

the ringtones option will now appear in the menu as it the video!

@26candz I don't know if this helps or not, but make sure that you go to your itunes, highlight your iPhone from the left and you'll see a Summary of your phone, to the right of the Summary button on the top, it will show a Ringtone button. Click on that. By default, itunes has Sync Ringtones unchecked, which isnt covered in this tutorial. Just check on Sync Ringtone on and then sync your phone, it'll show up on your phone afterwards.

If you want custom mp3 as your ringtones you don't need to go through all this crap. This is all you need to do is download an app call ringtones maker in app store and read the instruction. Thats what I did and no need for that create acc shet.

1.) Make ringtone using ringtones maker app

2.) Open itunes click on your itunes account>apps>scroll down to file sharing click on ringtones>click on the mp3 file you want to save>once is save go open that file>ringtones>sync>setting<ri­ngtone<there
