  • Creepiest place I've ever been to

  • Moins impressionnant que les catacombes de Palerme, mais qu'en même....

  • 1:29 looks like a face sticking out

  • holy shit 0:05

  • Jesus christ!! The music start so loud and showing a skull, i almost piss my pant.

  • jesus wept

  • there are professional guides and most people go down as a group. It would be very dangerous to wander in there alone, but in a group with a guide, its probably about the same as going caving

  • @hazemyster well the maps are just assumptions, they believe its 300 ft long...they dont know for sure

  • I know quite a few people who have been down there. Im planning to go down there soon myself.

  • The music is ridiculously loud. No need to deafen your audience dick.

  • @stupiderror1111 I think you'll find your computer has a volume control for your speakers. Ha ha now everyone knows who's a dick :-)

  • @dortmundbrian its seriously really loud man

  • i would only go there with supervised help

  • They use the Catacombs of Paris in the book The 39 Clues: Maze of Bones. When Amy, Dan, and Nellie go to enter Nellie reads a sign above that is written in French. It read: Stop mortals! You are about to enter the empire of the dead! Of course, they went in anyway searching for what might be the clue.

  • aye is i am correct the sign says.. Stop you are about tho enter the realm of the death.

The place is breath taking.. I lived for one year near paris in a squat.. I have seen many parts of the catacombs... And to be honest.. not always with permission ^^

Ps whats the name of the song..

  • I've been there!!! That's very cool~

  • this music is creepy

  • great vid! thanks for sharing

  • ''Arrête! C'est ici l'empire de la mort''

Oooooh thats creepy I didnt kno a place like this could still exist

  • theres something very creepy about that

  • woooww a DRAMATIC entrance!

    and a dramatic SONG! LOL

  • There is a section open for tours everyone, but the rest of it is blocked off. The only entrances I know of, are from sewer grates and I think one entrance was by an aqueduct somewhere and another by a train yard.

They run hundreds of miles long intertwined, like a maze. And go hundreds of feet underground.

Some of the low low levels have collapsed, but most are intact. You won't survive if you go in there, you need a lot of equipment, food, and people.

There are some 'things' down as well

  • 450 miles of tunnel to be exact

  • this is going to hell right???

  • its really amazing. my favourite site i ever been

  • all the bodies were underground at one point, i watched on "scariest places on earth" that they were taken out to build parts of the city, the cadacombs is where the bodies were later left.

  • the people decided to do it once the

    cemetaries became overcrowded.

  • i wouldnt go down there for 1 billion dollars.

  • my hair is standing rigth up now gothdam !

  • damn i wanna go to those catacombs so bad! when i get the chance, im going to try and make it to the bottom, see how far down the catacombs really go lol ill video tape it :P btw 5/5 great video

  • They were moved there in the 19th century because the urban cemeteries were too full, causing illness amongst the population of paris. The cemeteries were emtpied and the remains of the dead were piled in the catacombs. The neat piles safe space and look tidier.

  • that is amazing...

  • No, its not haunted if you asking that.... its becuse there are more then 500 miles of uncharted or mapped tunnels and an unexperienced exlopere would get lost in minutes.

  • How do you know it's not? No one has been through all of it....

  • I went there last week and you can't get lost. You have to follow a set route and you can't choose where to go at all. Very well worth a look if you go to Paris.

  • maybe people who go down there never come out because it's like a maze of tunnel's, they follow one path and there there is like 3 other paths to take... then there is another 3 to take and another and another... then they decide to go back but they forget the path's they took...

  • they have a museum part of the catacombs.. but there are secret ways of getting in even though you arent able to get out the same ways after sometimes. and if the police catch you- you will get in serious trouble, lots of fines i know for a fact not sure about prison though.

  • why do they care so much?? nd is it worth the risk of getting caught to go down there??

  • i dont really know why they care, i just know that you'll get in trouble. i dont think i would go where it isnt on the tour, just because i would fear the tunnel i was in- could collapse.

  • Its the most haunted place in the world you know...Thats where they threw all the people who had the black plague some dead some alive, Thousands of people have gone down there and never returned...

  • i wonder if it still smells like de-comp down there lol

  • Not really, it smells a bit musty. But with over 1 million dead people down there... its not really suprising. They were already in skeleton form when they were put there, they didnt decompose down there. If you ever come to paris, it is really woth a visit. last time i went it was only about 6 euros to get in. Its a very beautiful place.

  • is this for real?

  • yeah it's for real... this is what they did with some of the bodies from the black death that they couldnt dispose of... this is what my professor told me... peace!

  • Wow...I didn't know that. All I knew was it USED to be a tourist attraction (not sure if it still is) and they rearranged all the bones and remains to make it look...I guess prettier.

  • hell yeah

  • I have to take this tour when I go to Paris this Spring. I can't wait to go there!!

  • the sign in the begining says: stop! here is the empire of the dead...am i right???

  • almost , it's the empire "of death" (de la mort)

  • these catacombs were once mines. the bones were added after cemeteries got overcrowded to the point where neighbors were suffering from disease. so the bodies were dug up and relocated there.

  • Can someone tell me a site that explains all the people lost there?

  • A catacomb is just a massive grave. Its nothing unexplainable. They were just place under there. Actaully Catacombs were famous around the age of the Black Plague.

  • Ive been here :) Great video! Not all the tunnels are open to the public though.

  • ive seen pictures and the video of the one in sicily, but ive never seen this one. being in over 400 hundered tunnels would be peaceful to be.

  • "arrete! c'est ici l'empire de la mort" coolest entrance sign ever!!

  • i got a picture when i went and i played with it on photoshop, it looks so fucking scary and awesome. can't wait to go back!

  • man i still have yet to go.

  • I've been into catacombs in England (most older citys have them), but not on the scale of the Paris ones....I find it somewhat comforting to be in a tunnel, cut off from the rest of the world....O.K, I'm strnage.

  • i just saw trailer for catacombs movie earlier today and since just searhcing everything to do with this! D=

why did they make the walls of skulls and bones?! its liek they took care making those walls D=

  • Well they had built the catacombs for all the dead that the plague caused. There were so many bodies that the city of France couldn't keep up with them all. All over streets dead bodies. So instead digging graves they went down under the city where they build the dead bodies.

Good thing Because the Franch resistance during world war 2 chilled down there.

  • THEY EMPTIED THE GRAVES OF SIX MILLION PEOPLE TO MAKE ROOM IN PARIS BECAUSE OF OVER CROWDING. THE WALL MADE OF FEMUR'S AND SKULL CROSSES IS ABOUT TWO BLOCKS LONG AND FIVE AND A HALF TO SIX FT TALL. i TELL YA ,THE PART THAT CREEPED ME OUT WHEN i WAS THERE. IS WHO COLLECTED THE BONES AND HOW DID THEY DO IT ALL WITH NO LIGHT BUT A TORCH OR CANDLE?. WHO WERE THEY SLAVES OR PRISONERS THAT MADE THIS WALL OFF DEATH AND CHRISTIAN MORATORIUM?

  • amazing just amazing, i could never go down there but just all the death and the bones and darkness, amazing. i imagin it would be like a drug like some crazy high but too intense for me. lol that first hit of the music just about made me hit the roof.

  • that music is powerful, it sounds as the dead have their own black force power of slavery, suffering and death for eternity by satan

  • you know.... this is all christians buried in the catacombs. well almost all

  • underground all of paris, there are many entrances and many are sealed off.

  • the catacombs of paris freak me out, not this part, but just the miles of narrow tunnel. expescially that video of some guy dropping his camera and running.

  • nice music

  • The entrance of this part of the catacombs is located at Denfert-Rocherau.

I've visited them three times, and will do it again! :-)

  • A vast majority of the bodies are plauge victims, war casualties, and the bodies of people who really DID get lost (suck as a hospital worker. died just a few yards away from an exit. Had keys to the hospital, thus he was identified when he was found years later.) There are also people going into ristricted sections, and even throwing parties. People also tend to smuggle bones out of there. Bodies have also ended up spilling into the basements of homes near the crypts.

  • its under all of paris i believe lol its massive not just a little playground hence people getting lost and dying down there

  • why the people died there? i want to know because it is very interesting!

  • and thats only a piece of the entire 6,000,000 people who died and was put in the catocombs

  • I see for firt time in the game nightmare creatures, and now for fist time the real catacombs, is amazing.greetins from argentina

  • GearwarWii ..I SAW IT TOO!!!

  • hmmm can anyone tell me who plays the songs and whats the name of it ? tnks

  • woah, that is freaky, but cool!

  • I`ve been down there...It is scary, really really scary....but also kind of peaceful actually!! everyone should take a trip to paris and check out the catacombs!!

  • I've always wanted to go down there but it was closed for renovation during my only visit to Paris.

  • Damn this shit wud be scary as fuk if u were down ther 4 real

  • in Portugal there is a building made of human bones...

  • I've seen this on Scariest Places on Earth! There was once a lost traveler down there! Some say that it's the Gates to Hell.

  • btw, Very nice clip!

  • they also put them there because there where too many in the ground and it smelt really bad so they put them in The Catacombs

  • in the 1700's when the plauge was around they ran out of places to put bodies and exhumed them discreetly from graveyards and dumped them down in "The Catacombs"

  • dang what are all those bones doin down there? it looks creepy with a capital C lmao but it looks creepy tho

  • I wish it wasn't off limits :-(

  • Yes, they dug up the bones of millions of Parisiens from all the cemeteries to make room for the city's expansion, and stored them in these catacombs, which occupy literally miles and miles of underground tunnels. It is an extraordinary place!

  • jesus christ that music... gotta love it.

  • thats a pretty good movie thing

  • when where this discovered? this is heresy!

  • music is perfect, really give me the creeps

  • what a morbid yet beautiful place... i'd like to see it some day. what is this piece of music called?

  • The music is called Wehe Khorazin, by the enigmatic German artist/group Popol Vu, otherwise known as Florian Fricke. It comes the soundtrack to the 1981(?) German film Fitzcarraldo(director: Werner Herzog, with Klaus Kinski).

However, I only used the first bars and looped this section to fill my picture edit. The original music changes after the intro bars.

  • thank you!

  • It is as if the dead pictured, are singing a song of death, longing for the daylight, and Life. What creepy music, watch this in the dark a 2:00 am, spooky.

  • It's pretty cool, the way the bones and skulls are arranged on the walls, but nonetheless creepy.

  • dios mio those catacombs thats like the evilist place on earth i want to live in those catacombs

  • Been there a few times.. quite a nice place. In a way it's very morbid how everything is so stacked up neatly, with skulls put to make figures and all.. heh. It's about a 20 minute walk with non-stop bones everywhere.. so it's quite a lot.

  • are they real bones? or ar they fake just fr the movie?

  • real :)

  • ooh k3wl i want to go there now such a pitty i like in australia and dont work

  • Total and completely real. At least, 2 millions bodies from ancient graves.

  • yea i reken that would be the best place to hav a holiday (sorry if any of my speeling is incorect)

  • iv been there! was an amazing night! best party ever! haha!

  • wow its creepy! i wanna go there someday!

  • any1 know what that last sign in that clip said? i dont understand french ^^,

  • "Stop! Through here is the empire of death"

is the sign at the start, which stands over the entrance to the catacombs. The sign at the end is the info saying that here are the remains of between 5 and 6 million Parisians which were transferred here between 1785 and 1860 from the Paris cemeteries, because the land was needed.

  • Thanks, thats kinda creepy. Imagine doing that job^^ moving all those corpses

  • u jerk!! U scared the living out of me at he beginning. I was pumping my volume all the way becaue I thought my sound died. Then *BOOM!* *SKULL* *WTF!!!*

  • I had the exact same experience, haha :p

  • I could never go down there, no way.

  • wow! *jaw hits floor*

  • Chilling to the core--well done.

  • Beautiful

  • nice camera work

  • Oh my goodness.

    ~xx
