  • June 16th? That's Bloomsday.

  • Ive experienced this too, in Europe with a foreign boy. I agree that those promises never work, no matter how much you wish that they would. You can always say 'let's stay in touch' etc but its just not the same. There's a magical atmosphere when something like that happens in a foreign city. Its a whole other universe, you cant relive it, it only happens once. I still think of that boy almost every day. We both live our own lives, but the beautiful memories will always stay no matter what.

  • I like how at the end they show all of the places the two have been during their night together. I enjoyed watching the whole movie. Thanks for uploading.

  • @paulafebbe Sometimes it happens. It happened to me

  • Probably the best ending in whole cinema story. And it's not an exaggeration.

  • I watched 'before sunset' and i hated it

  • no digital cameras, cellphones, texting, facebook... email and chat aren't even mentioned - amazing how things have changed in just a few years.

  • its so romantic..given a chance true love happens..there is so much to this movie..every scene has so much to say about love and emotions

  • I'M SPEECHLESS.

  • Thats so sad he shoulda proposed when they were drinking wine...Its funny how though the credits say Jesse-ethan Celine-julie the guys on bridge and dude on train.

  • This reminds me of one of my friend. I and this girl from Thailand promised each others that we would meet again when we turned 25 and we would travel to Japan together. We may change a lot but I hope we're still friend. I knew her during my exchange student's time and we had a very great year together, but we're now in two different countries.

  • Thank you for posting! It's so convenient to watch the film here. The other convenient version of it I have access to is in an old VHS copy down the street at a public library, which is a very cool copy.

  • Back in 2000, I did a Eurail trip through Europe. One night, without a hotel room, I sought refuge at one of Barcelona's railway stations where I met a girl. We hung out together for a few hours before we had to part ways. Unlike these guys, we exchanged home addresses. We ended up being together for four years. :)

  • @loltion congrats sounds great. saving money to find myself and euro girl in spring =P

  • I give props to Jesse for holding himself together so well towards the end. I would of probably broke down crying in front of her lol.

  • I know before sunset is the sequel of this and its set 9 yrs later but what about their 6mths promise?

  • @francescaarchie0226 there is a explanation in the sequel

  • WELL I MET A GUY THROUGH FACEBOOK ND WE HAD THIS SORT OF COMPATIBILTY I LIKE HIM HE TOO BUT I DONT HAVE THE SRENGTH TO BEAR THE PAIN GIVEN BY LOVE SO I LEFT TALKING TO HIM THOUGH HE SAID HE LOVE

  • Been there. Done that. No future.

  • Is exchanging phone numbers and adresses easier, lets say they not had mobiles then...?

  • This movie should be titled "The life before Facebook" ^^

Though, It´s a good movie: nice and simple

  • fantastic movie--so real

    mmmmmmmmmm

  • It's the cutest romantic movie i've ever seen. At the half of the film i became so sad, that it will end, but when i found out, there's another movie, i was so glad! Perfect couple!

  • Cool. Couple shots of "The Third Man" in that sequence

  • I met a guy on holiday and we had a perfect night. Lying on a four-poster beach bed in Mexico, waiting for the sunrise, talking and kissing all night. I haven't seen him since, and will in all likelyhood never see him again but it's something I always think about wherever I am and I get such a huge smile on my face every time I think of it. It didn't matter that it only lasted a night, because that one night was totally perfect. Made me believe in romance :)

  • @preternaturalpixie too bad you didn't have a baby to remember him by...that wd b Hilarious!!!

  • :´( And the second part?

  • im watching this in 2011 and i cant wait to watch for the1234567809834 time "before sunset"..imagine how tortured people fell in 1995 when this came out and didnt know how it would end...must have been agonizing...

  • This makes me sad. Why is separation needed all the time?

  • i so love the movie

it makes me feel the feeling of being loved

    great! awesome :D

  • People's wistful comments remembering their own experiences are making me tear up a bit over here...

  • I've had my version of Before Sunrise while backpacking in Europe.. I think we both implicitly knew that keeping in touch with each other (via email or facebook) would be too hard and just too damn depressing. I do still think about him all the time.. and will likely continue to have this "romantic projection" for who knows how long. THAT is the reality of travel romances. It breaks my heart but I wouldn't take it back. Not even for a second.

  • I don't even know to express how this movie makes me feel. There are so many great scenes and wonderful exchanges. As Jesse and Celine walk to the train you can see the panic and distress in their faces because they realize that the moment they dreaded had arrived. How they resolved it made it an open ended and hopeful story, and Celine's smile at the end closes the movie perfectly.

I knew a woman like this once and I loved her. She got away and it was my fault.

  • Had this a year ago. Great girl. Lived west coast, i, midwest.. Enjoyed one night walking the strees of a small city at 4 AM grabbing coffee, walking the park to see the sun. Ah but such is life- we talked a little but it was just one of those fleeting moments that I'll take with me. And to leave it at that, as that moment, is the beauty in itself you know?

  • I lived this. And it was and always be the most beautiful moment of my life. And it is and always will be the root of all my suffering. Because "6 months later" doesnt happen. ANd these moments, these fleeting moments are all we have.

  • one day and night like the one that these two have just shared are maybe worth a whole life time.

  • Ok I like the movie but I am not crazy about the ending

  • I love how the director put in shots of the places they had been...but during daytime. It just brings a new meaning, like everything is different, magical during the night.

  • @CowCowMeows I totally agree with youu :)

  • @CowCowMeows It has an even deeper meaning. Those empty places mean that we all be gone soon, all that we have is the time available to us now. All that matters is how we spend that time.

  • @FinkPloyd1000

My interpretation was that when you look at these places, they look ordinary, and the reason why they were memorable is hidden. Think about the places around you, and all the things that could have happened there, when you weren't there to look.

  • I have had my before sunrise, it's been 4 years now and I hear he is coming, coming across the world to where I live - I can only hope we have a before sunset too - but who knows what "real life" will bring

  • i love the ending of thismovie when they show all the locations they had visited together it's a sort of reminder that life goes on even when you're not there. I don't know to me it's beautiful.

  • Live this day as if it will be your last. This is it. All you have. Make it the best day of your year. The saddest words you can ever utter are, ''If I had my life to live over again. ''Take the baton, now. Run with it! This is your day!. Extend to each person, no matter how trivial the contact, all the care and kindness and understanding and love that you can muster, and do it with no thought of any reward. Your life will never be the same again.

  • Has anyone ever actually Lived this? If you have, you can understand where my tears are coming from.

1 year later doesn't always work out...

  • I LOVE THE ENDING TO THIS MOVIE. i love the whole movie so much but the ending is just perfect. the music and the screen shots of all the different places they went - so simple but powerful

  • as much as i wuld love to TRY to do this, i mean start convo with a total stranger.

imm scared they might turn out serial killers LOL .. i have trust issues

  • I think I would have gone crazy seeing this ending when the movie came out if there was not a sequel currently out that completes the story. I hate making up my own ending never knowing if they actually met up.

  • @slayer200128 Omg I feel the same exact way. And i mean, its just incredible how much i want to know, i need to know what happens because it feels all to real. Thankfully the sequel is out there, we can see more.

  • Very cute and hope-giving story indeed. But it doesnt happen like this. At least in my story it hadnt been a good memory when he went away. And he never wanted to see me again. And i havent asked anything but the news that he arrived back to his country. No word no message. I blamed myself, i was such stupid dumb girl !!! He wants to forget that i existed i guess...But i came to accept to fact that life is not suppose to be like the movies.

  • stupid! no phone #s , no emails! ?!!!!

  • Watched this today...

    Cried my eyes out.

  • I feel like a lucky bitch! I've had my moment. We still haven't reunited but I'd rather wait and see if we'll ever meet again. Wow! I need to see Before Sunset so that will probably predict how it would end :P

  • This would never happen nowadays...there´s always Facebook.

  • @paulafebbe I never use that to get connected with him either. He doesn't have an account, I do.

  • @paulafebbe oh yes it did .....to me

  • @paulafebbe haha true!

  • @paulafebbe ahahahaha you're totally right. Even if they haven't changed phone numbers, they would probably google each other names.

  • @paulafebbe I've had it - I have only just discovered this film and now I feel like the luckiest person in the world to have had this situation happen to me. It's a memory that I will always treasure.

  • @paulafebbe There's something really cold and depressing about facebook

  • @paulafebbe catfish

  • @paulafebbe actually, something like this happened to me when I was in bombay ;) I just saw this movie today for the first time and am thinking: "this is almost exactly what had happend to me" (minus the sexy time, unfortunately ;) )

  • Don't think I'll spend and be close to someone stranger in a day or night...too risky and even scary but this movie is romantic and sad.....but everything's possible lol

  • Do you think they meet again in 6 months time?

  • @FrostedPingu no i don't her grandma pass away and she need to attend the funeral. there is a second one in 10 year after name before sunset.

  • @FrostedPingu Watch "Before SUnset" it's the 2nd of this sequel. A great continuation too :)

  • Argh :S thats so painful

  • Love ths movie! So romantic!

  • did he stick it in her pooper?

  • @TeddyJooker butsecks?

  • You Guys...check out "Before Sunset"....par deux!

  • epic. iphones, email, skype etc would ruin this moment just as they've pointed out.

  • What? No SIX MONTHS LATER...?

Awesome movie, but left me wondering... Did they ever see each other again?

  • @sandratacic12 Check out...Before Sunset

  • @sandratacic12 Watch the sequel "Before Sunset"

  • Amazing movie :)

  • This movie was so wonderful and interesting in the same time. I had an experience similar to what happened in this movie, only difference was that it was my first experience with a guy and I was kind of shy. I am so embarrassed about it but it but in the same time I can't forget that day. I still have his number, but never called.:/

I'm watching the sequel now... Before sunset. I head it's good too! :D

  • @EuropeanDeity

call him now! it's not too late

  • Comment removed

  • well, in europe, im not afraid of rejection, im afraid of being sold...so many sick, twisted ways to make money now days.....its horrible.

i hear of girls all over europe being sold to sex chains...it is so sad.

  • I return to this movie over and over again. I wonder if Richard Linklater, Kim Krizan and their collaborators fully appreciate how much they gave us with this movie? If I were them I'd go to bed every night thinking, "Now *that* was a great piece of work." If any of you are reading this, thank you.

  • thank you so much for uploading!!! Love you!!!!

  • it s a kind of seredipity at the end if there are a any fate to make them together an other time

  • i looove this film so much! thank for the upload!!!

  • thx 4 the post! XD great movie! i didn't think I was going to like it @ first, but watching it really changed my mind.

  • She has such cute hands

  • this film is the best love test... if you think that in the end they will see each other again - you're a romantic... any other option in your mind marks you as - just plain rational...

    great movie :D

  • THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR POSTING! :)

  • LOL the old woman walking by the spot the drank the wine! Classic

  • Atleast not the typical Hollywood crap

  • good film. I watched this in the 90s, and recently watched the second one, Before Sunset. As many people have said, the second one is much better. More philosophical, it just said and did more. More grown-up too. This couple are in Waking Life, another Richard LInklater film. They disguss dreams again. Good scene, exclellent film. Waking Life. You deserve to experience that film!

  • My Fiance is a french girl, but we have been together for 5 years.

So not a similar story at all. :)

  • that goodbye was painful to watch

  • Lovely

  • For anyone who likes this movie, you've have to watch the sequel, "Before Sunset". It might be even better than the original.

  • This kind of compatibility is all I want to have. Their dialog...through the whole movie...I just want to have that... Actually maybe it would be enough for me just to know that there is someone with whom I could have this kind of relationship. Sometimes it's not important how long it lasts, it's more important that you had it once in your lifetime...

  • @mssingeroflove mate, me too. This movie ruined men for me! hahaha

  • Well i have been reject so many times that now i dont care anymore for that feal to be reject by sommeone,if i rly care about somme girl i will be so brave to aproch her that i wont care if she is the wrong persone of my life or not, i will just doin it ,never BE SCARE to TRY to get other half of your life!!!!!

  • loved the ending. the movie was perfect. what's nicer is there's a sequel :)

  • @itscaely what sequel? Is there a third movie that I'm not aware of?

  • I really want to experience something like this movie. I need more adventure in my life :)

  • @Summer86 yes so do i. There is someone i like very much. and i know there is something there. Just a feeling... But i dont know what to do.

Im way to shy to ask him somoene have any suggestions?????

  • the hell's up w/ the ending!!!!!!!!

  • This movie makes me kind of sad and bored with my own life

  • What a stupid frickin ending! I kept on looking for part 11 as the time drew close on the movie then the credits came up and I'm like U SERIOUS RIGHT NOW! (it was serious). Not a fan of the cliff hanger ya. The rest was good though I thourouly enjoyed it... INTILL THE FRIKIN' END. Anyhoodles life goes on.

  • @sarah1oszter it's not the end:

    check out "Before Sunset"

  • @TheXicof Sweet i see it in related movies! Thanx!

  • @sarah1oszter The other one is nice too, but this is much better..

    anyway enjoy it

  • @TheXicof I will! Sequals are never as good although in my opinion Lion King 2 came very close.

  • @sarah1oszter lol

  • The first time I saw it was my first week of college, they played it on campus for free in an old theater. I went by myself because my girlfriend of three years had class early. I left the theater with the best feeling in the world, and I decided to walk around the tall oak trees, on that breezy summer night in the old campus for a while. I just kept thinking how lucky I was to have my girl with me at a college far away from home. I've been with her for six years now. i love this movie.

  • he didnt even bang her, what a punk!

  • @koolever3 he did... no 9/10 asswipe

  • @yas666eer shit for real! must have been fixing a sandwich or something!

  • @koolever3 he did, twice.

  • the saddest part of the movie is definetly from 4:56 to 6:14

  • there is a sequel..."Before Sunset"

  • We are always connected when we stay centered in Life = in NOW..... when the energy flows, Life glows magically.... Love is trust.... we are here to Love.... it is nice to FEEL the stomach and solar plexus are alive when watching this beautiful video.... God is Love..... wauvvv....... you are the One and ONLY..... what is 2 years, 10 years, a thousand years in eternity? We have come far and NOW the time is right for making LOVE take over and show the way by creating the new path......

  • Love, light and Unity to the ONE I met some weeks ago... You're the ONE - we are ONE...

  • There is a girl that sits around the corner from me during lunch that looks just like the lead actress. I'm thinking I should meet her.

  • @Unenthusiasticly Do it and report back, stat!

    Good luck!

  • I hate to think that many stories like this have not happened and will not happen because many people including myself are to scared to start a conversation in fear that we might get rejected but the other person might think the same thing and they won't start the conversation either so the relationship wont happen

  • @edgarispistoff Very true what you're saying. Nowadays, in daily situations, when a man and a woman get fully attracted to each other, most commonly nothing happens, because each of them fears the "what if I get rejected, what if it turns bad". Thus nothing really happens, and that's very sad especially for situations where you know if you don't do anything in this very moment to get in contact (conversation) with the other person, you won't see him/her ever again in your life.

  • @edgarispistoff Today's society made this sort of feeling / approach get through our mind, in fact it's a bad thing, the good times are over (20-40 years ago) where a person could tell to another one what she feels about her/him. This is due to the emerging sophisticated lifestyle in our society and that gets us completely hypnotised. Very sad all this. Cheers

  • @edgarispistoff how stupid is it? why people dont talk?

  • @edgarispistoff a film like this tho shows the possibilities of what can happen if u ignore the fear of rejection and follow your instincts/desires...great film

  • @edgarispistoff oh yeah, I always think the same thing too, and it pisses me off :(

  • @edgarispistoff I know you've probably gotten a million replies to your deadon observation, but ain't it the truth bro. I just console myself with thinking 99% of those interactions would end in abject failure and embarrassment anyway. It's hard, but, just as long as you don't quit trying once in a while you know?

  • @edgarispistoff i beg to disagree coz it happened to me.well except the sex on the first night but we slept eventually.we managed to keep our communication ^_^ .that guy will forever be my 'before sunrise"

  • @edgarispistoff I've found its better be rejected in open honesty and move on, than to experience prolonged unrequited love.

Fear is a waste of energy. Relationships are seasonal, for life is seasonal. Suffering will happen, again and again. So Let's not pass by the opportunity to reach out!

  • @edgarispistoff Just jump!!!!!

  • @edgarispistoff i believe that is so true .....wish is not though

  • i expected this movie to be better base on the comments...but it was not as good as i thought it would/should be...the story developed too slow and the ending was to fast...but if you think it's good, that's your opinion....it was just okay, i expected more....don't bash me...it's not a hate comment...just my opinion...

  • thanks for posting! i loved the movie, had been waiting to see it for a while.

  • OK if this was a typical romance flick, it would go like this: they say their goodbyes, she gets on the train, he starts waking away, she yells "stop the train" and then runs after him and then they kiss passionately. Typical. That's why i love this film. It finally gives us a new ending, and none of that predictable cheesy bullshit. I seldom favor a romance film, but this is definitely on the favorites list along with eternal sunshine. :) thanks for uploading. That's all i have to say.

  • @karinakotelni

    so true!

  • @karinakotelni Have you seen Wristcutters: A Love Story :3 it kind of has that cheesy ending but not really.. It's just as good as eternal sunshine and this one =3

  • @Ninja563

Yeah I have seen it actually. But I still like Before Sunrise better

  • @karinakotelni Oh I agree I was just saying that that movie was a pretty good one like Before Sunrise.

  • The Ending's inspired by Antonioni. Noticed it straight away. Glad seaincarrie noticed too. I wasn't the only one.

  • Thanks to "unendlichemelodie" for. I've seen both parts several times now. It's great reading everybody's comments. So many great ideas and tidbits that have beautifully added to the film. Great meaningful communication with random strangers is possible!! We've all done it here! June 16 2010, we should watch the film, whereever you are. Or better yet pledge to reach out to someone, old or new for 5 minutes or 5 hours. Face to face or over the phone but really talk.

  • Thank you so much for posting. I've wanted to watch this movie for ages. It was very enjoyable: true I understand how people can complain about it being slow and very talky but I think that is what makes this movie so special. It all seems incredibly realistic. One can easily imagine this happening and I am sure many people have stories to tell like this. I think the final images of all the places they were are very very powerful. Every place has special meaning for someone

  • it's love these last shots of all the places they had been--just like the end of l'eclisse, but better because the characters were more likeable.

  • Ahhh, I'm sorry but if this part of the film doesn't move you even a teensy weensy bit... Then you officially have a heart of cold, black stone.

  • i was expecting that they will b seen together after 6 months...but but....anyway good movie

    <3

  • love the story thanks 4 uploading this

  • snif! :(

  • Oh what a wonderful film!! Brings back so much memories of the nineties.

  • it's so much more poignant watching this and realizing that all of those couples at the train station or the airport who cling to each other like it's the last time could truly possibly be seeing each other for the last time. Or at least most probably the last time that they'll feel as intensely passionate about the other.

  • Love the film, and Ethan & Julie. They look like they really belong together, at least they make you want them to be in real life.

  • I love this film - is it on Blu-ray?

  • Thanks for upload this movie!

  • I did and it was really good too, you need to be in the mood for listening only since there is a lot of talking, but yes is a good one too!

  • beautiful film

  • What an excellent movie!

  • Another interesting point about this movie is the fact that when they first meet she says she went to visit her grandma; and then on the following film to find out all that happened with her grandma, like on a greek or shakespeare tragedy.

  • So true how oblivion is bliss... I wish I never smoked super dank medical marijuana, but I did and nothing will ever compare. To that I guess snowcap is my french girl on a train to Vienna...

  • @goon2627 sorry what? sounds interesting could you explain? are you saying you will never feel as good as when you were hight so nothing compares?

  • no trust me kmco46, you don't... because it will haunt you to the point where you dont know what was real or just made up, pretty soon everyone you meet you'll just be comparing to the romanticized memories you have and it will never be enough.... if that makes any sense lol

  • I think not changing phone numbers, e-mail or any other contacts is a proof if they still want to come back after six months. People's thought always changes.

  • great movie, i wish something like that could happen to me!

  • noooooooooooo...no...change phone numbers , e-mail something...adresses , what's wrong with you... why are you so damn naive... well you can't say i didn't try...

  • does anyone know the name of the piece played when gets on the train?

  • Hey There, jllobet —I'm assuming you are referring to the piece that begins when he is still in the station, after she boards the train —the last piece of music —yes? If so, I believe that is " 'Andante' from Sonata for Viola da Gamba in G Minor" —You can find the soundtrack at amazon. When you do, click on #4 of the sound samples —cheers...

  • Utterly magical. This truly is life. Carpe Diem all! :)

  • First time seeing this film :). Thank you for the upload, and thanks to the person who said there's a following film. I wanted to see if they met up like they said they would! Apparently not (from the trailer I watched on imdb). *Goes to find and watch the follow-up*

  • A friend of mine put me onto this movie after i watched Lost in Translation. He felt that it was a poor rip off of Before Sunrise and adviced me to watch it. Like many people here I was left breathless and haunted by it for sometime afterward. Its true that my friend and I had this test on potential girlfriends where when we shoed them the Before Sunrise and they didnt get it, then they were likely not for keeps!!!

  • Likewise. I once thought that I'd like to date someone who understands what's good about this movie, or, I cannot be a girlfriend of someone who does not get it... there are so many fans of this movie, but I've not yet had any boyfriend who adores this movie so far!

  • This entire movie is just two people talking the entire time in real time; but for some reason it's just so damn interesting to watch...it's a simple love story
