  • did they ever graduate high school? because like he said they were just like the Jacksons; never had time for school or a childhood. in a way its kinda sad.

  • Was bobby pulling a David Ruffin?

  • Was Bobby really sick?

  • look at the gay ass processed hair lol

  • OMG I love ralph but he sounded like Mike Tyson for a sec.

  • @melissav6 Well....They both were from the east coast, soft spoken and from rough neighborhoods so I could see them sounding alike..

  • Ronnie Devoe Looked Like Todd Bridges Back Then

  • Damn is there any interview with New Edition back in 1983-1985 with Bobby in it on here? Please someone let me know!!

  • Ralph > Bobby

  • @BBoiiLite Ralph < Bobby

  • @TonyGonzo1988 then you woke up.

  • @BBoiiLite What does that mean?

  • Thanks for posting this interview. nothing but smiles and great memories!!!

  • Bobby Brown must have done something terrible for him not to make this appearance, but New Edition's management should have done a better job of covering it up. Michael Bivins starts laughing as he says "he's sick." There are several videos up of New Edition appearances from this period(1984/1985) and B.Brown is in some of them and absent from others. Videos like this REALLY show how much of a trouble-maker Bobby was and forecasted the chaos that stuck to him for about a 15-year period

  • This is when BET was really black entertainment. I don't even watch that station anymore.

  • @tknockerson preach

  • Can someone please explain to me that FINGER thing Ronnie is doing to Ralph?? They all do that to him in other interviews where the make the duck shape finger thing...what is that??

  • @Coolyfett LOOKS ALL TOGETHER even back then. started bbd, new edition, one f the founders of some other legendary groups. that finger meant lets double team the gal in the corner!

  • DAMN! I Wonder how many jars of gel they went through in a week.. Lawdy!

  • Wow they're 16 here?, The 16 year olds today look nearly like grown men. Boy have times changed.

  • My guess is this interview had to be from October to November 1984 being that Ronnie stated that he was almost 17 (he was born on November of 1967).

  • Bobby is sick,....You make it sound like a mental thing!

Man that is really funny a comment like that was made in 84. Wow thats irry as hell.

  • It's funny how Donny asked them if they had any money for movies now and they all were like "uhhh". They kept getting ripped off by their managers to the point they were a top group in debt. SAD

  • @jonb3917 That is very sad!!

  • "Candy Girl" was knocked out by "Beat It" on the R&B Charts (back then Black Singles Charts), in the late spring of 1983. Many people always state that black videos were nearly unavailable at that time, but New Edition released 4 from their first album, Candy Girl. If you look at all these videos by Prince, The Time, Shalamar, Gap Band, Diana Ross, Lakeside, Evelyn Champagne King, Rufus and Chaka Khan, Donna Summer, and The Whispers its far from true. They just were'nt on MTV at the time.

  • I remember this .

  • Amazing footage....this was obviously Bobby's beginning of his troubles with the group, with him missing this as well as Solid Gold.

  • @soultrainfans

His antics began on the 1984-85 tour. Tossin' the mic up in the air when they cut him off (too much "Mr Telephone Man").

  • @soulchildsacomin Yeah, I know. But, the audience was enjoying all 15 mins. of Mr. Telephone Man. LOL! What was funny was Ricky admitted that they'd be onstage not even thinking about the routine at time, but then again say NE was about structure...So, why was Bobby so wrong cuz he didn't extend Mr. Telephone Man all the time. I think as kids, they just got jealous @ the attention certain members were getting...Ralph knows. In the '96 Vibe interview, Ricky said it wasn't even messed up.

  • @NOLAsoulchild

People were jealous of Ralph, but no one was jealous of bad boy Bobby (Bobby felt he had to step it up further because of all the attention Ralph was gettin). Thats what happens when you're lead singer. When Home Again came out in 1996 (when the group were well into their late 20s), everyone had their own ego trips, not just Bobby. Fame is very pricey when you're young (look what happned to Musical Youth, Frankie Lymon, some of the Sylvers, and The Boys).

  • @soulchildsacomin

If you can, see if you can get New Edition's second interview with Donnie Simpson on Video Soul (the year was late 1985 to early 1986) - thats when they shot BET promotional videos for "With You All The Way" and "A Little Bit Of Love" especially when MCA (aka "Jumpshoot records) would only pay for "Count Me Out" and the boys barely had a dime to shell out to make more videos for their All For Love album.

  • @soulchildsacomin well Ralph was and still the lead singer....with the exception of Bobby, everybody in the group was jealous of that which happens when you are young...but they eventually learned as they matured and settled in their role

  • @soulchildsacomin yeah i know..but I'm saying the Bobby's troubles with the group might have started earlier than people think...Ralph even stated this before in an interview about him missing solid gold, and some other appearances was the beginning of his Bobby's demise.

  • @soultrainfans I believe that the problem wasn't really with them personally AT FIRST bc Bobby was solo from the very beginning & HE created New Edition before they were anything. And if anybody knows about Bobby in the early days, he was very street oriented in the way he dressed, danced & the music he listened to. He even said that Rick James was his inflence. So, I can imagine singing Popcorn Love & sequined suits started to get old. Not to mentioned getting dropped back off in the projects..

  • @NOLAsoulchild I agree with you Nola, have you seen the Tension interview from BET in 1990?

  • @NOLAsoulchild ..well if Bobby started the group and the bosses chose to make Ralph the front man then obviously tensions were from the beginning ..management should have learned from The Supremes. But to be honest about it ..they were ALL equally talented thats what made da shyt back in the day, even when they went their seperate ways

  • @soultrainfans And if you really think about it, Bobby was 100% correct with following his instincts bc he eventually became bigger than New Edition! Sold more records, sold out more bigger venues, won more awards, not to mention everything the group prevented him from doing onstage, they themselves eventually started doing within the group & as solo acts...So, I give Bobby B. probs for not accepting everything that WASN'T given to them early on...

  • @NOLAsoulchild well said ive thought the same thing many times.

  • to the author: your N.E. stuff's an invaluable contribution to youtubes library,, in my opinion.

Having so much fun watching !!!

  • Bobby sick! Make it seems like it was a mental thing. Hell it was. lol

    Thanks for posting.

  • Thank you for posting.

  • @ROBNYCNEHISTORIAN Rob, I'm still waiting on that "Living In a Dream" record...

  • @ROBNYCNEHISTORIAN Thanks for sharing your interviews and bringing many of these great New Edition experiences to the N.E. fans. Have a Happy New Year Rob. Take care.
