  • A very sexy rendition. The best indeed.

  • I hate her voice

  • @falloom46 you know what? That's actually fine. :) You don't have to like her voice at all, as I don't like a few legends's voices either. But there's no denying she can sing and sing excellently, as can they. :))))))))

  • Never heard of the Propellerheads or Ms. Bassey until several commercials featured this song. I love this song, the music, I love her voice. I have to do some research on Ms. Shirley Bassey and the Propellerheads. I believe I'm a fan.

  • She is hard to top. I LOVE HER!

  • Dame Shirley versus Diana Ross? No competition! The only place Diana would come out on top is where big hair is popular, Texas, New Jersey, and Queens NY. Not that Diana is bad, just no so good if a range is required. I mean it is like comparing Broadway's Evita, Patty Lupone to the silver screen Evita, Madonna. For Broadway they do not change the notes in the music for an actress that can't hit the note, they change the actress instead.

  • Shirley had some big ole hips! They're mesmerizing, and so is she.

  • @TwilightTsukasa What do you mean had?

  • Forever..the vocal temptress from Tiger bay...gotta love Shirley Bassey !

  • That is some great voice

  • The vocals are fantastic, the instruments are fantastic. Why is this song so unknown? And how hot is Shirley Bassey?

  • @waldogheadify I don't think it's that unknown. It came out back in 1997 and was used about 10 years ago in a Chrysler commercial. It was also used in a promo TBS put together to promote reruns of "Sex and the City" a few years back.

  • @markrabo are you sure it was a Chrysler commercial? i do remember it as a Jaguar advert.

  • @waldogheadify This song was everywhere in NYC every club the crowds would go crazy when this came on.

  • MM YES.

    CLASS.

  • When I first watched this I thought it was from like 1960's and I was like she is so fine and really young and it was like this so ahead of its time.

  • A timeless version of a timeless song

  • @camaleon9 I'm sorry this is a one and only, what are you talking about.

  • Amazing! Class and Style!

  • Everyone is Entiltled To Their Opinions, What We Should Be Looking At Is How UniqueEvery Artits Is For Their Talent And Who They Are

  • banger!!!

  • This would blow so many minds if it was really recorded in sixties :)

  • there is something about her thats so regal.hardship breeds a different kind of star....get used to it...She is the first...................

  • I saw this Genius some years ago at the Sydney Ent. Cent.

Not only was she a force to behold so was her Band, How I hope I may see her again on Australia's shores...... given her age, 74, perhaps that is not possible, however I will remember Dame Shirley's performance that night till the day I die.

  • i like this version, she has an amazing voice but i prefer the her more upbeat version of this song

  • jamala a ukrainian singer DID A GREAT COVER..check her out !

  • I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!I I love that sassy Shirley Bassey!!!

  • if there's such thing as "divaest" than it belongs to Shirley Bassey

  • MONDOMONSTER

  • You know she's a legend when she with a bunch of other talented musicians combines the new and the old so effortlessly, the result is magic.

  • @LalaofAr Just watched that ep of Being Human, and hearing this song on it made me have to listen to the whole thing without digging out my Propellerheads cd. I was glad to have it randomly pop up in a great show!

  • @PsychoDBoy50 what episode of being human uk or us?

  • Just heard this on the UK show 'Being Human'....epic use of music for a very cool scene, almost Tarnaino(sp?)-ish.

  • Love that husky rawr! female cat voice Shirley`s got!

  • Great voice! Great talent. Video set and direction stolen from Dick Lester.

  • Great voice!Great talent. Video set and direction stolen from Dick Lester.

  • There's something about those British chicks...

  • I used to live in the same house as a couple that looked after these guys at their record company. They gave me the CD when it first came out and I have been a huge fan for years. Fantastic!

  • A great voice and one hell of a beautiful women!

  • 12 people are just little bits of history repeating.

  • I love it when artists can remain timeless. Shirley Bassey has a beautiful and unique voice and she can kick butt whether she's singing a classic or a new revved up tune! GO GIRL!!

  • Take me now, you sexy growling she-bear.

  • How good is that? And how hot is she?

  • If history must repeat itself, may it always bring back Shirley Bassey.

    What can I say?

    It's different...

And it's the same, in a different way.

  • @hotstuffjetcars

    AMEN TO THAT!!!!

Her voice is like chocolate silk smothered in caramel velvet!

  • Easily one of histories greatest songs!

  • I'm amazed to see how long the devated goes one between the SoulSearcher and BlkShepherd about if Ross is No 1 or Bassey. such arguments almost always lead to personal insults, as it indeed happened. Is it not possible to come to agreement that both Diana and Shirley are euqally great in their own singing? Music, as a part of art, is so diverse and omnibus that, really, you can NEVER arive to a common opinion among ALL PEOPLE. and this is a great thing about the music! you can vary you taste!

  • She is incredible!!!

  • One of the top 10 songs ever written in the history of time. The end.

  • @Sweet92Sue AGREED!

  • Shirley Bassey and the Propellerheads are R E A L L Y C O O L !!

  • This is music.... dig it.

  • Did you catch Her recently on Graham Norton???? She Looked and Sounded Incredible!!! Viva La Bassey!!!

  • This is probably the coolest, funkiest song I've ever heard performed. They JAM!

  • ummm... what on earth HAPPENED in this thread????

  • @Rosannasfriend As you can see "Rossmania Clone' blkshepherd insist on glorifying Diana Ross trajectory and putting down Dame Shirley Bassey's achievements that truly earned her DIVA STATUS!

Diana has a mediocre voice that depended always on The Supremes, The Andantes or her Backup Singers De Jour to camouflage her weak notes, harmony and intonation!

Hair extension, wardrobe changes and eye blinking (stage props) do not substitute for a GOOD SET OF PIPES!

Dame Shirley sure got her PIPES!

  • I read that she had a love affair with Dusty Springfield. Two great talents!

  • @Jeannenyc57 That would have been a duet to match Barbara Streisand & Donna Summer no doubt!

  • @TWTR4EVER I totally agree!!! :-)

  • 11 persons think it's different

  • Go Shirl go show them what you can do !!!

  • Incredible!!!!

  • ma quanto è affascinante! "Arte"!!

  • Like WOW!! Hubba Hubba!

  • A true DIVA!

A DIVA is not about being obnoxious and wardrobe changes, is about having "the pipes" to back you up and Dame Shirley Bassey sure got her set of "pipes"!

    CLASS ACT ALL THE WAY!

  • @blkshepherd FYI Very proper from you to addressed ross without capital letters as anyone not affected and fanatical about mediocracy knows your lies. The DIVA title on ross behave is a scam! You got to have a voice to back that claim, ross is the SOUND OF CHRISTMAS PAST, LONG PAST!

Poor ross is "The Sound Of History Repeating" THE NO TALENT SOUND!

    CHEERIO!!!!!!

  • @blkshepherd Now, really? You turn out to be quite disturb! You make out lies and your believe your madness! Dame Shirley Bassey, that's a Royal Tittle, you know that don't you? The tittle ross has is self given, DIVA? Please, she wishes she had the voice to back that claim, what a scam? The rest of your petty insults are not even worth addressing as they are as laughable as your ignorance and immaturity!

  • @blkshepherd LOL...LOL...

The word is belittle not "title" you're truly ignorant and poorly educated aren't you chomp? Look it up in a dictionary, learn its meaning! You belittle people with your insane vulgarity! You're as common as sheet of toilet paper! The meaning of the words refinement and class will never be use in reference to anything pertaining you!

  • @blkshepherd "A LITTLE TITTLE TATTLE'" my dear JACKASS?

Your rantings as usual prove to all the readers wherever the pathetic screen name of "blkshepherd" is seen of your intolerance and defamatory ways!

It serves as a clear warning to all of your lack of credibility and poor taste in music. Diana Ross, now come on? That's like ingesting salmonella to loose weight, you should share your diet secret with Ross, she does need to loose some pounds the porker! "STOP IN THE NAME OF GOD"

  • @SoulSearcher4U You weren't kidding? This jackass blkshepherd now has lost it! To even mention Dame Shirley Bassey in the same breath as Diane, he's truly delusional, blasphemy! I'm glad, here people know talent, its not like trying to reason with the Rossmania Clones that persist in validating Diane's mediocracy! Anyone that has an ear for music can distinguish when a singer hits their notes, is on pitch and in harmony, regardless of age. They're looking at hair and wardrobe? Affected!

  • @TWTR4EVER I speak the truth! I didn't took your warning, I never suspected this character was so unstable, there's another, a bit more civilized a Paul51 but still, it's like they been brainwashed.

Don't they have a sense of hearing? All you need is listen to Diana Ross live videos trampling through her songs, uptempo so she doesn't have to hit any notes, the ones she most, she butchers, no harmony, all she does is barely maintain rhythm! I love The Supremes & Diana, but I'm realistic!

  • @SoulSearcher4U Sorry to tell you, go around The 1970's Supremes, any of them, Mary Wilson, Cindy Birdsong, Jean Terrell, Lynda Laurence, Scherrie Payne, Susaye Green, if there's a post from "blkshepherd" is a negative rant mentioning how superior Diane Ross is! We know how that adulterer got to the top, the pants of Motown boss Berry Gordy, he gave her all the favoritism to put her upfront, unchallenged and bought her superstardom! Florence Ballard is dead, he verbally murders her in You Tube!

  • @SoulSearcher4U Blkshepherd may not be classy, but at least they're not an arrogant, self-righteous wretch who feels the need to constantly repeat themselves about how superior they are. I'll take unrefined before overbearingly pompous any day.

  • @Ecci No doubt we all make our choices according to levels of intelligence and intellect.

By your own account if you feel unrefined as blkshepherd is your cup of tea, have two cups but don't confuse well informed and intellectually capable with overbearingly pompous, knowledge & education is power the other is pure ignorance!

  • @SoulSearcher4U Well informed and intellectually capable? I suppose that's why the comment I replied to is a segue with the sole purpose of insulting a person who brought up a legitimate point. You misspelled the word "title" not once, but twice, and then had the gall to bring up a word that hadn't been mentioned before, claiming your opponent was simply too illiterate to tell the difference.

You may want to work on your own reading comprehension skills before insulting those of others.

  • @Ecci Yes, well informed and intellectually capable! You don't suppose, you assume and only ASSES assume!

Yes I have the gall and yes both you and blkshepherd borderline the illiterate!

I need no advice much less lessons from you who roam in the gutter with blkshepherd!

  • @Ecci Guilty by association!

  • @blkshepherd The fact that Dame Shirley Bassey has a superior voice and range that Diana Ross is not open for discussion, it's a fact, any accredited music critic will certify to that! Are you bipolar? You have serious issues! Besides pointing out the poor stage of Diana Ross voice and performing abilities I've not resourced to vulgarities and immature childish rantings, please refrain yourself, I'm doing it for your own good, anyone reading would be disgusted at your behavior, common & vulgar!

  • @blkshepherd Now, this is a very sad statement coming from a very sad individual , "I don't talk to drag queens" or calling people "tranny's" ? To belittle someone for their sexual orientation when you are a poorly educated minority twice, of color and a homosexual, you're too sad for words! Here and everywhere those who know music and know talent need no convincing, the choice it's clear THE VOICE, DAME SHIRLEY BASSEY!

  • @SoulSearcher4U - well, superior range is a fact. superior voice is subjective. A lot of technically skilled singers are unconvincing, such as Whitney Houston or Mariah Carey, while singers like Bob Dylan and Lou Reed, I generally believe what they're saying and feel genuine emotion, and that is the measure of 'voice' to me. It's like a music teacher of mine who said that songs with many chords were always superior to two-chord songs. That's simply false, or at least not The Truth.

  • @SoulSearcher4U To SoulSearcher....I absolutely agree. Shirley Bassey has incredible range and depth to her voice. She sings with more intensity and feeling as she has aged. Absolutely class all the way. Ok, there are those who aren't fans, however, a person who has an ear for fine vocal range would agree that Shirley Bassey's voice is perfection.

  • @judyrusso I have to agree we're on the same page!

    Dame Shirley Bassey RULES!

  • i don't see or hear anyone that can match 'that voice'...

  • THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!

Classy, a true vocal performance artist!

  • TOP AND BEST!!!

  • absolute class

  • Classey Bassey!!!

quick bit Bassey lost voice after daughter died (suicide at a young age) -went on stage to sing goldfinger and couldn't make a sound-went to major diva voice teacher and came back f***** stronger than evaaaaaahhhh! have the propheads done anything after this cd.?

  • @emapeal1 I think they quit making music after "Decksandrumsandrockandroll" and some single extended plays. Kind of sad.

  • The song is great, but the video itself is very cool. I love the idea of a 60s TV show getting turned on to this music, so that the crew itself can't help but dancing.

  • Re: "What can I say?"

    Seventy is the New 40.

    Old School Rules.

  • There is no voice quite like Shirley's. I would love to see her in concert here in San Diego. I recall she was here a few years ago, but I sadly missed it. Let's get this piece of history to repeat... :) Please?

    Sister Ida @}--

  • Hmmm...there's a 60 year old that I'd nail!

  • OMG!! What a voice momma!

  • ME encanta esta cancion, desde la primera vez que la escuche!!! Me hipnotizo!!!!!

  • just got chills listening to her! She's fantastic

  • If this was recorded in 1997, she was 60 when she sang this. And she can still sing circles around the generic, no-talent Barbie dolls that the record companies keep throwing at us.

  • This song just has it all. Pure genius!

  • the perfec song to robe a bank and get away with it hahaha, dammm what a beautiful eyes!

  • Now we know why she is a Dame.

    Love the Bassey.

  • love her so much and she is welsh
