My guess is televisions were far too expensive for the bulk of the public to afford, but you could go to a television parlour that was kind of like todays sports bar and watch tv for a smal fee or watch while you purchased beverages or food? Interesting to see footage from the documentary "Television Under The Swastika". The period from which this footage dates, 1935 - 1944, the film used was 17.5 mm width (split 35mm) which was used for "intermediate film" transmission on a 180-line picture format. The film (with optical soundtrack) was run through a fast processing tank and then scanned in a telecine machine while still wet - remarkable achievement. The TV programs were mostlly intended for viewing in communal "viewing parlours".

The range was limited to about Paris and they broadcasted mostly films and musical programs.
There were only abourt 60 Tv receivers and they were placed in military hospitals and in the offices of high ranking German officers.

I'm sure some of it is real but the man talking about the orchestra and 'concert camps' is clearly making fun of Nazi eugenics and hinting at the existence of concentration camps which is something the government would often deny. It would be highly unlikely that someone on state controlled Nazi television would say those things.

Benjamin, Alan is right about it being all 'real'. However although Nipkow was the father of German TV technology, this wasn't really 'his' station, he was just an honorary head. It was Goebbels who embraced Nipkow's technology to use as a propaganda tool. He was the real driving force behind the original German television council, and the man who shaped the broadcasts. Reality can sometimes be so tragi-comic that it defies parody. Have you ever watched 'Fox News'?

Cable television was invented essentially as a propoganda tool in Nazi Germany. It wasn't piped into peoples houses but you could view it in television parlours (essentially beer cellars).
It is, of course, preserved as a telecine film rather than on videotape, but I'm afraid you're otherwise mistaken.

i don't know....something about this footage looks "faked." it could have been faked a long time ago. supposedly it's from the thirties, but WHEN in the thirties? the reference to the SA would imply that this footage was from the EARLY thirties. (the SA had been "disgraced" and marginalized by the late thirties.) yet the images appear to be too clear and sick for early thirties television. that's one of the reasons i find this suspect.

The rat bastard huns essentially STOLE their TV technology from Farnsworth who had granted them a license to use elements of his system.
When he came to Germany in the late thirties to collect royalties,he was told to f**k off basically and returned home with nothing.
The camera shown after the swastika test pattern is basically a Farnsworth unit of the time. German TV images previously would only show on other European systens at a ninety degree angle, or sideways on the screen.

Many of their ideas were not that much diffrent from other countries in the world at the time, genetic superiority for exsample. But in their engineering and science they were brilliant. Einstein for example. However they did have some serious short-comings with tactical communication flow in combat, German solders would not act without orders from the upper command, while American troops for exsample would improvise on the spot.
